This reminded me a lot oof a Hallmark movie, but in book form.
Ella lost her job and is back home in the town she grew up in. She used to love Christmas, but not anymore. She reconnects with Seth Hamil, a guy she knew from high school who is a widower. While home, Ella reconnects with her Aunt Addie, who volunteers her for the fundraiser auction.
This was a cute Christmas story and anyone who loves the Hallmark channel should read it.
Snow Place Like Home is a very sweet, closed door romance with a wonderful small town feel. If you’re looking for an easy-to-read book with lots of magic and Christmasy feels, be sure and pick this one up. A very wholesome, holiday read.
Who says that Christmas books can be read only in Christmas?
If you reduce the number of mentions of "church", you may actually enjoy this story.
The unrealistic feel of two grown ups, who flirt like teens, aware of entering their rooms respectfully and only in the presence of a grown up is disturbing.
Other than the novel is fine, readable and enjoyable. Nice story about finding yourself, trusting yourself, standing up for yourself.
This is a Christian Christmas small town romance. It was a little heavy handed for my liking, but the town was cute and it read like a hallmark movie. I liked, but didn’t love it.
If you love Hallmark Christmas movies, you're going to love "Snow Place Like Home" by Lacey Baker. In fact, it should be a Hallmark Christmas movie!
This holiday tale weaves together the magic of Christmas, the nostalgia of returning home, and the power of rediscovering love.
The story unfolds as Ella reluctantly returns to her hometown after years of avoiding both home and the festive season. The author masterfully captures Ella's internal struggles, portraying her as a complex character haunted by painful memories. The juxtaposition of her past heartbreaks – the loss of her mother, a broken engagement, and a recent job loss – sets the stage for a compelling narrative.
The unexpected twist in Ella's return lies in her involvement in planning the town's Christmas tree auction alongside her first love, Seth. The chemistry between Ella and Seth is palpable, and Baker skillfully builds on their shared history, making their journey towards reconciliation both believable and heartening.
"Snow Place Like Home" is not just a love story; it's a celebration of community, resilience, and the true spirit of Christmas. The small-town charm of Bellepoint, Pennsylvania, comes to life through vivid descriptions, charming characters, and a festive atmosphere that will make readers wish they were part of this close-knit community.
In "Snow Place Like Home," Lacey Baker delivers a feel-good romance that captures the essence of the holiday spirit. With its endearing characters, charming setting, and a touch of Christmas magic, this novel is a perfect addition to your festive reading list. Embrace the joy of the season and let "Snow Place Like Home" transport you to a world where Christmas wishes have the power to come true.
Snow Place Like Home was such a sweet homecoming story that was perfect for the holidays.
We got to see both Ellie and Seth's POVs and I loved it. While they are two very different characters they show the two different types of life that people go through with one staying in the town they grew up in, and the other moving away to the big city. The care they had for their loved ones though was so nice to see. I also loved how we see Ellie really start to trust in herself more and find happiness in what she does.
While this might be a little Hallmarkish for some, for me it was just the right amount and was just a nice comfort read that will be perfect for the holiday season.
Overall I loved this audiobook, and I hope the author keeps writing books like it!
Snow Place Like Home by Lacey Baker was a 3 star read for me. It was not a bad book by any means, but I had a hard time connecting with the characters. The narration is very good.
Ella has done everything in her power to not return home.. Home is where her painful memories live. She created a life in the city and when she loses her job at an art gallery, she finally returns to see the aunt who raised her after her mother passed away. She get talked into staying longer than she thought and is roped into helping her church with a fundraiser. The person running the fundraiser, Seth, was someone who hurt her in the past. He is now a widow and trying everything in his power to make sure that Ella does not change the fundraiser too much. They are both fairly stubborn and holding onto the past which makes for a bumpy road forward towards new love.
Thank you, NetGalley, for the copy of the audiobook. All opinions are my own. #LaceyBaker #SnowPlaceLikeHome #NetGalley
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. I could not get into this story or connect with the characters and ended up not finishing it.
I just couldn't get into this one. I don't know why but it just didn't click for me. I'll try it again next Christmas though!
I am sorry to say that I gave up reading this book after 12 chapters. Even though I liked the setting of the small town and it had the potential to be a cute story, it's too churchy for my taste and at some point I decided it's just not my cup of tea.
A great narrator on this book. Ella's has had a rough go of things. Shortly after Christmas, and making her special Christmas wish, he mother got sick and died. Then she made another Christmas wish many years later and her long-term boyfriend broke up with her. She assumed she was cursed and these wishes were doing the opposite. When she loses her job due to the museum closing down, she spends her Christmas back with her aunt that adopted her when she was young. A foe from middle and high school is back in town as well and a reluctant friendship is created. This is a great look at finding redemption and forgiveness during a time to celebrate the One who made it possible. An overall uplifting book.
Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Thank you to the publishers, author and NetGalley for the free copy of this audio book.
Good holiday read, I didn't realize it was more of a Christian romance but it wasn't too in your face if that's not what you're into. Just clean, cozy romance for the season. The narrator did a good job.
A cozy romance in which the two main characters dance around their feelings as they pour into a town project. Fun bickering, meddling aunts, and a happy ending.
A sweet romance story that gives all the comfort and joy of the Christmas season. Ella has found herself jobless after the gallery she's been working out closes. Unsure what to do next she finds herself accepting her aunt's invitation to come back home for Christmas. Soon her aunt has her unwillingly involved with the church's Christmas auction and becoming co organizer with Seth, a blast from her past. Seth, a widower, soon finds himself attracted to Ella but her new ways of doing the auction doesn't align with those his wife established. Can the two of them make the auction a success and can both of them work through their grief till maybe their futures can intertwine? A very smooth and sweet Christmas romance story told wonderfully by the audiobook narrator. I'm grateful to the publisher and NetGalley for an audio copy for an honest review.
Incredibly heartwarming! Grief is represented so well within this story and I found the emotions very relatable. It was so easy to want to see these two happy :)
There is just something about a small town romance and Christmas that I can't get enough of! If you love Hallmark movies- you will love Snow Place Like Home.
It is a story about second chances and finding your purpose. Ella is a 30 something professional who looses her job right before Christmas. She heads back to her hometown to visit her aunt over the holidays. Ella wants to use that time to reset and figure out her next steps (with NO intention of falling in love.) One day while out on some errands, she runs into her old high school crush, Seth, and lots of love and romance follows,
I listened to the audiobook and it was beautifully narrated. She did an amazing job showcasing emotion and pulling you into the story.
*Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for sending me and audiobook ARC in exchange for an honest review*
Ella and Seth lived very different lives after high school, but when Ella is forced to return to the town where she grew up after her mother passed, they reconnect. Seth helps Ella to remember that Christmas doesn’t have to be bad. This story was heartwarming, and I loved every minute of it.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! No spoilers. Beyond amazing I enjoyed this audiobook so very much. The characters and storyline were fantastic. The ending I did not see coming Could not put down nor did I want to. Truly Amazing and appreciated the whole story. This is going to be a must listen for many many readers. Maybe even a book club pick.

This was such a cute cozy Christmas story. Baker was able to create the perfect christmassy atmosphere with such a heartfelt story about family, second chances and ultimately love after loss. I enjoyed following Ella and Sean as they navigate through their differences and their past of pain and loss. Loved the setting being in PA and the talk about Philadelphia (I grew up right outside of Philly).

I’m not usually into romances, but this one gave all the Hallmark Christmas movie vibes and I definitely can see this one getting picked up. This was a slow burn romance, where there was some repetition and I think that it could have been shortened a bit. Still enjoyed the story and where it led the characters and the bonds they created along the way.

I listened to this one via audiobook and Trei Taylor was phenomenal. She was able to really transport me into this world. Her voices for characters were great and this was just very well done.

This was a sweet, small town, second chance, dual POV romance. Think Hallmark. Nice cozy, and clean.
Audio: I absolutely loved the audio. It was fresh and there was so much feeling in the performance. 5/5!!
