I requested this from NetGalley because I love Buffy and occasionally read poetry, but this book just wasn't for me. I appreciate what the author was trying to do and the commentary on body image, but I just didn't really like it. There were some formatting and grammar issues that also took me out of the reading experience.
Thank you to NetGalley for giving me a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
Thanks NetGalley, Querencia Press, and Q for this arc!
4/5 stars
I LOOVVEEE Buffy, and this was a really interesting read. I really want to like poetry, but I think it's usually not really my thing, my brain can't get around it well I think lol. But having poems about something I lived and breathed when I was younger really made them hit better for me, and I really enjoyed this!
If you happen to be a big Buffy Fan and a big Poetry Fan I think you'll really like this, If you aren't a fan of both of those then give this a miss.
I haven't watched Buffy but I am a huge poetry fan. I didn't realize how heavily it would be centered on Buffy, but it very much is.
Up until the last 10-ish poems, most of them really weren't my thing.
The illustrations throughout to me didn't really fit with the vibe of the book and they were very simple and kinda boring.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC

I’m a hardcore BtVS fanatic. When I tell you I rushed for this book, I’m not exaggerating.
Poetry style made it interesting. Definitely recommend for any fellow BtVS fanatics out there!
As a Buffy fan, offcourse when I saw the title I literally ran to get the book from netgalley to read!
So Buffy universe poetry sounded like a nice stroll down memory lane.
The poems were interesting, though the poetry style took some time for me to get into. It touched on themes that I could relate to when I was younger, and some that still resonate.
It always amazes me how people create :)
Self loathing, lack of confidence, body dysmorphia and bloody stakes. What else could you need?
This book is freeverse poetry inspired by BTVS but with real life issues.
Do you like what you see in the mirror?
I love Buffy and I enjoy poetry so I was amazed something like this even exists! Kudos for putting the whole thing together, but I ended up just not getting into it. I just couldn't sink my teeth into it...? It wasn't for me, but I'm happy this little book exists.
I received a complimentary copy of this book via Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are my own opinions.
This book of poetry really hit home with me. First, I am a massive Buffy and Spike Fan as I have been for the last 20 years. If it's Buffy-ish, I want it.
Secondly, the poems remind me of all the years I used Buffy as an escape. I am bigger and cam relate to mane if the poems. Really, this book represents my joy and my shame. Switch of the Boot is my favorite poem.
FYI, my brain reads the poems in Drusilla's voice.
I couldn't really get into the poetry style, but I did enjoy the exploration of Buffy through poetry.
This was a fun and easy read, even if at times it did feel like Spike x Y/N fanfiction. As a Buffy fan I loved all the references, even if all the poems weren't my thing.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!
Aa a fan of both poetry and Buffy the Vampire Slayer I really enjoyed reading this collection of poetry!
As a Buffy the Vampire slayer super fan, I just had to read this collection of poetry. The poetry itself deals with questions of body image and romance, and it is an excellent blend of known characters and imagery from the cult classic Buffy the Vampire Slayer, as well as fun house mirrors.
Included throughout the collection is an incredible selection of artwork from Gabby Gilliam, that really brings the poetry to another level.
This collection of poetry is perfect for that very niche group of individuals that enjoy both Buffy the Vampire Slayer and poetry, and I highly recommend you give this a shot if that sounds like you.
Big thanks to Netgalley, Querencia Press, and the author Kim Malinowski, for allowing me to read a copy of this E-Arc.
