Description
On a rare trip home for the holidays, Ella may have finally uncovered the secret to a joy-filled future by getting lost in her past.
Ella Wilson has avoided home and the holidays for nearly a decade. For her, the season is plagued by a jinx that’s brought nothing but painful memories: her mother’s death nearly two decades ago, her fiancé’s abandonment last year, and now the loss of her job as an art curator. But without work to occupy her, home is exactly where Ella has ended up. And somehow, she’s also been roped into planning the town’s Christmas tree auction—side by side with her first love.
Seth Hamil knows that home is where the heart is, and for him, it’s always been the sleepy community of Bellepoint, Pennsylvania . . . and for a while in high school that included Ella Wilson. Since then, he’s been married and widowed and has spent the year throwing himself into his career as a music teacher and trying to keep his wife’s memory alive, starting with the church fundraiser she launched to support local kids. So, despite their history, Seth isn’t about to let his wife’s vision for the event be easily dismissed by Ella’s temporary presence and big-city ideas.
To find a way to work together, the two strike a deal: Ella can incorporate her splashy ideas into the auction if she will allow Seth to show her why Christmas is about more than decorations. Soon both begin to wonder whether fate has brought them together for a fresh start—and if Christmas wishes really can come true.

Great book to snuggle up to with a Christmas tree, hot cocoa and nice warm blanket. Really enjoyed this book. Never read this author before but will check out more of this author book. Thank for the audio advance copy of this wonderful. Enjoyed all the characters. Thank you.
A small town Christmas romance mixed with faith foundation. A truly heartwarming tale of a woman who comes back home for the holiday's after losing her job. This story gives the warmth of family, faith and love. It makes you want to curl up next to the fireplace and drink hot cocoa. Ella is such a beautiful character as is Seth and I loved following their turmoil's and love.
It’s been a long time since Ella Wilson has gone home for Christmas, but since she recently lost her job, home is where she’s ended up. She’s also been rounded up to help with one of the Christmas fundraisers with someone she loved years ago.
Seth Hamil has never left his hometown, but a great deal has happened since Ella left years ago. Seth was married, then widowed and is now doing his best to keep his wife’s memory alive. Seth’s somewhat resistant to change when he finds out Ella will be helping with the fundraiser that his late wife began.
Seth and Ella compromise and wonder if the stars aligned to bring them together once again.
Thank you to NetGalley, HarperCollins Christian Publishing and Thomas Nelson Fiction for allowing me to listen to an ARC of this novel. #NetGalley #SnowPlaceLikeHome
I loved this story! The characters were well developed and I couldn’t wait to see what happened next. The story was light and filled with holiday cheer, philanthropy and romance.
Snow Place Like Home is a lovely holiday offering from author Lacey Baker. Past Christmases have brought heartache to art curator Ella Wilson. After making special wishes with her mother on the Christmas Star when she was 11, Ella found herself orphaned a few months later. Although welcomed into her Aunt Addie’s loving arms and home, that experience has tainted this holiday for Ella, especially after her fiancé’s departure just last Christmas. And now the Christmas jinx has struck again with the loss of her position as curator at a small Philadelphia art gallery. With time on her hands and a job search to handle, Ella agrees to return home to Bellepoint, PA, to spend the holidays with her Aunt Addie.
With hopes of bringing her girl home, Addie Gibbs is surprised and elated when Ella agrees to come home. As they negotiate the festivities, especially those centered around her church, Addie does all she can to bring Ella into the forefront. When Addie brings Ella to a meeting to plan the yearly festival of trees auction, her next step is to bring Ella into the planning meeting
with her background in marketing to assist in the strategizing. Ella is hesitant, but Seth Hamil, Ella’s high school crush and widower of Rhonda Hamil who devised this auction to support programs for children, is not in favor of a newcomer that may change Rhonda’s vision.
As Ella and Seth embark on this adventure, and family members root for the two to overcome the sadness of their pasts as they devise their plans for the fundraiser, the reader is pulled along for a beautiful sleigh ride. This is a lovely, richly woven story and perfect for the Christmas season. I very much enjoyed this book and I do recommend it!
Was given this book as an ARC from NetGalley as an audiobook. If you are looking for a book to read during the cozy holiday season, this is it! Seth and Ella both have some traumas to work through so they can heal and learn to love and enjoy life again. The slow burn romance is done very well. I also really enjoyed listening to this narrator. Trei Taylor has a wonderful voice and she narrates several characters very well.
Imagine the sweetest Christmas movie, which also touches on serious topics, like faith, and loss, and makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, but in a book form. I loved this book. The protagonists were likeable, the story wonderful, it gave me some food for thought and faith in happy endings and Christmas magic.
Who would have thought working with a former classmate would be so challenging? Now that they were both grown adults, building a relationship was extremely difficult. They had to create something fresh and move on from the past, and its painful memories. The two come to an agreement: Ella Wilson will auction her extravagant creations if she allows widowed Seth Hamil to demonstrate to her why Christmas is about more than just ornate decorations. Soon both begin to wonder whether fate has brought them together for a fresh start—and if Christmas wishes really can come true.
Talking about their high school experiences, Ella and Seth both understand that things weren't as they appeared. There were a ton of misconceptions. Can they put the memories behind them and work together the way her Aunt Addie wanted? Each person is aware that they have lost a loved one, and they are both grieving. Ella notices that Seth appears to be managing his grief in a constructive manner. They both agree on this and make a commitment to be more open about their feelings.
This is a touching tale about friendship, faith, and forming new connections. I enjoyed how Aunt Addie encouraged reluctant Ella to utilize her skills to help this little town raise the funds required to build and restore a recreation center the community needs.
I appreciate how honest Seth was about his situation; he is still in mourning over the passing of his wife and is making every effort to take care of his dog and his teaching responsibilities. I adored how the entire community came together to host a wonderful Christmas celebration that included gorgeous decorations, a dash of healing, and a beautiful romance!
I listened to the audio book and read the novel. I became fascinated with the way Trei Taylor's narrated this novel. I thought the narrator's voiceovers for several characters were outstanding. The more I listened to the audiobook, the more the narrative touched me personally. I could hear the characters’ frustration, anxiety, and longing as Ella and Seth worked together on the auction to obtain the necessary Christmas trees needed for the celebration. I liked the warmth, delight, and Christmas spirit that this tale evokes. This is a wonderful story to lose yourself in, and one that makes for a fun book club pick.
I really enjoyed this book. It's a great hometown romance. It's seriously such a hallmark feeling book, and I loved every second of it. I recommend this book if you are looking for a sweet Christmas book. Love how the relationship worked out and how the story went.
This Christian Fiction Holiday Romance was perfect. Through faith and perseverance Ella and Seth make Christmas magic. Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins Christian Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Lacey Baker's Snow Place Like Home is a sweet romance novel that will make you smile. It is Christmas time and Ella firmly believes that she is jinxed. Ever since she lost her mama when she was young after making a Christmas wish, she has had a hard time finding the joy of Christmas. When she loses her job and has to head home for the holidays, she is sure it is the jinx at work yet again. Once home, she runs into Seth, her high school crush. Seth is now a grown man, widowed, and as cute as ever. When the two are put together on a committee to raise money for the church, sparks fly as they try to combine their differences of opinion about Christmas. A cute story. I enjoyed it and it was great for this time of year, as we are about to head into Christmas!
Snow Place Like Home is...as warm and spicy as Snickerdoodle Hot Chocolate, as cozy and a pair of fuzzy warm socks, and as beautiful as a brightly decorated holiday tree.
The audio version of this book lulled me into a holiday setting that I really enjoyed The characters were voiced beautifully, I was hooked from the beginning and stayed until the end.
