An unforgettable book that fills up my top ten list for 2024! I have cried, laughed, pondered and cried some more. As heart-wrenching as The Notebook, and as beautiful a Love story as it gets. A genuine treasure for those who can relate with true love.
"What a beautiful garden we have made, Evelyn." Their beautiful story spans 60 years. Evelyn and Joseph grew up as next door neighbors, as her brother's best friend. When their relationship matures, the guys are sent off to war. War changes everything, but not their love for one another.
"I've never known a world without you in it, and I don't want to imagine the next one without you either." This comment is their vow when she is diagnosed with Parkinson's, they make a pact to end their life in one year together. Their three children are mortified and angry hoping to change their mind. The book brings life in chapters of the past bringing it to the present time. There is not a moment I could picture one without the other after reading about their devotion to one another.
Outstanding!! I highly recommend this one!
Thank you NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

What an emotional book! This book took me on a heart-wrenching ride following Evelyn & Joesph starting back in 1941. I loved their story and tissues are a must! The relationships explored between each set of parents and their 3 children was written so well. Not all relationships are perfect and glad this book touched on an imperfect family. I like how the lessons learned when dealing with a family members illness was an important healing step for all. Even not agreeing with Evelyn & Josephs decision, each family member wanted to build back their relationship. I loved that. All the feels and stars for this beautiful story.

I had the highest hopes for this one but unfortunately I feel like I have been struggling to connect with the main characters. I absolutely love a beautiful and sad story but I just don’t know. Something is missing here for me.

Back in May, I chanced on a story at An Unlikely Story bookshop where Amy Neff was having a launch of her Advanced Reader’s for her debut novel, The Days I Loved You Most. Whatever was shared there, made me go straight to Goodreads to see what the book was about and I just knew this was a book for me. Thankfully I was able to get a copy from Netgalley. Then, the timing was always off for me to read this book with the kind of focus I knew it needed until this weekend. I eagerly entered this world and was wholly and completely swept away by this book.

Evelyn and Joseph grew up as neighbors on the New England coast. Their’s was a lifetime love. She receives a devastating diagnosis and so they gather their children to share that they will end their love story in a years time, on their terms. The book goes from their childhood to their present, alternating between past memories and present experiences and told from many different points of view. There is so much to discuss and this would make a great bookclub choice!

This book is so beautifully written! The language, the word choices, the weaving of the story threads combine for an incredibly moving read that left me devastated in the very best way. This story will stay with me for a very long time. I am absolutely going to purchase a copy for my forever shelf!

If you're looking for the next read that'll make you feel all the feels, then look no further! This book will take you back to those Nicholas Sparks The Notebook days 💕 It's a heartwarming, bittersweet, cry me a river type of read! @htp_hive even sent a packet of tissues with the ARC knowing I'd need it!

Throughout the book, you follow Joseph and Evelyn's story jumping between the past and present. We see the trials their love goes through, the losses they experience, and the family they love and raise together. They've known each other all their lives and don't know a life without the other. Their grown children don't know how to deal with their decision to take matters into their own hands and end their lives together in one year.

This is a wonderful debut novel by @amyneffauthor ! It's available today in stores and online, and also as an add-on in @bookofthemonth ! Don't hesitate... Pick this book up now!

Thank you @htp_hive @htpbooks @parkrowbooks @netgalley for the advanced copies!

A touching story of the love of a lifetime, of a family, and how they handle a difficult diagnosis. Emotional look at life's ups and downs through the years from young love to late life. Really beautiful ending!

If you are looking for an epic love story like the Notebook, this is the book for you! Evelyn and Joseph have spent their whole lives together and now after a devastating diagnosis, they decide they can’t live apart and are willing to take drastic measures. Their family doesn’t agree and tries to convince them to change their minds.

The book is told in dual timelines from different members points of view. I liked the stories about Evelyn and Joseph and how their marriage wasn’t always such smooth sailing. A good relationship takes work and showing each other that you love each other and not just saying it. I liked that the author shows the highs and lows of a 50+ year relationship and the give and take it requires. She also shows the kids relationship with each parent and eventually the grandkids. I also loved that a lot of the book takes place in Boston, one of my favorite cities.

It’s definitely sad book and I would recommend reading the trigger warnings before proceeding. I’m also happy to answer any questions as well. It’s beautifully written and you can clearly tell this is a book that’s close to the author’s heart.

Thank you @parkrowbooks @htpbooks @htp_hive and @amyneffauthor for my gifted ARC.

4.5/5
One spring day, Joseph and Evelyn gather their three adult children together to share that they've decided to end their love story in one year. Evelyn has received a devastating diagnosis and Joseph has decided he does not want to live without the love of his life. Thomas, Violet, and Jane have one last year with their parents.

I admit I did not love this story when I began. I scoffed at the comparison to The Notebook and Me Before You. Y'all, I was WRONG! I adore The Days I Loved You Most more than I can convey. It is Joseph and Evelyn's love story. It is a story of marriage. It is a story of sacrifices. It is a story of building a family and raising children. It is a story of grief. It is a story of good-bye.

Amy Neff had me sobbing the last 50 pages of Evelyn and Joseph's story. The Days I Loved You Most made me think of losing my own mother. What would life have looked like if I had known it was my last year with her? Is it better or worse to know when your story is going to end? Do you spend that time savoring every moment or dreading when it's over?

Read this if you like:
• family sagas
• epic love stories
• reads perfect for discussion
• The Notebook or Me Before You

I was auto approved for this book and chose it because it looked like a nice easy summer beach read.

Boy was I wrong! This book had me from the first chapter.....it makes you feel so many things. Love, empathy, loss, sadness, happiness - but mostly how a life should be!

While it was one of the most difficult books I've ever read (am at the same stage of life asking many of the same questions) it was a beautiful and moving story from someone so young and just starting her career. If this is her first, I can't wait to see what comes next from this author! Truly a must read book - and I don't say that often!

I have never read a book that made me feel this many emotions. From the very start I knew it would be good. The love story and the family dynamics is amazing. I loved everything about this book. It was the sweetest, saddest book I’ve read. I do recommend only if you’re prepared to cry.

Many thanks to NetGalley, Harlequin Trade Publishing Park Row Books for gifting me a digital ARC of this wonderful debut novel by Amy Neff. All opinions expressed in this review are my own - 5 stars!

Evelyn and Joseph fell in love as teenage neighbors in the 1940s. Now, more than sixty years later, with a lifetime between them, they have gathered their three grown children to share the staggering news: she has received a tragic diagnosis, and he cannot live without her. So in one year’s time, they will end their lives on their own terms.

This is a beautiful love story, spanning decades, from WWII to 9/11. But if you are looking for a rom com or a lighthearted book, this isn't it. It is, however, beautifully written and pulls all the emotions with characters that feel so real and relatable. Evelyn struggles with her decisions, she has a fallout with her daughter, the couple experiences the ebbs and flows that all long-married couples do. It's told from the POV of both Evelyn and Joseph, in alternating timelines, so we see how their relationship started and progressed. While the subject matter of death hangs over, I didn't feel it was depressing. Instead, it showed hope in bettering relationships and fulfilling dreams. Fabulous debut - this is definitely an author to watch. I loved her author's note as well.

A couple in their late 70's in Connecticut ponder life without each other. The book recalls their love story and life across the decades. The synopsis of the book was better than the book so that ultimately led to disappointment for me.

The Days I Loved You Most by Amy Neff was an emotional read by a debut author. The depth of the characters and the storyline was mind-blowing, and it was reminiscent to me of The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks. I would have given the book more than five stars if it was an option; it was that good. It had me crying, laughing, connecting, celebrating, cringing, and suffering along with the characters.

Evelyn and Joseph’s story was told in alternating chapters. The timeframe goes from the past—before WWII, to the present and all the years between. They have been friends their whole lives, along with Evelyn’s older brother, Tommy, and Evelyn and Joseph have always loved each other even if they didn’t always say the words. Observing their lives unfold along with their families and how they deal with all that life throws at them was heartwarming and heartbreaking. Communication was key, and they didn’t always seem to be on the same page. Were they really protecting their spouse when they didn’t have certain discussions or relay information regarding something that happened? Their role models were not forthcoming with reasons why things happened, which also shaped them.

Several stories are told, and they are always connected in some fashion. I liked the growth of their three children and how they dealt with their own issues as well as those involving their parents.

Evelyn’s lists and the letters she wrote and shared were interesting. The ending took me by surprise, but it was what I was rooting for and hoping for. I wish the ending had gone on a little longer to get their children’s take on it. Even with all my stomach clenches, sobs, and tears, it was an incredible story that had me invested from the first page to the last. I will be looking for more books by this author.

The Days I Loved You Most is wonderfully written, with depth and richness in the telling of the tale. Vivid descriptions, along with hopes and dreams, kept the story flowing and my emotions engaged. Have those tissues handy!

So much to unpack in this book. It was so heartbreakingly sad at times and full of grief, but so beautiful and hopeful. I think I loved how relatable and raw it was the most. It was a slower moving book but so deep and relatable in many ways, I just really enjoyed it despite how sad it was.

I loved how it told the story of marriage being just as much about the mundane and the imperfect and the difficult, as it is about the romantic and belonging-filled, starry-eyed that we go into it with. Love is both. That, as the book title alludes to, those are the times that prove the deepest love.

The vulnerable view of the characters’ struggles with regrets, the messiness and struggle of parenthood, of wanting to be seen by your spouse, of disappointment and grief, of hoping and pursuing and loving, walking thru sickness. It was all just so raw and honest and relatable.

Thanks to Netgalley for the advanced copy of this book. All opinions are mine.

This book, just like the cover, was absolutely beautiful. Evelyn and Joseph’s story was truly unlike anything I’ve read and I loved this book so much. I knew from the start that this book would absolutely wreck me and it did. After being together for more than sixty years, Evelyn and Joseph have decided to end their lives together in one year after Evelyn has received a tragic diagnosis. That way, they can end their lives on their own terms, and Joseph will not have to live his life without the love of his life. With one year to live, and family and grief to deal with, how will Evelyn and Joseph’s story end?

This book is perfect for fans of The Notebook. I loved how this book was told in multiple POVs and in dual timelines. While this tackles some difficult topics, I loved how this book is a tribute to the power of life and love. I truly cannot believe that this book was a debut novel. I highly recommend this book, but please make sure you have some tissues nearby.

It took me a minute to get into this debut family drama but once I did I couldn't get enough!

Engrossing, heartbreaking and full of emotional depth!! The story starts with an older couple, Evelyn and Joseph, sharing with their adult children their plans to jointly end their lives at the end of the year due to a Parkinson's diagnosis.

Told from alternating POVs from each family member and across six decades, we get to see how the couple met and fall in love in 1941, are tested over the years by war, addiction and the ups and downs they have with each of their children and extended family members.

Excellent on audio narrated by a full cast and perfect for fans of authors like Claire Lombardo and books like The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks. This would make a great book club pick rife with relatable and controversial content sure to spark fruitful discussions.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital copy and @Libro.fm for a complimentary ALC in exchange for my honest review. I look forward to reading what Amy Neff writes next!!

CW: drug addiction, Parkinson's disease, plans for medically assisted suicide

Thank you The Hive and Park Row Books for the gifted copy of this gorgeous book.

First off let me say I do not cry when I read. Like ever. Until now. This book had me SOBBING, but in the very best way.

A captivating, emotional, and absolutely beautiful novel about love, loss, life, and family. From the first chapter until the very end I was fully immersed in this story, the characters, the small town New England setting (local to me!), and the love.

The fact that this is Amy Neff’s debut novel is mind blowing to me. The writing was flawless and just so so stunning. The way she wove the past and present together was so well done. She provided depth for every single character. The family dynamics and relationships were portrayed in such a heartfelt, honest, and realistic way. The emotion… I can’t even say enough about the emotional grip this book had on me. And of course, the love story. The love story of Evelyn and Joseph is one I will not soon forget. Absolute perfection.

Easily one of, if not THE, most beautiful book I’ve ever read. I said what I said. I cannot wait to see what Amy Neff does next, because if this is her debut, I can’t even imagine what’s to come.

Evelyn and Joseph have been married over 60 years. They have 3 grown children and a history of their lives together. Evelyn receives a fatal diagnosis and Joseph realizes he cannot live without her. They decide to end their lives together in one year. As they remember their lives and spend time with their family, the year goes quickly by. This is a book you will need tissues for. I couldn't help think about what I would do. A very thought provoking book. I received an advanced readers copy and all opinions are my own.

I adored this beautiful, emotional and moving read! The love Joseph and Evelyn share is a love story for the ages. It was pure joy to travel with them throughout the decades. The last few chapters were so touching and made me cry. This debut is a shining beacon in the darkest of nights.

I found the premise of this book interesting, and had heard some great advanced feedback.

Unfortunately, this book just wasn't for me. I really struggled to get into it, and fully appreciate the characters and their story.
