Eve Bennett is always being told how lucky she is. Why? Because she has a good-looking husband who is smart and witty and that he married her in spite of being plain. Nathaniel kisses her before going to work, one kiss when they get home and on in bed. They have sex every first Saturday of the month. Eve fills their love life is lacking and doesn’t know why. Eve starts having an affair with a shoe salesman. They meet once a week. Last year in Caseham High School where they both worked, there is a school scandal due to a student-teacher relationship. Although there was no evidence of anything illicit or illegal. Unfortunately the student was seen outside of that teacher’s home. Why? Regardless that teacher got fired. All the students in that high school liked him and are angry at her Addie. Addie is in Mrs, Bennett’s class for math. And her last period is in Mr. Bennett’s English class where they are studying poetry which Addie is good at. Mr. Bennett’s wants to see her after class. Why?

The novel is full of secrets that aren’t immediately revealed. This suspenseful mystery has several odds and ends which makes the novel fascinating. There is also a surprise that I never expected. It’s an excellent mystery that you won’t want to stop reading.

Secrets (so many secrets) and lies....

Synopsis from the publisher: Lesson #1: Trust no one.

Eve has a good life. She wakes up each day, kisses her husband Nate, and heads off to teach math at the local high school. All is as it should be. Except…Last year, Caseham High was rocked by a scandal involving a student-teacher affair, with one student, Addie, at its center. But Eve knows there is far more to these ugly rumors than meets the eye.

Addie can’t be trusted. She lies. She hurts people. She destroys lives. At least, that’s what everyone says. But nobody knows the real Addie. Nobody knows the secrets that could destroy her. And Addie will do anything to keep it quiet…

My thoughts: From McFadden's very first sentence, "Digging a grave is hard work," I was hooked. That was a knock it out of the park kind of first sentence. The Teacher dropped me into a world of deceipt, secrets and revenge; it's a psychological thriller that combines dark themes, unexpected twists, and compelling characters.

I loved the plot twists. Trigger warning: This story has a teacher-student (high school) relationship in it and if that makes you the least bit uncomfortable, then I’d give it a pass. I know others have said the hated the ending and epilogue, but, honestly, that’s what brought it from 3 to 4 stars for me. I like it when an author can surprise me.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Poisen Pen Press for introducing me to Freida McFadden.

I was hooked from the first page! The last chapter ohhh my gosshhhh I can’t even wrap my head around. I never guessed this twist. Every book I’ve read from Frieda has been great but this one is in my top favorites!

The amount of twists in this book kept my head spinning and my eyes flying across the page! Told mostly from two perspectives, a teacher and a student, you learn of rumors, bullying, cheating, inappropriate relationships, and violence. It was fast paced, and kept me wanting to read more! I will absolutely recommend this to any thriller fans!

🍎 My Thoughts 🍎
Not my favorite by this author, but I still really enjoyed it overall. This book is NOT FOR EVERYONE! It has a very taboo subject line, teacher vs student relationships, the students being under age. Read at your own discretion. That being said... Strong emotions, strong story line. The last 50-60ish pages were completely spoiled for me, so I didn't get to expierience the "jaw-dropping twists" that so many others loved about this book, but still very solid. A huge thank you to Frieda and her team for allowing me to ARC read for them! Excited to get my hands on my next McFadden book!!

It did throw me for a loop that one of the POVS was the child, but it was good! I felt like this was a great next novel for Frieda, and it held much of the same themes and suspense feelings from the book.

The Teacher is a fast read and entertaining despite the subject matter. I would classify it more as YA than thriller because of the author's style of writing. It wasn't as repetitive as her previous works, which made it much more enjoyable to read. The Teacher is also largely predictable and with no true shocking twists. At the end of the book there are two twists, one of which was mildly surprising. The other, however, was unrealistic. But that's typical for a Frieda McFadden book - the final twist is usually implausible. I give this book four stars because it held my attention, I wasn't bored and it wasn't a chore to read. I just wish the ending was more plausible. In every Frieda book, the bad guy lives happily ever after with no repercussions. Frustrating.

I am a fan of Freida McFadden and I enjoy her writing style but this book....it went places that were just unpleasant and skeevy. I hope she gets back to being the Freida I love with her next book.

I have seen a lot of talk about this book online and I have friends that are familiar with the author. I was drawn into the book pretty quickly and wanted to find out what happened. I thought that maybe Addie was an unreliable narrator at first, but it turns out she wasn't. I'd definitely recommend this to people who enjoy thrillers and psychology reads.

This was one wild ride… One of the best by Freida. She had me guessing from beginning to end. The twists. The ending. All of it.. by the end I had to pick my jaw up off the ground..

Quick and easy read but Freida McFadden never disappoints. I've read a few books from this author but am still surprised at twists and turns. It's perfect for a cozy weekend in, albeit the thriller-y vibe.

I mostly enjoyed this book. The plot was captivating and the suspense leading up to main events was well done. It was a quick read but I still found myself in suspense! It was disturbing without taking it too far, and I appreciate that it was ultimately a cautionary tale for young people rather than romancing the type of dangerous, manipulative and abusive relationship showcased in the story. My rating is mostly a reflection of the ending and how everything was tied up - it felt rushed, and it was confusing. It seemed like the final twist was shoved in their at the end to add an extra oomph to the story but it didn't hit it's mark for me. I love Freida McFadden and overall I will still recommend this book, especially to psychological thriller fans.

Such a creepy, unsettling book! Freida McFadden really weaves a story that makes you see how an adult can seduce a minor. This book disturbed me greatly but I also couldn't stop reading. I wanted to see what happened!

Thank You to NetGalley for the free eARC.

Freida McFadden has become one of my favorite authors. Her book themes are interesting as are her characters. What I liked about this book was the short chapters and 3 people telling their story in alternating chapters.

Eve has a great life. She has a handsome husband, Nate, and a great job teaching high school math. She also has a passion for shoes.

Nate also teaches at the same high school. He teaches English and is a favorite teacher and the object of many crushes. He loves poetry and is the mentor for the poetry magazine and newspaper.

Something happened at the high school last year that was huge and is still being talked about this new school year. The events of last year surround, student, Adeline. Now a loner, she faces the backlash and memories of last year during this school year. At some point, these three characters play a role in each others lives. They're are so many twists and turns. Whose story do you believe? I thought I had it figured it out, and then wham a twist at the end I didn't see coming.

A quick read, you can't put down. It may have some triggers for some.

“Freida McFadden does it again. This one was a bit of a slow burn, but not in a bad way! The first twist I felt was a little bit expected. But! The twists that came after that I did not see coming at all. How she manages to do this book after book is beyond me.

Disgustingly delightful thriller. You know whats coming, and can’t look away. 10/10 would recommend to anyone looking for a juicy thriller!

I just finished binging this book - if you need a fast paced domestic thriller, this should be your next read! I had such a fun time reading this, and it definitely kept me entertained the whole way through! I felt like it has some similar vibes to Riverdale (season 1) but I don't want to mention too much and give away all the fun!

This book follows a couple different characters: Addie is a 16 year old troubled student who has secrets and tells lies. Eve is a high school teacher who is in a loveless marriage and has a shoe addiction problem. Nathaniel is also a high school teacher everyone has a crush on, and is also Eve's husband...

There were so many juicy things happening in this book! I kept wanting to read it to figure out who was lying, who was evil, and who I should be rooting for. In the end, I did predict a couple of the twists, but not all of them.

Thank you to Netgalley for sending me an arc for review!
