Solid thriller with good twists and turns. Follows the lives in alternating pov of three young widows in a support group with a new fourth addition. Each woman has something they are hiding and someone is watching them. This a quick read and decent story would read more from this author. I want to thank NetGalley and Avon Books UK for the arc in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this book. Set in Melbourne, it is the story of 4 young widows who met online in a support group and have now become good friends. The book starts with a man being pushed from a hotel balcony and being drowned in a swimming pool. But how did we get to this situation? That is what the story is about. I really liked the characters and the plot is fast paced and twisty! I recommend this as a cracking good read!
Thanks to NetGalley for a preview copy.
Copied to Goodreads.
I received a complimentary copy of this book "The Young Widows" and all opinions expressed are my own. Lots of twists, turns and many secrets for this thriller, who do you trust? no one. Interesting story line with characters that kept me interested to the end. A bit hard to follow as I know nothing about Australia but overall I thought it was great.
I wasn’t that keen on this book when I first started it but I stuck with it and ended up really enjoying it . I loved the characters and the way the story came together at the end . I would recommend this book and give it 5 stars
A twisty tale of secrets and full of suspense.
An interesting plot idea, 4 young women all grieving but their stories have more depth to them as on the surface they seem like a group of women supporting each other in their darkest time. When those layers are peeled back, this story has you gripped.
Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to review this book, this is my honest opinion.
Grieving but guilty…. Sometimes a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do! I devoured this book in a judgment-free evening!
This was very good, I enjoyed it. I found it a wee bit difficult to get into at first, I kept getting mixed up with the characters. Once I knew who everyone was though, I started to really enjoy it.
At first I wasn't sure how everything connected, but once all the threads came together and everyone's motivations became clear it all made sense!
Very enjoyable domestic thriller.
This book had me gripped from the opening. A man's death told in great detail. But who is he and what has he done.?
We are then introduced to a group of women. The young widows. Each has their own tale to tell. the story of their lives and the husbands they lost. Each one trying to piece there lives back together and to move on. At first look the women are all so different but as the story unfolds you realise they have more in common than you could ever have imagined.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to see an ARC
I found this to be a very entertaining read about four women who have been widowed by their husbands and are trying to deal with life after these major events. They form a group together and meet regularly to support each other. But each of these women have secrets, secrets that they do not even divulge to each other as they do not know how they will then be received.
Kylie has a drinking problem and also a problem of sleeping with too many men and then blacking out and not remembering what has happened to her. Adriana is about to marry for the second time but is he doing it for all the right reasons? Isabel was raped and suffered terrible injuries, she has scarring to one side of her face and also psychological scars. Hannah befriends Isabel so is brought into the group but she also has secrets she is hiding and has revenge on her mind .
The girls catch up regularly and do try to support each other but when so many secrets are being hidden it is hard to support people you do not really know. I read this in the early hours one night when I could not sleep and it did pass the time until I had to get up for work . The story does draw you in and soon you are wrapped up in their stories and what they are all hiding and how is this going to resolve. I really did enjoy it and it was something different than the normal crime books that are my favourite genre. I will look for other books by this author.
Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher for an advanced copy of the book, all opinions are my own.
Really exciting book where you never know who to trust. Every one of this support group is hiding secrets from each other and could those secrets be putting them all in danger. I won’t spoil it but I loved the ending on this book as well. A great read.
Three women facing their demons in different ways in this very original written story.
The chapters alternates between each characters point of view.,filled with lots of tension and builds into what I think is one of the best reveals I've read in a long time.
I'll definitely be looking out for more by this author in the future.

Brilliant story with so many unexpected twists and turns. This kept me hooked in all the way through. Highly recommend.
A really unique premise with original and well written characters who you can't help but become invested in. I loved all the twists and secrets and read this through into thr wee hrs of the morning. A really good read and something a little but different
Three alternating point of views from three widows in different stages of grief. This thriller twists and turns with drama and secrets, captivating readers. An excellent and edgy read set in Melbourne, Australia.
This novel tells the story of three women who have been widowed in the last decade, and became friends after finding each other online and setting up a support group. They are now planning to have a fourth member named Hannah join their ranks.
But there is a lot going on below the surface here too. The story is set in Australia, in Melbourne, where Isabel is haunted by a vicious attack, Kylie is struggling with a drinking problem, and Adrian is afraid to tell the others that she is moving on in her new relationship.
The story is told from alternating view points and draws you in very quickly. There are plenty of secrets that the original members are keeping, and the story telling features twists and turns that make the book not only engaging, but downright gripping. A good choice for thriller readers.
I wasn’t sure where this story was leading. It is quite dark and edgy in places and your mind is taken on quite a journey through the twists and turns of this book. I wasn’t sure about any of the leading players to start with but they grow on you as the story develops. Well worth a read.
The Young Widows by S J Short
A very good thriller set in Melbourne Australia and around the lives of 3 women who were made widows all around a decade ago. They meet up for support and to share life's ups and downs. But what are they not telling each other ?
The writer is clever because we have the story told chapter by chapter told from each woman's perspective.
Lots of twists and intrigue.
The story flowed well and the characters were well developed. I recommend this book and look forward to more from this author.

A real page turning thriller with lots of twists and turns that escalates into a surprise ending.
The female characters are well drawn and easy to relate to and I enjoyed the premise of the young widows group.
The Young Widows are 3 friends from Melbourne ,Australia, who met online and formed a support group to help each other come to terms with the death of their spouses. When the story begins a younger woman,Hannah,is invited to join them. All of the original members have secrets that they're hiding from each other,Kylie with her drink problem and one-night stands,Isabel scarred for life in every way after a vicious attack and Adriana, keeping her engagement and forthcoming wedding secret from her friends for fear of their reaction and possible rejection.
With Adriana realising, as her big day ,approaches that her fiance has his own secrets and Kylie and Isabel on the trail of the men who ruined their lives events reach a dramatic climax.
This is a twisty and involving story as the women confront their demons and seek retribution. It's good to read a book with so many strong female characters, the action and surprises just keep on coming.
An edge of the seat book that won't disappoint.
