The narrative revolves around a girl facing a challenging year, dealing with personal loss, academic struggles, and bullying. Joining a poetry club at school becomes a turning point in her life, leading to unexpected twists. The book is filled with suspense, and a major revelation at the end left me with lingering questions.
While I was captivated by the storyline, a few grammatical errors caught my attention, and certain details, like the synchronized lunch breaks for all students, seemed at odds with my high school experience. Despite these minor issues, the book is undeniably compelling.
In my rating system, a 5-star review signifies a flawless, perfect book. Due to the observed imperfections, I'm giving "The Teacher" a 4.5-star rating. Nonetheless, it's a gripping read that left my mind spinning at various points. I'm considering purchasing the book upon its release, as it's well worth exploring. Keep in mind that McFadden's expertise in thrillers is evident in this novel. There is a note of caution regarding teacher-student relationships, so readers sensitive to this theme may want to approach with discretion. Overall, it's a thrilling experience that I recommend for those who can appreciate the genre.
I flew through this book! At no point was it slow. It kept me engaged and wanting to know what was going to happen. I will say two things about it: First, it's listed as a thriller, but a majority of the action and thrills take place in the last 20% of the book. Second, read the trigger warnings. I can see how this book can be a bit triggering for some. Just do your research.
Overall, I give this book four stars. I was a bit turned off towards the end when we found out the age of one of the female students. The "final twist" was a little bit of a twist, but still a little unsettling.
Thank you to NetGalley, Poisoned Pen Press, Mandy Chahal, and Freida McFadden for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review. Get your copy of The Teacher on February 6th!
Frieda never disappoints with her books. This one had me wanting to grab addie and tell her to stop its not healthy and just hug her, the ending had my Jaw to the floor was not expecting that outcome at all.
WOW! That word just doesn't seem to convey the emotional rollercoaster that this book had me on. I'm still reeling a little from it. The book was well paced. Characters were relatable and well developed. Frieda has done it again!! I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for her next release!
Absolutely loved The Teacher! From start to finish it had me hooked and the last epilogue chapter had me mind blown, shocked, surprised! This book might be Freida McFadden’s best one yet! Definitely recommend and totally a 5 star rating! Thank You, NetGalley for choosing me to be one of the lucky early readers for this great book!
This book is amazing. Now I usually can see the ending way before I get there, but Freida McFadden definitely out did herself this time. What you think is a typical teacher student plot is not what this is. You will experience tons of emotions and in for a real roller coaster ride. Hang tight though because it is definitely worth it.
Freida, Freida, Freida! What are you doing to me 🤯 Twists right on down to the last page,
I’m goi g to start by saying the blurb on the back cover does not do the plot justice, it’s SO much more intriguing than that. My take, school scandal rumor, is it true? The girl at the center of the scandal returns the next year and everyone (including the staff) treats her like crap, but is it her fault? Does she deserve the hate? There are 2 teachers at the school who are married and have this student in their class and each see a different side to her. The book is written in 3 parts and in 3 perspectives overall; Addie (student), Nate (husband/English teacher) and Eve (wife/math teacher). What you don’t know going in is that the marriage is on the rocks, and neither are being honest with the other. I don’t want to give anything away, no spoilers here. But I will say you have 4 storylines intertwined and combining … what a freaking ride. Really enjoyed this fast paced and twisty tale.
Wow, where to begin on this book… Freida McFadden has done it again. Just when I thought she could not top the last book she’s written, was I ever wrong!! This one grabbed me from the very first page and did not let go. The characters in the book are very well developed and you will have many angry moments with all of them!! There are many twists and turns just when you think you figured it out, you’re completely wrong!! This is a great who done it from the first page keeping you guessing … be prepared to be angry and yelling at the characters!
Thank you NetGalley, Mandy Chahal Poisoned Pen Press for allowing me to read this terrific book.
Loved this book! Quick and easy read with a good plot and just the right amount of characters. I did not want to put this book down. Of course it had a shocking twist at the end…classic Freida style!!!!
A student, Addie, is having a horrible year. She is being bullied by the most popular girls and others because of an incident that happened last year. A married couple who are teachers in the same school also get caught up in Addie's plight, and it's not all rainbows and unicorns. I flew through this book and was waiting for the crazy twist. There was definitely a twist, but it was a bit predictable, which is unlike Freida. However, she leaves us literally on the last page with another crazy twist which I did not see coming, making me think, "ah, there's Freida"!
Freida never fails me, I can always count on a fun read, great twists and an enjoyable experience. I understand some people didn’t like the lack of trigger warning in this book but if you’re someone who is easily triggered, thrillers are filled with them so be aware of that before reading. I loved this one, not one of my favorites but it was a lot of fun!
Absolutely loved this fast paced psychological thriller….i devoured it over a night as I couldn’t put it down. Well paced and clever plotting with a twist that I did not see coming!!
I keep rocking between a 3.5/4… so I will stick with the 4. I did enjoy this one… was it my most favorable book from her, probably not? Did I get anything done while this book held my brain captive, absolutely not!? Will I always read every Freida book that comes out, ABSOLUTELY right!?
Overall, The Teacher did suck me in from the prologue. However, this time all of the characters, in my opinion, were not likable. They were all secretly manipulative, naive and just annoyed me, but that’s what was needed to make this story unfold the way that it did. So it does fit and piece this work of art together beautifully. They just were not characters that could be adored.
The book opens with a letter from Freida, if you are triggered by adult / student relationships… please take the time to read it, the trigger warning is very much there. Also, this is very real life and as much as people do not want to admit it, it’s happening ALOT more than you’d like to believe. So props on bringing a real, raw and maybe controversial topic so boldly to light. 👏
The reason my star rating isn’t higher or that this wasn’t one of my favorites is because, I felt there was an important detail that will leave many readers wondering or wanting to know more about... or maybe I am just OCD. This bit of the story is brought up quite often but never explained in detail and I just wished it would have been explained throughly. Especially for people with minds like myself.
The other reason for the between 3.5/4 stars is because some of the book seemed more juvenile and catty, than it necessarily needed to be. Yes, the high school drama needed to be there but I didn’t necessarily think it needed as much focus as what we received.
I actually FOR ONCE, predicted most of the outcome of this story, expect the epilogue.
Man, the epilogue blows you out of the water and that piece of unexpected craziness, deserves five stars in itself. Holy moly!! Nobody will see that coming or even have a slight inkling of it. Just wow!
If you are Freida reader, READ it! It is good, it is raw and is a unique story of things and situations that can happen in this wackado world.
I am thrilled that I did read it and I am once again honored to receive an ARC, before the release.
Thank you Freida for your talent and the love you have for writing and your readers. Thank you Poisoned Pen Press, Mandy and NETGALLEY for the ARC in exchange for my honest feedback. I cannot wait to see what others think!!
I LOVED this book. The multiple POV’s kept me enveloped in the story. Once the twists began, they only got crazier and I was completely on the edge of my seat. I finished this book in two sittings and was sad when it was over! Great job Freida!
Wow, did not see that coming. I binged read this book. I haven’t read a book in one seating for quite a while. Some things left me speechless. Really anything descriptive would potentially be a spoiler (imo). Another knock out of the park for Freida McFadden.
if you want a book you will not be able to predict the ending then this is the book for you! i was absolutely SHOOK by the last chapter and the epilogue OMFG. this book was sooooo good!! i swear Freida NEVER MISSES.
This book literally blew my mind! I loved the way it jumped between viewpoints and how the story developed. It was a fast paced, can't put it down, twisted thriller. Freida has done it again! I can't recommend this book enough. I will be telling all my friends and my social media account followers to get this book!
The Teacher by Freida McFadden releases on February 6!
Before I share my thoughts, I just want to say that if you have triggers make sure to know what this book is about before going into it. It definitely covers some sensitive and heavy topics that some prefer not to read about, BUT the synopsis does mention those topics.
🍎REVIEW🍎
I knew I was going to read The Teacher this weekend, but I didn’t expect to finish it in a day! This book hooked me from the prologue, the first line even, and didn’t let go. Freida writes her twists in a way that it’s hard to know what comes next and although I can predict some of the twist, I never get it completely right. The story was entertaining and I definitely experienced a range of feelings toward all the characters.
This one was a solid 4 star read for me. I enjoyed it more than The Coworker, but not as much as some of Freida’s other work.
Thank you to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the opportunity to review an eARC of this title.
Frieda McFadden does it again! I was so excited when I got picked by NetGalley to read the book early.
The book follows Eve and Addie. Eve, who on the outside, has a good life as a math teacher, and a good husband who also works at the high school teaching English. Then there is Addie, who was part of a scandal at the school last year. She lies, cheats, and hurts people. She can’t really be trusted. Deny everything is what she always tells herself.
There are so many twists and turns in this book that you will never see coming, especially at the end. This is a must read Freida book!!
I was able to read an advanced copy of The Teacher through NetGalley. I will have to say that this is probably my favorite Freida book so far. The epilogue...WOW!!!! As always, I didn't see that coming...
