Frieda McFadden always gets me out of a reading slump. Her books are fast paced, interesting, and always keep me guessing - The Teacher is all of these things. I finished it in less than 24 hours because it was just that good. There were some parts that made me uncomfortable (trigger warnings for sa). It truly would have been a 5 star read for me had it not been for the epilogue - I was SO disappointed with that epilogue. Other than that, it was a great read!

At this point, I have read the majority of Frieda’s books, and as i’m less shocked and thrilled each time, it leads me to wonder if it’s the books themselves, or myself, as the reader, who is getting used to the authors quirks and stylistic choices. For this book, it was a bit of both. This being that I guessed the main plot twist, but only because I know how Frieda writes and how she chooses to dictate character movements. I found that I was addicted to the book, racing to finish to find out the plot twist, just to be left unsatisfied. Not to say this wasn’t an enjoyable read, however, with these books, I am always looking for a quick read filled with shock and suspense, and didn’t feel it with this one. This also felt uncomfortable to read, just because of some of the content matter, although not graphic, it felt disturbing to read about sexual discourse between a child and a teacher, when this book is categorized as a thriller. This isn’t the authors direct fault, however some trigger warnings or info at the end of the book to give information on how this can be solved or equipped for in real life would maybe be better. I have no real complaints for this book, other than it just fell flat.

When a student-teacher affair rocks the school, what is the fallout? Did it really happen? What about the student who is still in the school? What happens to the school in the aftermath? Will the secrets eventually come out?

The gasp I gusped at the twist I never saw coming! Freida McFadden is a master at writing engaging bingeable thrillers and this one might be the best yet. The main characters each have major flaws and interests that make them feel fully dimensional. I found myself both loathing and rooting for some characters while they made decisions. Nothing is quite as it seems in this story set in a high school which made it fun to guess how things would turn out. I really loved the multiple point of views we get to experience as a reader as well. There wasn't a single character I was not interested in hearing more from as the story developed. There is part of the storyline that made me uncomfortable to read as a mom of two girls (Trigger warning: about grooming,) but I tried to focus on figuring out who was murdered, how, and why instead. With multiple twists and an ending that is challenging to predict, this is definitely a page turner that will help anyone get out of a reading slump if they find themselves in one.

Thank you so much Poisoned Pen Press and NetGalley for this advanced reader's copy!!

The teacher review

Per usual with a Frieda McFadden book I gobbled this one up!! It was so fast paced and filled with unlikeable characters I had no idea where this book was going or what going to happen next!

While a lot of stuff in this book made me feel icky I was not expecting things to end the way they did and for me that’s a must in a thriller book! And what a shocking ending twist I certainly didn’t see coming!

If you want a thriller you can’t put down and just have to know what happens next, this is the one for you!!

Thank you to NetGalley for this e arc and a chance to read this book! It’s available February 6th!

As usual, Freida McFadden’s thrillers are so captivating right from the start, and The Teacher is no different. From page 1 to the end, there are twists and characters that you love to hate. I always recommend her books to those who like thrillers and this one is easily one of my favorites by her.

The Teacher had such a strong start and kept me hooked throughout the whole book. It was such a fast read for me, I just kept wanting to read this book any chance I got. Overall it was a great book, most of the twists I did expect but the final twist did have me surprised. I know I can always count on Freida to give us a good twist ending.

This was not my first Freida book, so I had already high hopes for this book that I would enjoy it and I am so glad it delivered. I will definitely continue to read Freida's books.

Thank you NetGalley, Poisoned Pen Press, Mandy and Freida for this advance copy.

So, I finally read a Freida McFadden book and all I can say is shame on me for waiting so long. The Teacher exceeded my expectations in the best way possible.

A fast paced, dark and addictive psychological thriller, I found it hard to put this one down. Filled with unreliable narrators, everyone is keeping secrets which leads to twists and turns galore. I am hard to surprise, and while I did guess one of the big twists, there were others I never saw coming. Parts of it were implausible but I didn’t care because I was having so much fun trying to solve the intricate puzzle McFadden had created.

The subject matter here is tough and probably not for everyone, but I credit McFadden’s skill that she was able to pull off this suspenseful tale that centers around sexual abuse, bullying and stalking and still make it highly enjoyable. So be careful before you go into this one. But if you want a quick and compelling read, pick it up immediately.

I did a tandem read and both read the physical book and listened to the audiobook and they were both hard to stop reading. Thank you to @netgalley @poisonedpenpress for arcs of this novel.

Thank you very much for this arc read! I love Freida.

Overall I gave this a 3.75.
I hold very high standards due to The Housemaid being my first read by Freida.

I liked the multiple pov. It was unusual and strange for me at first because this was totally different than her normal book. I enjoyed it. It was close to a 4 star for me.

I did not see J coming at all! That part shocked me. But I predicted several other key points which brought me down a little from a 4.

I can't wait for your readers to devour this book just like I did.

Frieda McFadden has once again proven her mastery with “The Teacher”! As the sixth McFadden book I’ve read, it stands out as a favorite, delivering suspense and engagement that kept me glued to the pages until the early hours of the morning.

The dual perspective, shifting between teacher and student, adds a layer of depth that enhances the narrative. Understanding both points of view enriches the storytelling and keeps readers guessing at every turn.

Prepare for several unexpected twists throughout the story, culminating in an ending that will leave you reeling. I devoured this book in one sitting, unable to tear myself away until the final page.

If you’re looking for a gripping read that will keep you on the edge of your seat, “The Teacher” is a must-read. Mark your calendars for February 6th and head to your local bookstore – you won’t want to miss this thrilling tale. Happy reading!

I went through this book in one day! That's just how good it was! Every moment I had free to read, I did. This is the first book I have read from this author, and I loved it. I was immediately drawn in and wanted to know what would happen next. The writing was clear, riveting, and had me turning page after page. I definitely want to read more of this author’s books. I seriously thought I knew what would happen next, but I was surprised at each turn. This is the type of suspense books where you are totally encompassed. I was biting my nails throughout the book. A huge round of applause and encore! This book should definitely be your next read! You will not regret it.

Another McFadden page turner. The majority of the story bounces between two characters. Eva, a shoe-loving math teacher at a high school…and Addie, a junior at the same high school with a checkered past. It was a little bit of a slow start, and then it started to get a little cringy, and you could easily guess what was going to happen. BUT, like usual , McFadden starts throwing curveballs and ends it with one last twist, that I guarantee no one will see coming! An annoyance, way to read thriller!

In "The Teacher" by Frieda McFadden, the narrative unfolds with a dual-person perspective, introducing readers to Eve, a high school math teacher, and Addie, a troubled student with a questionable past. Frieda's signature twists are interwoven into a plot that carries a suspenseful edge.

**Plot (4/5):** The narrative, portrayed through dual perspectives, reveals secrets and delivers twists in a plot that earns a solid 4/5. While engaging, the story's trigger factors made me extremely uncomfortable (as probably intended).

**Characters (3/5):** Realistic yet challenging to relate to due to differing life situations, the characters effectively fulfill their roles within the story. The ongoing scenario in the book added to the disturbance, affecting personal engagement. A rating of 3/5 reflects this mixed experience.

**Writing (4.5/5):** Frieda McFadden's writing stands out with a well-paced, well-edited narrative that doesn't miss a beat. Earning a 4.5/5, the writing contributes significantly to the overall quality of the book.

**Engagement (5/5):** From the beginning, "The Teacher" had me hooked, compelling me to finish it in a day. The fast-paced narrative and intriguing plot elements maintained a high level of engagement, earning a perfect 5/5.

**Entertainment (5/5):** Despite not being a favorite among Frieda McFadden's works, "The Teacher" remains highly entertaining, earning a solid 5/5. It may not reach the pinnacle, but it avoids hitting the bottom, providing an enjoyable reading experience.

**Overall Rating: 4.3/5**

In conclusion, "The Teacher" is a riveting exploration of secrets and suspense, enriched by Frieda McFadden's compelling writing. While the characters may not strike a chord due to personal differences, the plot, engagement, and overall entertainment make it a worthwhile read. I would give it a PG-13 rating and recommend that the reader check their trigger warnings before reading.

Thank you to Poisoned Pen Press/Sourcebooks and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this book!

This was a definitely a page turner! McFadden's writing is so digestible and the perfect cure for a reading slump, as evidenced here in her latest title. I don't want to give too much context as I think The Teacher is best enjoyed when going in blind, but it's essentially a psychological thriller following a student and a teacher at the same high school... and that's really all you need to know!

The first half of the book is a bit on the slower side - it still reads super quick, but takes its time setting up our main players and their dynamics. But once things get rolling, they don't stop! I will say not many of the plot twists were exceptionally shocking and I had guessed most of them quite early on, but THE EPILOGUE KINDA GOT ME...

I enjoyed the 2 main leads for the most part, although Addie could be a bit frustrating with her naivety - even for a 16 year old, sometimes I couldn't quite buy into her blind ignorance in some situations. I did feel for her though! And Eve was super compelling to read about, as well. Overall, not a life changing read, but I definitely recommend if you want a fun, fast-paced thriller or a bingeable palette cleanser between heavier reads.

One of the absolute best Frieda McFadden books I have ever read. Don’t get me wrong I love them all but one particular twist at the end of this one won over the number one spot for Frieda McFadden. You have to read this book 5 stars all day ever day!!!!
