The Teacher is a fast read and entertaining despite the subject matter. I would classify it more as YA than thriller because of the author's style of writing. It wasn't as repetitive as her previous works, which made it much more enjoyable to read. The Teacher is also largely predictable and with no true shocking twists. At the end of the book there are two twists, one of which was mildly surprising. The other, however, was unrealistic. But that's typical for a Frieda McFadden book - the final twist is usually implausible. I give this book four stars because it held my attention, I wasn't bored and it wasn't a chore to read. I just wish the ending was more plausible. In every Frieda book, the bad guy lives happily ever after with no repercussions. Frustrating.
I am a fan of Freida McFadden and I enjoy her writing style but this book....it went places that were just unpleasant and skeevy. I hope she gets back to being the Freida I love with her next book.
I have seen a lot of talk about this book online and I have friends that are familiar with the author. I was drawn into the book pretty quickly and wanted to find out what happened. I thought that maybe Addie was an unreliable narrator at first, but it turns out she wasn't. I'd definitely recommend this to people who enjoy thrillers and psychology reads.
This was one wild ride… One of the best by Freida. She had me guessing from beginning to end. The twists. The ending. All of it.. by the end I had to pick my jaw up off the ground..
Loved this book. Freda always hits. The suspense and mystery was there like always I don’t know how she comes up with these stories. Def recommend
Quick and easy read but Freida McFadden never disappoints. I've read a few books from this author but am still surprised at twists and turns. It's perfect for a cozy weekend in, albeit the thriller-y vibe.
I mostly enjoyed this book. The plot was captivating and the suspense leading up to main events was well done. It was a quick read but I still found myself in suspense! It was disturbing without taking it too far, and I appreciate that it was ultimately a cautionary tale for young people rather than romancing the type of dangerous, manipulative and abusive relationship showcased in the story. My rating is mostly a reflection of the ending and how everything was tied up - it felt rushed, and it was confusing. It seemed like the final twist was shoved in their at the end to add an extra oomph to the story but it didn't hit it's mark for me. I love Freida McFadden and overall I will still recommend this book, especially to psychological thriller fans.
As always, Freida delivered another magnificent piece, which keeps you enthralled the entire time! Twists and turns one never expects!
Such a creepy, unsettling book! Freida McFadden really weaves a story that makes you see how an adult can seduce a minor. This book disturbed me greatly but I also couldn't stop reading. I wanted to see what happened!
Thank You to NetGalley for the free eARC.
Freida McFadden has become one of my favorite authors. Her book themes are interesting as are her characters. What I liked about this book was the short chapters and 3 people telling their story in alternating chapters.
Eve has a great life. She has a handsome husband, Nate, and a great job teaching high school math. She also has a passion for shoes.
Nate also teaches at the same high school. He teaches English and is a favorite teacher and the object of many crushes. He loves poetry and is the mentor for the poetry magazine and newspaper.
Something happened at the high school last year that was huge and is still being talked about this new school year. The events of last year surround, student, Adeline. Now a loner, she faces the backlash and memories of last year during this school year. At some point, these three characters play a role in each others lives. They're are so many twists and turns. Whose story do you believe? I thought I had it figured it out, and then wham a twist at the end I didn't see coming.
A quick read, you can't put down. It may have some triggers for some.
“Freida McFadden does it again. This one was a bit of a slow burn, but not in a bad way! The first twist I felt was a little bit expected. But! The twists that came after that I did not see coming at all. How she manages to do this book after book is beyond me.
Disgustingly delightful thriller. You know whats coming, and can’t look away. 10/10 would recommend to anyone looking for a juicy thriller!
I just finished binging this book - if you need a fast paced domestic thriller, this should be your next read! I had such a fun time reading this, and it definitely kept me entertained the whole way through! I felt like it has some similar vibes to Riverdale (season 1) but I don't want to mention too much and give away all the fun!
This book follows a couple different characters: Addie is a 16 year old troubled student who has secrets and tells lies. Eve is a high school teacher who is in a loveless marriage and has a shoe addiction problem. Nathaniel is also a high school teacher everyone has a crush on, and is also Eve's husband...
There were so many juicy things happening in this book! I kept wanting to read it to figure out who was lying, who was evil, and who I should be rooting for. In the end, I did predict a couple of the twists, but not all of them.
Thank you to Netgalley for sending me an arc for review!
Eve and Nate, married teachers at a local high school, find their routine marriage disrupted when Nate shows kindness to troubled student Addie. As Addie's infatuation with Nate grows, boundaries blur, leading to a shocking climax that exposes dark secrets and dangerous desires. Freida McFadden's narrative unfolds through the perspectives of Eve, Nate, and Addie, weaving a compelling tale of forbidden relationships and unexpected betrayals. McFadden's meticulous pacing and shocking plot twists keep readers engrossed until the very end, making this a must-read for fans of psychological thrillers.
I'm a huge fan of Freida's books, and this one did not disappoint! It grabbed me from the beginning and didn't let go. The suspense grew as the book went along, and I was furiously turning pages by the end. Usually her books have one huge jaw-dropping twist at the end, but this one was more along the lines of one twist after another after another. There was one at the end of this one but it wasn't a huge one like usual. I definitely didn't see it coming, but I enjoyed the twists along the way much more than the ending one. Great book!
What an incredible read!! Once I started I could not put it down. Kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time and the ending had me screaming! I never saw that coming! Phenomenally written with a suspenseful storyline. All of Frieda's books are amazing and I highly recommend them! Especially this one! Some possible triggers. Please research those before reading.
I’ve loved all of Freida’s books that I have read, but this one hit differently, and not in a good way. As a 38 year old English teacher myself, this one was a cringefest for me. The plot line was good and the twists were exciting and unexpected, but I struggle with teachers again being placed in a negative light. I understand there are some bad apples out there, but the vast majority of teachers are willing to protect our students with our lives not corrupt them in horrific ways.
This book started out a little slow but boy when it took off did it take off!! The ended to this book absolutely had me screaming!! Yet another fantastic read by her!
I love some Frieda! I’m an educator and this book didn’t disappoint. Just the right amount of drama and suspense. I love the last minute twist and plot. A part two woudl be excellent to see where the main characters next adventure takes.
Just when I think her books can't get any better, here comes "The Teacher". Like all of Freida's books, I feel like I know where it is going, and of course, I am wrong. The twist at the end, I was NOT ready for.
I freaked out when I got an ARC to read in NetGalley but had already preordered on Amazon. I can't wait to get my copy to read again and share it with others!
