A Today Show Pick
“I’ve never read a story quite like this deeply moving, complex novel." —Jodi Picoult, #1 New York Times bestselling author
Unforgettable and utterly romantic, The Days I Loved You Most is an emotional, life-affirming novel that asks, What if you could write the final chapter of your own love story?
In the summer of 1941, on the New England shores where they were raised, Evelyn and Joseph fell in love. Now, more than sixty years later, with a lifetime between them, they have gathered their three grown children to share the staggering news: she has received a heartbreaking diagnosis, and he can't live without her. So in one year's time they will end their love story on their own terms.
Over the next year, the couple retraces their past—all the joys and regrets that brought them to this moment. They embark on a journey to live out their greatest dreams and to connect with each of their children. But as their final days draw closer, they must confront the stark reality of what's to come, and make peace with the legacy they will leave behind for their family.
Spanning the twentieth century from World War II to 9/11 and beyond, The Days I Loved You Most is a timeless tale of unwavering devotion -- a moving tribute to the enduring power of love and a reminder that even in the darkest moments, there is always hope and beauty to be found.

I’ve been waiting to read a book like this my whole life. This book had me from the first page until the very last. It made me nostalgic for places I’ve never been, and missing people I’ve never met. The imagery this book possesses is simply stunning. I could see the flowers, smell the ocean, and feel like love and warmth. Clear your to be read pile and prepare to be devastated in the best and most beautiful way possible.
The story of Evelyn and Joseph will forever be one of the most beautiful love stories I have ever read. This book hooked me from the beginning and I could not wait to finish it. The flashbacks were just as wonderful to read as present time. I connected with so many parts of this beautiful love story, as it simultaneously ripped my heart out and put it back together again. Thank you Amy, for pouring your heart and soul into this story! I’ll be cheering you on and can’t wait for the world to read this masterpiece!
My eyes glistened with tears as I finished The Days I Loved You Most. The deep and endearing love of Joseph and Evelyn through the years will take hold and lead you through the remembrances of their life together. It is a love story for the ages encompassing all at
the joys, the fears, the awakenings, the sadness they experienced. Their decision to end their lives together due to Evelyn’s terminal illness creates chaos within the family and each adult child must come to their own conclusion about the decision. The book is lovely in all its parts, telling a beautiful yet heartbreaking story.
I highly recommend this novel.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The Days I Loved You Most is one of those “once in a lifetime” books that have the power to change you or just stay with you forever. Evelyn and Joseph have been together their entire lives, and when Evelyn gets a terrible health diagnosis, they decide to live one last year together before they will end their lives. Most of us know this going in, and yet it is still heartbreaking to read. Alternating between their past and their last year, we get to see the highs and lows of their love story. It’s truly beautiful and devastating, and I will not stop thinking about it anytime soon. After all, it begs the question…what would you do if you knew you had only one year left to live?
