Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for providing an advance copy in exchange for honest feedback.
Nate and Eve are a young married couple who teach at the same Massachusetts high school. Nate is the charming, handsome English teacher; Eve is Mrs. Bennett, the math teacher who is obsessed with buying expensive shoes. Much of the novel involves teachers and students threatening to report each other to the principal for bad behavior, but the novel does have a good plot twist for readers who are on alert for the bread crumb trail author Freida McFadden weaves into the plot. The beginning of the story will have readers wondering how educators can make such bad choices, but McFadden has the skill to build the plot to keep readers wanting to know how the story ends.
This was a fantastic read! As usual with McFadden books, there's some plot holes! But her books always take you on a good journey and then hits you with some shockers! A movie adaptation of this could fill some of the plot holes and be a great suspence thriller! I loved reading this!
This is another great twisty read by Freida McFadden. This one brings readers to high school, where the popular and handsome English teacher is married to the unpopular and somewhat plain Math teacher. What secrets does their marriage hold?
I thought this book was very entertaining, and hard to put down. It’s a bit outlandish, but that just adds to the fun. I was really surprised by one of the twists, and hadn’t guessed it in advance.
Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Freida did it again!!! What amazing thriller. I couldn’t put this book down. The story gets you hooked from the very beginning and what happens on each chapter will leave you wanting to keep going regardless of the time of day.
Much like with 'The Housemaid Is Watching', I hoped this book would make me like Freida McFadden but alas.
Entertaining popcorn read, with a surprising twist that keeps McFadden's fans coming back for more. While this one's plot and characterization were pretty shallow, it didn't stop me from wanting to keep reading -- there's enough suspense and pacing to make this a solid beach thriller. If you're looking for something with more depth and intricate plotting, maybe skip this one. Otherwise, if you're a fan of McFadden or looking for a quick read, I'd recommend giving this one a try!
3.5 stars, rounding up!
i don’t know what the author puts into her books but ever since the first chapter i’m already wrapped up into the story, so when i read the plot to this one i knew it was going to be no different.
but approach this book cautiously, as it delves into unsettling and disturbing themes that may provoke discomfort. There were instances where I had to pause, collect myself, and set the book aside momentarily. It's a turbulent ride of unease, so ensure you're prepared for the journey ahead.
the pervasive atmosphere of distrust keeps you constantly on edge, questioning every motive. This book is akin to a wild rollercoaster of unexpected turns and characters whose reliability is constantly in doubt. Just when you think you have it all figured out, bam! The ending hits you like an unforeseen surprise party.
within this captivating narrative, we follow the perspectives of Eve, a dissatisfied teacher grappling with the complexities of married life, and Addie, a troubled student whose actions carry significant consequences. As their stories intertwine, the plot unfurls with layers of complexity, unveiling a tapestry of intricacies and revelations.
to fully grasp the depth of this tale, one must embark on the journey of reading it firsthand, as the nuances are best experienced directly. I've intentionally kept this review vague, but rest assured, the book offers a gratifying experience that won't disappoint.
I ended up reading 13 Freida McFadden books in a row thanks to the introduction through Netgalley! This is absolutely one of her best!! Highly recommend and have already purchased several physical and digital copies for library collections.
I found this piece to be exceptionally well-crafted, and I'm eagerly anticipating the opportunity to delve into more works by this author. Given its potential popularity among our library patrons, we're certainly looking forward to adding it to our collection
This was one of my favorites! Freida managed to do it again… just when I think I know how it is going to end a twist and nothing is as it seems
This book was absolutely incredible! It took me awhile to get truly sucked in, but once I was it was game over. I HAD to know what happened and didn’t care how late I stayed up to finish!
Another great book by this author! I loved it. I thought that I knew what was happening during most of the book but then I was completely surprised by the ending. I didn’t see it coming AT ALL. This is why Freida continues to be one of my favorite thriller authors.
I love this author and was excited to see she was coming out with a new book!!
The Teacher is absolutely amazing and once you start it, you won’t want to put it down until you finish it. This book keeps you guessing who done it until the very end. You won’t be disappointed with this one. It is definitely a 5 star read.
As a teacher, I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about reading a mystery/thriller about a teacher. Turns out, it was so good. I couldn't get enough of it. The story was told from multiple points of view, only some (or none?) of which were reliable, and had an ending that I did not see coming.
Although the main story line involved inappropriate teacher/student relationships, it did not feel forced because the high school point of view was written so well that it made you remember the incredible hormone explosion that is high school, way before you've mastered good decision making. Also, I loved the literary references sprinkled throughout, because of course that's the case when a character is a high school English Teacher.
I love Freida’s books and actually bought a signed version of it when it came out. As usual, it was a quick read, but as a teacher, I was a little disturbed by the warped minds in this novel. However, as always, Freida’s book left me shocked which just proves what an amazing author she is!
Loved this. This was my first Freida McFadden novel but it certainly won't be my last. Gripping and extremely fast-paced.
I'd not read any of Freida's books before but this certainly won't be the last. What a great story and totally gripping. I read it very quickly as just wanted to know what happens...
This was the first Freida McFadden book I've ever read and it will not be the last! In fact, I've been actively looking for all the rest of her books since I finished this one. What an absolutely insane ride! And that last twist blew my darn mind! This was a little hard to read, as I spent a few years working as a substitute teacher, so I know a little about the ins-and-outs of working in a school. I think the most messed up part is that I could actually see this happening in real life. Such a crazy book!
This is another fast page-turner from Freida! Once again I read this in 2 sittings over a 24 hour period. The Teacher reminds me of her earlier work with twists galore and jaw-dropping reveals. As a fan, I did enjoy the Poe references and was there a bit of a nod to a Tell Tale Heart? And also as a shoe addict, I enjoyed all the lovely designer "cameos" however I can see how it might get on the nerves of others. I would like to see Freida tighten up her writing a little bit. The characters' inner dialogue can sometimes be too juvenile and monotonous. I find myself skimming over the "well what can I do about it" and "I mean...." sentences while the character is making up their mind about something. All in all, it's another solid "Freida" and I don't think her fans will be disappointed in this one! Thank you NetGalley and Poisoned Press for this ARC in exchange for my honest review!
