Holy cow! This book was a little boring in the beginning, but by the end, wow was not expecting that! Kenzie was also having an affair with Mr. Bennett. Eve was a child when she met Nate and stated their love affair then got married. Then to top it off, Eve's Jay at the shoe store was Addies best friend Hudson!

Oh my word... yes! I truly think this one is one of her best. If you are looking for a thriller that you think you've figured out but the author comes back around and gives you a full on "HUH UH!" ending this is it! Freida McFadden is an author I can't recommend enough to customers and after reading I went back and pre ordered a larger batch in addition to the first round I had coming because I knew it just wouldn't be enough. Every single customer who has read this also has given raving reviews!

Another spine-tingling, roller coaster ride of a book!
McFadden's books always keep that suspense in high gear and I certainly didn't' anticipate the ending or that twist that caught me by surprise.
The plot seems simple enough. Eve and Nate are two teachers married to each other and employed at the same high sch00l. A previous scandal is revealed and the action begins. To give anymore of the plot would detract from the suspenseful read.
It has all the elements of a thriller and it certainly accomplishes that.

I love Freida's books. This was not one of my favorites. I didn't like any of the characters or the story. Some of her books are intense and I have a hard time putting them down. I didn't feel that way with this one. I am hoping the next housemaid book is better.

Freida McFadden has done it again! I've enjoyed many of her books, and I'm never able to guess the twist. She keeps me guessing until the end.

The Teacher was no different. I thoroughly enjoyed this psychological thriller.

Freida McFadden is my favorite recommendation for my library patrons. Once again, Freida tricked me at the very end. She is so clever about dropping clues, and once I finished, I thought, how did I not see that coming? Because Freida is such a great suspense writer. Can't wait for the next one!

I read this book along with listening to the audiobook. The only reason I made it through this book is because I love the narrator of the audiobook. The story was pretty much what I expected. A Lifetime movie in a book with a serious creep. I mean I still watch Lifetime movies even when I know what is going to happen. It's like the accident on the side of the road, you look.
Nathaniel is a 38-year-old man who is having an affair with his 16-year-old student, Addie! Super Creep! He is her English teacher. He loves her, she's his soulmate. OK! NOT!
Addie - the 16-year-old girl seemed extra naive to me. I know first love is deep and all-encompassing and all, but she could have been smarter. She should have been smarter.
This book is told from Addie, Nataniel, and Eve's POV's. Eve is Nathaniel's wife and fellow teacher at the same high school. She's not all that likable either.
Everybody in the book is hiding something and doing bad things. Basic plot, unrealistic characters, and a not-so-twisty twist.

I loved her book The Housemaid, so I was excited to read this one. Unfortunately I was very disappointed. I can't believe this book was published. Considering our current climate it was surprising that a book in 2024 would be so descriptive in describing a student and teacher affair.

I guessed the ending, but I didn't guess the last minute twist at the end, so I can thoroughly appreciate being surprised at the end. It was very entertaining even though I wanted to vomit the entire time over the student/teacher relationship. I will add that I thought the way Addie talked was extremely unbelievable as a teenager. The girl talked like she was 65 years old.

Other than that, it was a pretty entertaining read albeit revolting in subject matter.

The Teacher by Frieda McFadden is a nail biter to the end of the book. With an array of characters the reader is led along to a definite suspect. But the ending is a shocker! Well written with many red herrings. Once the reader starts the book, can’t put it down.

I have been bulk reading Freida McFadden's books lately and I was so excited to get an ARC of this upcoming one. It was so good y'all.

I did get the ick a couple of times while reading it just because it dealt with teachers and younger girls but oh man, the twists more than made up for it. I love how quick these books read and how much tension and suspense is thrown in, it makes it such a fun experience. This was one of those books that I thought it was going one way and then it went a completely different way and my mind was blown.

Thanks so much to Poisoned Pen Press for the complimentary copy for my honest review!

Eve & Nate are a married couple who teach at the same high school. Eve is an uptight math teacher & Nate is a handsome, well-loved, friendly teacher.
Eve and Nate have issues that press into their marriage, making it less than ideal.

Enters Addie, a student who was in a messy situation with another male teacher and is now getting herself into another pickle.

How does Addie affect their lives? All I can say is there is more to them.

The characters in The Teacher are a darn mess. They could all use some therapy. Suffice it to say, they don’t get any.

The teacher and student hook-up is disturbing, but also what this story revolves around. That, a weird shoe obsession, and some real creeps.

It was no surprise that the ending spurted out something that hadn’t crossed my mind. Frieda is a master in that department! I know everything will be connected in the end, but I never figure out the full aspect of the connection. That is part of what makes Frieda’s stories so good!

💕Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for providing this ebook for me to read and review.

Eve Bennett is always being told how lucky she is. Why? Because she has a good-looking husband who is smart and witty and that he married her in spite of being plain. Nathaniel kisses her before going to work, one kiss when they get home and on in bed. They have sex every first Saturday of the month. Eve fills their love life is lacking and doesn’t know why. Eve starts having an affair with a shoe salesman. They meet once a week. Last year in Caseham High School where they both worked, there is a school scandal due to a student-teacher relationship. Although there was no evidence of anything illicit or illegal. Unfortunately the student was seen outside of that teacher’s home. Why? Regardless that teacher got fired. All the students in that high school liked him and are angry at her Addie. Addie is in Mrs, Bennett’s class for math. And her last period is in Mr. Bennett’s English class where they are studying poetry which Addie is good at. Mr. Bennett’s wants to see her after class. Why?

The novel is full of secrets that aren’t immediately revealed. This suspenseful mystery has several odds and ends which makes the novel fascinating. There is also a surprise that I never expected. It’s an excellent mystery that you won’t want to stop reading.

Secrets (so many secrets) and lies....

Synopsis from the publisher: Lesson #1: Trust no one.

Eve has a good life. She wakes up each day, kisses her husband Nate, and heads off to teach math at the local high school. All is as it should be. Except…Last year, Caseham High was rocked by a scandal involving a student-teacher affair, with one student, Addie, at its center. But Eve knows there is far more to these ugly rumors than meets the eye.

Addie can’t be trusted. She lies. She hurts people. She destroys lives. At least, that’s what everyone says. But nobody knows the real Addie. Nobody knows the secrets that could destroy her. And Addie will do anything to keep it quiet…

My thoughts: From McFadden's very first sentence, "Digging a grave is hard work," I was hooked. That was a knock it out of the park kind of first sentence. The Teacher dropped me into a world of deceipt, secrets and revenge; it's a psychological thriller that combines dark themes, unexpected twists, and compelling characters.

I loved the plot twists. Trigger warning: This story has a teacher-student (high school) relationship in it and if that makes you the least bit uncomfortable, then I’d give it a pass. I know others have said the hated the ending and epilogue, but, honestly, that’s what brought it from 3 to 4 stars for me. I like it when an author can surprise me.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Poisen Pen Press for introducing me to Freida McFadden.

I was hooked from the first page! The last chapter ohhh my gosshhhh I can’t even wrap my head around. I never guessed this twist. Every book I’ve read from Frieda has been great but this one is in my top favorites!

The amount of twists in this book kept my head spinning and my eyes flying across the page! Told mostly from two perspectives, a teacher and a student, you learn of rumors, bullying, cheating, inappropriate relationships, and violence. It was fast paced, and kept me wanting to read more! I will absolutely recommend this to any thriller fans!

🍎 My Thoughts 🍎
Not my favorite by this author, but I still really enjoyed it overall. This book is NOT FOR EVERYONE! It has a very taboo subject line, teacher vs student relationships, the students being under age. Read at your own discretion. That being said... Strong emotions, strong story line. The last 50-60ish pages were completely spoiled for me, so I didn't get to expierience the "jaw-dropping twists" that so many others loved about this book, but still very solid. A huge thank you to Frieda and her team for allowing me to ARC read for them! Excited to get my hands on my next McFadden book!!

It did throw me for a loop that one of the POVS was the child, but it was good! I felt like this was a great next novel for Frieda, and it held much of the same themes and suspense feelings from the book.
