I felt that this book was not an original story, very clunky to read and hard to finish.
While I enjoyed the comic relief from the main characters sibling and friend, sadly this book was not for me.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy.
I’ve always loved Denise Hunter’s books. But I thought I knew where this one was headed and that I probably wouldn't love it as much as others. Well, let me tell you – I was wrong!!! It’s not that I didn't know where it was going as much as all that happened between the beginning and the end.
I loved the book and the feels it evoked. I loved learning all about filming a movie and all the many things that went into filming on location. I loved knowing that Denise has had some books turned into movies that that she knew a lot of what she was talking about from first hand experience.
I loved that Chloe was big into being honest above all with Liam. And Liam let Chloe see his real self.
This was a fun book to read. I certainly recommend it!
Thank you to Net Galley for allowing me to read this book. The opinions are entirely my own.
I enjoy Denise Hunter's books and this one did not disappoint, and we are with an author, who's book is being made into a movie.
Author Chloe Anderson's book has been chosen, and she is a little upset about whom was chosen to play the hero of her book, and Liam Hamilton is not what she wants.
This is a story of sweet romance, past broken families, and some sibling problems.
Can opposites attract? Well, maybe they really have more in common that they think?
When a betrayal appears, will these two pretend friends be able to repair the damage? Answers come, and thus the page turner!
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Thomas Nelson, and was not required to give a positive review.
When a movie adaptation is planned for Chloe Anderson's debut novel she can't believe her good fortune. Until, that is, she learns of the actor cast as leading man. He's THE Hollywood bad boy and it's up to her to help clean up his PR issues. She'll have to pretend to be his new love interest. What could go wrong?
Readers who love a fake relationship trope will want to grab a copy.. It's an easy, predictable read which is sometimes the perfect read.
3.5 stars rounded up.
I’ve loved every Denise Hunter book that I’ve read, and when I finish one, I always decide that that one is my favorite. Now Love, Unscripted is my favorite! I adored it! I don’t know about you, but I’ve had plenty of celebrity crushes. My first celebrity crush was Donny Osmond. I was five. Yes, five. Needless to say, Love, Unscripted’s heroine Chloe is living my best life. Though she didn’t have a crush on the star cast as the hero of her novel…
Love, Unscripted is just so charming and gave me all the feelings! Chloe wrote the hero in her book with the characteristics of her perfect man…as if one man could fit her mold. I think we can agree that the best heroes are flawed because that makes them real! Hunter’s characters are so well-written with lots of depth, plenty of good characteristics, and yes, definitely flaws. I could go on and on about how swoon-worthy Liam is, but you’ve got to trust me here and read it!
I just cannot say enough good stuff about this completely captivating novel! It will have you cracking up, and it will have you crying. I realize it’s early in the year, but this is going on my best novels of 2024 list! It will be hard to beat this sweet, clean, small town romance book. I highly, most ardently recommend Love, Unscripted!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
I like the fake relationship genre, so I enjoyed this read. It was a very slow burn romance - another of my favorite reads. Seeing Liam and Chloe navigate their relationship was interesting, felt realistic and had a few twists.
The story was predictable in the best way. The twists were unique. It was great to watch them react to the unexpected things that happened.
I have read a few of Denise Hunters books before and I will continue to read her. This was my first read of this year and I am glad this is how I chose to start my year of reading.
This was another cute and fun read from Denise Hunter!
I thoroughly enjoyed this one and didn't want it to end!.
So very good!
Wonderful, captivating, and cool characters that you will love from the very beginning.
To me, there's no such perfect anyone boyfriend or not, and Liam seems to be the perfect example of not so perfect. Neither is Chloe.
Of course, eventually, they made me fall in love with both of them, and yes, they sometimes made me grin while at the same time I wanted to shake them silly.
A Hallmark movie could be made from this one in my opinion.
The cover is simply gorgeous.
Another 5 star from me for a very entertaining read. I highly recommend.
A beautiful story of forgiveness, self discovery, and learning to trust. Denise Hunter never fails to weave together a story that touches my heart. I know that picking up one of her books will make me feel all the emotions just as this book did. I found myself laughing, crying, and rooting for them to get there happily ever after.
New author Chloe Anderson can’t believe her first book is going to be a movie. That excitement is quickly dimmed when she finds out Hollywood bad boy Liam Hamilton will be playing her beloved hero in the story. After a rocky start to their working relationship, the two decide to put differences aside and work together to make sure the movie is a success. What unfolds is something neither would have predicted. They are both faced with coming to terms with their pasts and facing their futures head on.
This book is a must read! Wonderful characters and so well written that you feel as if you are living it with them. This will definitely be a book I will want to reread later on.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book by the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions expressed are completely my own.
This was another stellar book from Denise Hunter. You can always count on Hunter to write a clean story that pulls you in & has you invested in the characters. The settings she writes are always so perfectly done. This small beach town was the perfect setting for a spring or summer novel.
The fake dating trope is one I always love to read, but this one read a little differently. It didn’t have the usual banter and annoyance between characters in fake dating. Rather, it had a slow build to a natural relationship between the main characters.
While I love fake dating in a story, I don’t love the miscommunication trope…and it doesn’t occur just once in here, but twice. It made it a little harder to root for the characters, but that could just be a personal preference.
The side character were great. I could easily see more novels, or even a novella, written about some of them.
Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson/Harper Collins Christian Publishing for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Be sure to check out this book in March when it releases!
I love Denise Hunter novels, and Love, Unscripted is no exception. I thoroughly enjoyed my time reading this sweet Contemporary Romance. The concept hooked me immediately — I really do love the “A-lister, uber-popular Hero falling for the Regular-Jane Heroine” plotlines. I’m a sucker for stories where the “underdog” wins and, in this case, gets her man. The characters are well crafted, as to be expected with any novel Hunter pens. I really love the dynamic between Chloe and her entire family. Chloe’s family includes her sweet-natured, but strong mother, her incredibly big-hearted, BBQ-loving step-father, and her very protective older brother, Sean. I enjoyed the illustration throughout the novel showcasing how they do family. They banter, they play, they make fun, but they also protect, love fiercely, and support in all things. They are there for each other no matter what, and this is why the family dynamic, for me, is my favorite aspect of this story. As far as the hero goes, Liam is excellent. What an all-around good guy. I really enjoyed the moments told from his perspective the best. Liam has been deeply wounded by family, but also from the whole world. The constant made-up gossip and lies spread about him made me so frustrated. Nowadays, it is the norm to believe blindly whatever MSM and influencers tells us. We have become a Society that judges before ANY evidence is brought forth, and we really love to hate. It’s totally depressing and insanely frustrating. Hunter did a really excellent job of showcasing this current-day issue via Liam’s every day life. It’s actually quite a good reminder for us readers that we should not immediately jump to judge, jury, and executioner simply based on the words of some entity or person claiming to be in the know. As far as Chloe goes, I did struggle with her character. She is a really genuine, sweet person, but she quickly jumps to conclusions without any evidence. And then she can be really mean with her words and actions. Honestly, I saw her as a cautionary tale. We really need to be careful with our assessments of others, with our words, and with our actions. Of course things end well in Love, Unscripted, but real life is not a Romance novel. In real life, our knee-jerk assessments, our careless words, and our harsh actions can cause real damage. We would all be keen to remember this!
Love, Unscripted is a story not to be missed. I loved my time with these characters, and the message to not jump to immediate conclusions will stick with me long after the final page has turned. If you are a fan of well-written, highly engaging Contemporary Romances filled with depth then you will love this book.
I purchased a copy of this novel in eBook form from Amazon.com on August 29, 2023, in order to review. I also received an eBook copy from the publisher, Thomas Nelson, via NetGalley in order to review. In no way has this influenced my review. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.
Thank you NetGalley for the early readers copy. I really enjoyed this story of an authors story being made in to a movie. The relationship between the author, Chloe, and her leading man , Liam, isn’t going well. So will this relationship work it’s self out? Only time will tell. But, I think you will love the story regardless of how it works out. I loved my first Denise Hunter book and I can’t wait for another story.
Love, Unscripted was a cute story! Fake dating plotline, coupled with a movie star and a best selling author. It had a little slow start but once I got into it, it picked up and I thoroughly enjoyed it! It has been a long time since I have read a Denise Hunter, but I won't let it be as long next time!
I love Denise Hunter books and always jump at the chance to read one of her romance novels. I must admit I did not enjoy this one as much as previous books that she has written but I still enjoyed it. The setting takes place in a small Southern tourist town. In her spare time Chloe writes books and the first book she wrote was approved for a movie. She was so excited about her book being made into a movie until she found out who would be playing the male lead. She did not like it that Liam had the reputation of being a ladies man in Hollywood but she accepted him anyway. Circumstances happened that they had to pretend to be girlfriend and boyfriend. It would help his reputation as a ladies man and her involvement would get her followers. The pretending soon became a reality for them.. She soon learned that he was not the ladies man that the tabloids made him out to be. I loved the supporting characters. Her best friend and her brother added some comic relief.

I’ve read a number of Denise Hunter’s romances and love her small town settings, engaging characters, and heartwarming stories. There is family drama, imperfect and realistic characters, and emotion. I enjoyed this book and recommend it as a feel-good and entertaining read.
Very heartwarming, feel good book. I love Denise Hunter’s writing style. It’s warm and genuine. Chloe is an author with a hit with her first novel. It is so good it is picked up to make a movie out of it. The hero in her book is the perfect boyfriend. Every woman’s dream man come to life. Casting for the part of dream boyfriend falls on real life bad boy, Liam. Sparks fly from this point on. This book has it all, romance, trials, wounded and healing of hearts. Wonderful storyline and characters. Would love to see this made into a movie. It would entertain for sure. I was given an advanced reader copy of this very well written book by NetGalley and I am freely sharing my review.

“Believe me, I know it is. But people can’t love you until they know you.
And they can’t know you until you open yourself to them and show them who you are.”
I definitely was drawn to Love, Unscripted for how the cover is so soft that it seems to invite you into its setting, but I was pleasantly surprised that the story was just as sweet. For the last thing twenty-five-year old restaurateur Chloe Culpepper needs is for the one book she's written featuring 'the hero of Chloe’s heart. The man she hoped actually existed in real life, somewhere' to be played by Hollywood's notorious playboy, thirty-two year old Liam Hamilton, in its screen adaptation. 😥 But, when Liam presents his own proposition to her - a fake dating setup that would mutually benefit both their interests - she slowly discovers that sometimes the best kind of love doesn't have to follow a script and that it's even possible the man of her dreams can exist in real-life, too. 🥺🥺
“The studio thinks it’s brilliant. Think about this from your fans’ point of view: Their favorite author is in an exclusive relationship with the hero she penned. As far as publicity goes, what could be better?”
I loved their first meeting! It was so well done, totally setting the vibes of how uncomfortable it would be at first for their tenuous relationship to develop and how they would build up that level of trust to have the chance to make it right. ' For Ledger, for all his fans, for the good of the movie.' Chloe was already so skeptical of Liam's rather flamboyant romantic career that she was hesitant to trust him with Ledger, 'He was a womanizer. If he wasn’t the devil, he was certainly the anti- Ledger!' 😟 And yet, in reality, he was everything but that. Liam was so kind-hearted and warm and receptive of Chloe's desires for her beloved character. He was so very understanding and accommodating to all her demands. 'He enjoyed her company. She was fun and funny and real. In fact, she was fast on her way to becoming one of his favorite people to spend time with.' He began to feel so comfortable in her presence and appreciated the gentleness that seemed to emanate from her - this calming ease he couldn't quite find in Hollywood.
“But their relationship had quickly progressed from business arrangement to friendship and now to so much more. She liked him for him.
The fulfillment of something long denied stirred a place deep inside. He hadn’t realized how desperate he’d been for that validation.”
Liam was a dear; even though 'deep down he wanted to be the kind of man Ledger was', he was already a really great guy. He had a lot of heart to him and he was so very thoughtful of Chloe, so respectful, so eager to be someone special to her - to mean something more than just that handsome hunk hired to play a part. 🥹🥹 The two of them shared some very adorable and cute moments that totally captured Chloe's romantic heart and proved to her what a special catch Liam really was, even allowing herself to be open about herself and her past - something that she's never been comfortable sharing with anyone. ❤️🩹❤️🩹
I did, however, feel Chloe tended to overreact at times; I get that she's still jaded by her own personal past and traumatized with abandonment issues, but it wasn't quite fair to judge Liam so harshly without any basis to it. 🙄 The 3rd act break up relied on once again the miscommunication trope that just seemed contrived and unwarranted. It was unfair how she was always the one turning the tables on him, but Liam was such an understanding and smitten soul that he would find it in his heart to forgive her for her misgivings. I did appreciate though that he never tried to explain or fight her on it, or grovel back to her, asking for forgiveness or a second chance. It showed that Chloe had to grow on her own for their relationship to actually work and I liked that it was depicted that way. 👏🏻👏🏻
“Even her book was squeaky clean— yes, he’d read it after he got the part— and somehow realistic and layered and compelling too.”
It's honestly a very wholesome way to define Denise Hunter's latest novel. It had its share of angst and romance, soft gentle kisses and sincere character growth, while still capturing the beauty of a North Carolina coastal city with vibes that resonate a quaint charm of peace and contentment. ☺️ The writing was very light and simple, but still managed to keep my attention. I liked the coziness of it, the familial vibe and how close-knit everyone was with each other. I would have liked, though, a little more of Chloe's restaurant life to be explored; it is briefly mentioned how her romantic liaison with Liam affected the business with the paparazzi hounds, but it wasn't quite shown, which I thought was unfair. But, apart from that, it was a very comfy and heart-warming romance - not only one that I swooned over, but one that still carried all the wholesome qualities to make it a perfect example of a lovely Hallmark read. 🩷🩷

Chloe Anderson is done with men. There is nobody perfect, except possibly on paper. So she creates this man in a book that becomes so popular it is picked up for a movie deal. But when the actor picked has a reputation of being anything except the perfect boyfriend, she is not pleased. Then to make matters worse, to help out his image they are persuaded to “fake date” and show he is worthy of this role.
While a predictable story, I enjoyed the ride. It’s charming, it’s enemies to lovers, it’s a sweet story. I’ve not been disappointed by Hunter’s books yet!

I really liked this book! Excellent characters all with very relatable flaws. I loved the thermostat game - I’m sure someone is going to latch on to this idea for others - lol! Great, wholesome love story that will leave readers wanting more of Chliam!
I do not think a reader can ever go wrong picking up a Denise Hunter book. Her warmth shines in whatever plot she creates. I love all the characters in this book. The two main characters are often disagreeing and of course when sparks fly, the frustration changes to attraction. Since that is not what either of them wants, as in real life, sometimes the thing you think you do not want is what you really need to be happy and grow.
I enjoyed this gem and definitely recommend to readers who like a great romance plot with sparks, but keeping the story clean, a sweet romance, with plenty of substance with sub-plots.

I have always wondered what it would be like to be an author and have my books turned into a movie. Having said that, and also having known that several of Hunter's books have been turned into movies, I was so excited to pick this up. And while I understand that this a fictional account, I also get the feel for what it must have been like to actual be on set.
Having said that, this book was interesting in more than just an general way. The book follows Chloe, an author whose book is turned into a movie. The story follows her and the movie's main actor, netorious playboy Liam as they nativage a fake relationship for the tabloids. The ruse is simple: She gets exposure to promote the movie and he gets a change to shake off his playboy reputation. But things take a twist when their on-screen relationship turns off-screen.
This was a stunning book that I would recommend to everyone.
