*The Days I Loved You Most* by Amy Neff is a beautifully written, emotional journey through love, heartbreak, and self-discovery. The story captures the raw, bittersweet moments of relationships—both the joy and the pain—making it deeply relatable. Neff’s prose is poetic and evocative, pulling readers into the characters’ emotions with every page. While some parts feel slower, the depth of feeling and the honest portrayal of love’s complexities make up for it. It’s a heartfelt read that lingers long after the last page. Perfect for those who enjoy poignant, reflective love stories that feel achingly real.

This book was such a great read! As I approach the more golden years married 45years this summer - I can't help but relate my own life experiences to what I was reading, I don't think any words can describe how many emotions this book revealed for me. It is heartwarming, emotional, thought-provoking, sad, happy and so many more emotions that the list can go on and on. I think this would be an incredible movie and hope to see that one day. We know the book is always better but a movie has great potential. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an opportunity to read this book in an exchange for an honest review. Five stars for me!

It's been a while since I read a book so touching. It tells the love story of Evelyn and Joseph, a couple who has grown up together and plan to die together after Evelyn's diagnosis of Parkinson's disease. The story jumps from past and present, slowly covering the decades they were together, picturing the good memories but also the struggles that tested their relationship. We get to know mostly Evelyn and Joseph's POV, with some chapters narrated by their children: Jane, Thomas and Violet. This is inherently a sad story but also a heartwarming one, I really loved the ending. The author herself describes this book to be like The Notebook, and honestly she nailed it. I know I will be thinking of Evelyn and Joseph for a while.

I just finished The Days I Loved You Most by Amy Neff, and it left me feeling so emotional and reflective. 💖 This beautiful debut novel tells the story of Evelyn and Joseph, whose love spans decades, from their first meeting in 1941 to their later years together. Set in a cherished seaside town, the book weaves together their love story with the experiences of their adult children, making it a poignant exploration of love, legacy, and family.

The alternating timelines and perspectives give such a deep, intimate look at the characters, their relationships, and how life’s twists shape them. It’s a heartfelt story about personal growth, family bonds, and how love can endure even through life’s challenges.

If you're a fan of character-driven novels that explore the complexities of family and love, The Days I Loved You Most is a must-read. 💕✨

This was a solid character driven novel that so eloquently demonstrated the real life ups and downs that occur when it comes to marriage, family, love and grief.

I enjoyed that our main couple got their “happily ever after”, but we also got a front row seat to all of the trials and tribulations they went through to get there. Nothing was sugar coated and this book touched on real struggles that even the happiest of married couples go through, whether it be together or separately.

The dual timeline was well done, but this did read a little slow for me and sometimes the writing felt overly detailed and I found myself getting bored. However, it was still very well written and I enjoyed that we got to know so many of the characters. I almost wish she had gotten to know the others a little bit better, as I felt they could have contributed more to the plot.

Would absolutely recommend this to any one who is looking for an emotional and heartwarming romance.

This is one of the most beautifully written books I’ve ever read. Honest and utterly breathtaking. A story about a love so deep that it transcends even life itself. 💔✨

It’s sweet, emotional, and heartbreaking in the most profound way. Every page is filled with love, loss, and the kind of devotion that stays with you long after the last word. 💕📖

n the summer of 1941, on the New England shores where they were raised, Evelyn and Joseph fell in love. Now, more than sixty years later, with a lifetime between them, they have gathered their three grown children to share the staggering news: she has received a tragic diagnosis, and he cannot live without her. So in one year’s time, they will end their lives on their own terms.

The Days I Loved You Most by Amy Neff is a heartfelt and emotionally charged novel that explores the complexities of love, loss, and the passage of time. With richly developed characters and a story that tugs at the heartstrings, this book is a compelling read that resonates long after the last page.

The story centers around Lily, a young woman who is grappling with the aftermath of a deep personal loss. As she navigates the pain of moving on, she reflects on her past and the days she spent with someone she loved most, only to be separated by circumstances that seemed beyond her control. The book alternates between the past and present, showing the impact of past choices and the slow process of healing.

Amy Neff has a gift for creating well-rounded, believable characters, and Lily is no exception. Her journey of self-discovery and coming to terms with her grief is portrayed in a relatable and raw manner. As Lily confronts the ghosts of her past and the relationships that shaped her, readers are given an intimate look into her emotional world. The emotional depth of the book is one of its strongest points—Neff doesn’t shy away from the messy, difficult parts of life, and that vulnerability makes the story feel real and grounded.

The writing itself is lyrical and evocative, with Neff’s prose beautifully capturing the emotional weight of Lily’s experiences. The themes of love and loss are woven throughout the narrative in a way that doesn’t feel heavy-handed but instead allows the reader to feel what the characters are going through. The pacing of the novel is steady, allowing space for the emotional depth to unfold without feeling rushed.

The book’s portrayal of relationships—whether romantic, familial, or platonic—is another highlight. The dynamics between Lily and the people in her life, including her family and her love interests, are realistically portrayed, adding layers to the story. There is a sense of growth and healing in these relationships that makes the overall narrative feel hopeful, despite the struggles the characters face.

One of the few drawbacks of the book, however, is that at times the plot felt a bit predictable, and there were moments where I wished for more twists or surprises to keep things fresh. While the story is engaging, some readers may find that the pacing slows down in certain sections, especially when reflecting on the past.

Despite this, The Days I Loved You Most is an emotionally satisfying and thought-provoking book that beautifully captures the essence of love, loss, and the personal journeys we all take toward healing. It’s a book that reminds us that, no matter the heartache, there is always the possibility of growth and new beginnings.

This book was good and uplifting but not entirely super rememberable. It was a cute and heartwarming love story about an older couple and their history and a reminder that we all have the ability to have a perfect love story at the end of the day despite the trials and tribulations of life

The Days I loved you Most by Amy Neff was high on my anticipated list based on the crazy amt of hype this book got pre publication. Unfortunately, the subject matter hit too close to home after the recent loss of my father so I started but DNF. I'm sure if I read at another time, I'll be at a better place to read it.

Thank you so much to Harlequin Trade Publishing for a copy of this book!

**Please check the trigger warnings for this before reading**

This book was sent to me with a pack of tissues and a note advising how I would need these.
Okay so I did not need the tissues but I could see why it came with a warning. I thought the parts that were more emotional was thinking about getting older and thinking about my parents and more recently my grandmother dying of Parkinson's. Those pulled on my heartstrings a little more than the romance itself.

Though the synopsis tells you the gut wrenching decision that Evelyn and Joseph are deciding to end their lives in a years time. Don't worry you get all their reasons why and their reactions from the children once they tell them the news.

This book is told from two different timelines: The Present vs Past with multiple point of views. We get to see Evelyn and Joseph's love story and the complexities of a relationship and how marriage is work. We also get insight in on their life with their children and how their lives change of the news as well as events in their life shape who they are. I thought the chapters that dealt with Evelyn's relationship with her daughter Jane was very introspective. - a rebellious teen in the late 60s , you know she was in for a wild time!

Other readers compared this book to likes such as The Notebook and Me Before You. I have not read either but if you have and loved them, then I would consider checking this one out as well!

The Days I Loved You Most by Amy Neff was a book I didn't know I needed, and it is the kind of book that makes you mad that it's relegated to the term of "women's fiction" because you want everyone to read it. It's a tender tale of family and an epic love story spanning decades. Highly recommended.

Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for sharing this book with me.

Thank you Harper Collins for the e-arc.

After reading fantasy this is just the palette cleanser that I needed.
I loved everything about Evelyn and Joseph’s relationship, there were times I found myself empathizing with how Evelyn on how she felt about motherhood and life in general at times.

If you like Nicholas sparks you will want to give this a try.

The Days I Loved You Most by Amy Neff is an unforgettable, passionate, emotional, heartbreaking, and heartwarming love story which spans fifty plus years. The story of Evelyn and Joseph, who fell in love quite young and have fought hard to keep their family together. This novel follows their time together after they make a tough announcement to their children that Evelyn is ill and is only expected to live a year. Additionally, Joseph has decided that he cannot live without her so he too will leave this Earth with his wife. As expected the children do not take this news well. The couple and their children spend the year reminiscing over the couples life.

This novel is well written and obviously emotional. There are points where it is difficult to connect to the characters but I found myself in tears throughout the book and it touches on serious topics but it's well worth a read..

This book should have a warning label attached. Topics that maybe will be too much for people who have experienced a family members decline. A beautiful love story, but I would have a hard time as a librarian recommending it if I didn’t know the person really well.
