Another page gripping, fast paced psychological thriller from Freida. I devoured this book. If I had the time I would have read in one sitting and finished in only a few hours. I didn’t want to put it down.
While yes I believe this story has plot holes and some far fetched twists I just did not care. I really enjoyed it and even guessed a twist or two which is incredibly hard to do with Freida books. I will say I didn’t get the last two twists at the end and loved them!
Check your triggers with this book because it is quite sickening how adults can pry on children like that.
I will say I do wish the ending or epilogue would have been a bit longer. I felt it was a little rushed, but then again I never want Freida’s books to end.
A job well done. I loved it!
Thank you Poisoned Pen Press for my e arc! Be on the lookout for this awesome book PUB date 02/06/24
Woah!!! Five stars. So many surprises in this book. A couple I predicted and a few I did not. This is one I’ll be recommending to everyone!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy in exchange for an honest review.
I was 3 pages from the end and disappointed that I predicted everything that happened. Then I got to the last page and had to re-read it 3 times. My jaw was on the FLOOR. Completely unexpected ending. I’m shocked
Another excellent book by Freida! She kept throwing in little twists all through this one, maybe more so than her other books! Definitely keeps her readers on their toes!
This may not be McFadden's best work, but it is still very engaging. Read it in two sitting - had to take a serious break.
Unfortunately, all the characters were very unlikeable, and I did not care which one of them died or who did it.
The plot twist was rather predictable, and the school setting didn't do it for me.
As usual Freida knocks it out the park again with a fast paced page turner. I believe that The Teacher is going to be one of my favorite books by her. As you piece together why the student seems to be the issue and what roles the teachers and adults in her life really play you will be shocked.
What a wild ride! As always, Freida leaves you guessing until the absolute last line. And even then, you may still be guessing! The Teacher is no exception. Eve and her husband Nate are both teachers at their local high school. Eve is your typical tough math teacher while Nate is the down to earth English teacher. Neither have had any issues, that is until Addie becomes both of their students. Immediately, Eve distrusts Addie based on rumors of her involvement with another teacher. Although she warns Nate of Addie’s troubled past, he chooses to see the best in his new student. As the first semester progresses, neither teacher is prepared for what damage Addie is capable of causing. Is Addie the troubled teen everyone thinks she is? Can she be trusted? If the rumors are false, then what is really going on at the high school?
The last 40% of the book truly gave me reading whiplash. I thought I had some of the twists figured out, but I was way off on all of them! Like way off. Although some parts of the story line made me uncomfortable as a former educator, the ending is truly worthy of a 4.5/5. Freida has done it again! Dare I say this is her best yet?!
THE TEACHER by Frieda McFadden. Released v February 2024. High school is a jungle. There are dangerous things around every corner and you never know where a predator might be. Excellent book
Freida McFadden is undoubtedly the queen of the thriller, and this book was the best of what she delivers to her readers!
The Teacher is a tense thriller with several twists and turns that keep you guessing. I also thought the writing from a teenager’s perspective wasn’t out of touch, keeping in mind what Addie was going through. But what really hooked me were Eve and Nate, teachers and husband and wife. The events in the third part were great, and I felt the developments were handled well, with the pacing quick but believable (in the world of thrillers). I was hooked throughout and read through this quickly while enjoying every page.
I will be recommending this to readers of thrillers and mysteries as well as those wanting to become familiar with these genres!
Thank you again for the ARC, Poisoned Pen Press, by what is becoming a favorite author of mine. It is much appreciated and I enjoyed the read and the opportunity to share my feedback.
This Easy to connect thriller with vibes of teacher student love triangle, had twists I had not considered. Having read several other books by Frieda I felt this one was a little slow to get moving, thought the topic, and plot seemed to make me want to grab it and read it .... it was a slow pull into the gist of the story and still there were some unexpected twists.
So many times while reading The Teacher, I was left saying, "Ew, gross, this person is trash". But I think that's what McFadden was going for, and I read this in about two sittings, so I would describe it as fast-paced, compelling, and twisty. The ending was imperfect in that one character gets away with something (in my opinion) more disgusting than regular murder (or the type of killing generally featured in McFadden's books). I would recommend this to patrons who enjoyed Tarryn Fisher and Colleen Hoover.
I enjoyed this book but it seemed very ordinary at first but the ending took it to a new level. I considered not finishing the book, but I am sure glad that I didn’t, the finale makes it so worthwhile?
As an educator, I was dying to get my hands on this one!
McFadden's suspenseful storytelling had me hooked until the jaw-dropping epilogue. While some parts were a bit unbelievable, the shock factor at the end is signature McFadden. Quick hook: Eve and Nate, a teacher-couple at their high school, find their lives entangled with the aftermath of a scandal involving a student named Addie.
The alternating perspectives of Eve and Addie provide a gripping lens into this complex narrative.
Thank you to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the ARC!
Thank you NetGalley for the advance readers copy in exchange for my honest review.
I was so happy with myself for figuring this one out. As I sat there with a smug smile on my face, telling myself "I knew it!", I was like, wait a minute... What about??? And then BOOM! *mind blown*
Freida has done it again. I absolutely loved this book and have already pre-ordered a copy for my library. I cannot wait to share The Teacher with my patrons.
2.5 stars
I loved The Coworker, but The Teacher fell extremely flat for me. It seemed unrealistic and had many plot holes. I do really enjoy Frieda McFadden’s writing but this book made me feel weird and just questioning “how?”
The 16 year old girl in this book, Addie, is hard to feel believable in the way she talks. The comments about Lucky Charms and Lil Nas X made me cringe a bit. It just did not feel natural. She is a teenager, who is going through it, but this goes beyond that and is more so about how her “teenage” side is shown in the writing.
The logistics of so much of what happened in the climax of the story felt so jumbled, and again, just unrealistic for a mystery/thriller. Most parts of this book felt predictable. There was one plot twist I did not see coming, but most of the book I could see coming before it happened.
It was so back and forth in a very odd way, I just was not a fan. I will definitely still pick up other books of Freida’s in the future!
Absolutely incredible! I love this book. It is definitely one of my favorite Freida books. I highly recommend it. Great plot, fantastic character development, and engaging from beginning to end. Bravo Freida!
This book was top notch! FREDIA did it again with this thriller and its all twists and turns!! I inhaled this book all in one day!! Love love love
As usual, this author threw in more than one deviously wonderful twist at the end that I did not see coming. As a fan of this author I keep thinking that one day I will figure out the ending, but so far I am still surprised at the end. Parts of this book are raw and emotional, which fits with the setting of a high school filled with the heightened emotions of teenagers and the adults who are responsible for them. This book flips between different character perspectives, which I found captivating and added depth to the characters. I will continue looking forward to Freida Mcfadden's books.
Secrets, twists, and revenge - my favorites! This one is great as a crossover since there are POVs of both teen and adults. Sometimes the reader thinks they have an inkling of what is actually going on and then BOOM the twist comes. McFadden is one of my go to authors now- quick, fast paced thrillers.
Thank you, NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for allowing me the opportunity to read the ARC of The Teacher.
Freida McFadden has done it again. This is my favorite book of hers and I highly recommend it. This is a jaw-dropping thriller told from the perspectives of Eve, the teacher, and Addie, the student. It is full of twists that you will not be able to put down. It is fast-paced with shorter chapters that will have you hooked from the beginning and shocked at the end. I give it all the stars.
