Currently only a 3 star as it is only the first 19 chapters. I've read all the others and they are 4 star, this is just warming up. I will wait until I read the whole book and amend my review then.
Now if there was ever an excerpt to tease you into what you know is going to be one hell of a story then this is the one!
I absolutely love this series and adore DS George Cross. His idiosyncrasies and quirky manner just makes me smile throughout.
Alistair Morton, retired Headteacher, is found dead at his cottage. DS Cross is tasked with the investigation but this time without his long suffering partner DS Ottey.
I cannot wait to read the full story, I was gutted when I got to the last sentence and had forgotten it was only an excerpt!
Massive thanks to Netgalley and Aria and Aries for the ARC
I didn’t read the blurb on this correctly and was unaware it was only an extract. I thoroughly enjoyed the part of the novel I read and was somewhat exasperated when it came to an end. As I work with autistic young people the brilliant neurodivergent protagonist added to my enjoyment - and I could see that he was autistic beds the authors’ reveal. Roll on publication date so I can read the rest!
Aaargh! No no no !!!! George Cross has to be my favourite detective, above all others. With his partner Ottey (who is on leave in this book) his place on The Spectrum, a measure of autism and Asperger's, allows his brain to plainly see logical patterns of behaviour not always clear to lesser mortals. This is a thumping good story, however when I requested the book, I was so excited to think I might get a copy that the fact it is just Chapters 1 - 19. I just got to the end of Chapter 19 and feel like my brain is falling off a cliff.
Off to pre-order the book.
I’d like to thank Head of Zeus, Aria & Aries and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read an extract from ‘The Teacher’ written by Tim Sullivan in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Alastair Moreton is in his eighties when he’s found dead at his home with his German Shepherd at his side. DS George Cross from the Avon & Somerset Major Crime Team is called out to investigate and in the absence of his partner DS Josie Ottey is given DI Warner from the Kent force as Senior Investigating Officer. They don’t see eye-to-eye when DI Warner makes an arrest.
‘The Teacher’ is book six of the DS Cross series and I’m grateful to have been given an extract to read. It’s difficult to give an opinion when I have just the beginning of a police thriller but I like how the characters have been portrayed and what I‘ve read I’ve enjoyed enough to want to continue and read the rest of the novel.
Absolutely love the George Cross series of books by Tim Sullivan
George is a character unlike any other and I just love his direct approach to situations and people.
I've been on board with George from the first book written by Tim Sullivan and look forward to the release and publication of each new one.
Having read the extract by way of an ARC this storyline is shaping up nicely and I look forward to being able to complete the book either by way of a further ARC or upon publication in paperback.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me access to this extract in return for honest and unbiased feedback.
I adore the character George Cross and this extract gives a tantalizing glimpse into the new book, but I'd rather read the whole thing rather than having to wait although starting the story again will not be a hardship .
I really struggled to get into this extract properly. It just was not my cup of tea. There were too many characters, which caused a lot of confusion for me and the writing style was difficult to get around. I was intrigued by all the positive feedback from this extract but I was challenged to a great extent to finish reading it
Brilliant as always. George is my very favourite detective, but I can’t give my usual 5 stars for only part of the story!
My thanks to Head of Zeus Aria & Aries for an extended extract via NetGalley of ‘The Teacher’ by Tim Sullivan.
In the last couple of years I have become a firm fan of Sullivan’s series of police procedurals featuring DS George Cross of the Avon and Somerset Major Crime Unit. This extract is from Book 6 due to be published in January 2024.
The case involves the murder of Alistair Moreton, an elderly man living in Crockerne, a village in South West England. He is found dead in his home and while the angle of his neck suggests he fell down the stairs the stab wound on his body tells a different story. Moreton wasn’t well liked and there are plenty of suspects.
As DS Josie Ottey, Cross’ partner, is on personal leave, DCI Ben Carson brings in DI Bobby Warner from Kent Police as a temporary replacement. Warner is a very different kind of detective to Cross and is quite unsympathetic to his Autism Spectrum Condition. In addition, as he outranks Cross he dismisses his input and is keen to close the case as soon as possible despite Cross’ concerns that he is rushing to make an arrest.
My goodness this was quite amazing and as I reached the end of the extract, which was a generous 19 chapters/93 pages, I so wanted to read on. Alas, I shall have to wait until either the entire book is available to request on NetGalley or its publication date.
Based on what I have read in the extract, ‘The Teacher’ is another 5-star read.
I read a sample of this book and was gutted it was only a short snippet! Alistair Morton is found dead in his home and George is on the case albeit not with his usual partner. Ultimately, he is tasked with DI Warner and I am very much looking forward to seeing whose theory is right - team George for me!
As Alistair seems to have a few enemies who could want him dead, the suspect list is plentiful and I am left wanting to find out who has done it and how!
I wasn’t aware there was a series in this title and so I’m definitely going to have a look into more by this author after this snippet!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Tim Sullivan is my favourite author. All of his books are funny, clever, easy to read and this one gives George a new partner and a new challenge. Read everything he writes and the audiobooks are excellent.
I must start by thanking both NetGalley as well as the publisher for my honest review. This was a first for me, receiving only part of a book for a review.
This was only a sample of a novel and l am not comfortable reviewing only a part of a book. What l read l enjoyed, l look forward to reading the full novel and then providing a full review.
First off, I really should have read the write-up first,it was only because I was so excited to be getting to read the next in the series that i didn't notice it was only after the abrupt end that I realsed.
What I did read I thoroughly enjoyed and can't wait to read the full story hopefully very soon.
Thanks to Netgalley and Aria and Aries for the ARC.
One of my favorite authors, Tim Sullivan, mentioned in his latest newsletter, that fans could sign up to read an advance excerpt from his upcoming book, "The Teacher". I couldn't resist the offer because I'm addicted to his excellent mystery novels which focus on Detective Sergeant George Cross. Plus the opportunity to get a headstart on the next installment was too much to resist.
DS Cross differs from most of his colleagues by being on the autism spectrum which gives him an incredibly focused approach to investigating crimes as well as a unique way of interacting with other people. Sullivan's writing skill makes Cross a compelling and sympathetic figure. The mysteries are well plotted and peopled with a believable cast of characters.
So how did I enjoy this latest book in the adventures of DS Cross? I loved it! I can't wait for the book to be released so I read the rest of it and find out what happens next.
I have read The Policeman by Tim Sullivan and absolutely loved it so I was very keen to read this sample.
Retired head teacher Alistair Moreton has been murdered and the hunt is on to find the killer. In this book DS George Cross finds himself working with a different partner than usual, Ben Carson, but this does not detract from the story at all and I did enjoy seeing a glimpse of this new working relationship. I love George Cross's character and he is becoming a favourite the more I read. Of course now I am going to have to go back and read the rest of Tim's books, I am sure I will not be disappointed. After reading this extract I will be eagerly waiting the full book, I am sure it will be as entertaining as this has been. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this extract in exchange for an honest review.
D'S George Cross is fast becoming one of my favourite detectives. Quite different from other detectives being on the autistic spectrum creates an interesting character to read about. He can infuriate his colleagues at times but seems to offer a little bit extra that they don't. As this is an extract I assume we are partly through the latest case and thus look forward to the completion. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to be an ARC.
I didn’t notice this was an extract of the novel so was very surprised when I came to an abrupt end. I’ve read others in this series so was familiar with DS George Cross and his idiosyncrasies. The author is an adept storyteller. I like the series so will look out for the complete novel!
Thank you to NetGalley and Head of Zeus for my advance copy of The Teacher - Extract by Tim Sullivan.
I have just read this, and I want to read the rest of the book right now. Don't know how I will last till January.
One of the best series out now.
Love George Cross
I have only read the extract sent to me by NetGalley and felt very very sorry when I got to the end!!! I definitely wanted to read the whole book! I have particularly enjoyed the characters, and the plot felt complex giving me , the reader, absolutely no clue as to its conclusion! Yes, I will start reading other novels by the author.
I received a complimentary extract of this novel from NetGalley and I am leaving voluntarily an honest review.
