This is a ver detailed guide to using your cellphone camera to create professional photos. The instructions and explanations are writen for non-experts and are easy to follow.
A great book for anyone who wants to become a better photographer using their phone. I'm excited to share the tips I learned with our 4-H club!
Useful guide to use your cellphone as your camera! Loaded with tips for both Iphone and Android, plus info on using popular editing apps. As a longtime Nikon 35mm user, I've been using my iphone more and more instead, and this will be super helpful!
Thank you Netgalley and BooksGoSocial for the ARC!
I received a review copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
The one thing that this book does well is to make you want to spend time with your phone. I appreciated the ideas of changing focal points and taking shadow photos. I also enjoyed having a list of some of the popular photo editing apps. This would be a good book for those who have never done cell phone photography or those who want a few recommendations on apps that they can use to improve photos.
Unfortunately, there was more I disliked than liked about this book.
When I hear the word "mastermind" I'm thinking that the author will go beyond the basics. This book did not go beyond in a lot of key aspects like actually staging and taking photos. The first line in this book is along the lines of "now you have a grid". There is no photo of a grid or what is being referenced until much later in the book. There is a part on taking dark photos that just says "tap your phone" a few times. Not where to tap or how to know if your lighting is being improved, just "tap your phone."
I felt that the more important stuff about photography was skipped over while things like using a selfie stick for group photos is covered in detail. Also, the biggest sections are about using a selfie stick, how to access the collections in your phone and editing apps (where each button in the app is given a brief explaination).
Overall, unfortunately, I think if you have the very basics of cellphone photography down, you will not learn much from this book. Thus my one-star rating.
This is a great book for beginners of cellphone cameras.
The book gives clear instructions on how to use both apple and android camera phones.
For each step, there are pictures showing which buttons to press.
There isn't a lot of technical photography information, so those who can easily use a phone camera may find they don't need most of the first half of the book.
Great for kids or the elderly who need some guidance on using their devices.
This book would be helpful to those just starting out. I have been researching how to take better pictures already so there really wasn’t much new for me.
Readers will find this title to be an insightful journey into the world of smartphone photography. The author meticulously explores the technical nuances, and includes practical examples and exercises that are very engaging. Ensuring that the learning experience is comprehensive and appropriate for photographers of all skill levels. I found the book to have a very visually appealing design, with vibrant illustrations, that only enhance the educational content presented, which made reading it, enjoyable. One of the downsides to this title is that while the author provides a strong foundation for beginners and intermediates, it will fail those readers that might have a desire to dive deeper into more advanced techniques or into a more all- inclusive approach to a particular smartphone model. With that being said, this book will be of value to anyone wishing to get into the realm of mobile photography, by offering a solid guide for readers looking to unleash their creativity through the lens of the camera just waiting in their pocket.
I had a difficult time finishing this book. It’s an extremely basic phone photography book which might useful for those who are not familiar with the functions of their phone’s camera, however, there was no new information in it for me, and I am no pro. There’s instructions on how to access camera settings within the phone’s settings and brief descriptions for photo editing apps. The organization of content is strange; beginning with actually utilizing the phone’s camera and techniques and then jumping to phone settings and camera apps, back to photography skills. The vocabulary is a bit underwhelming, and many of the concepts feel under explained despite the simplicity of the material. It’s not a book I would reference for troubleshooting or suggest for someone who had questions about their phone camera.
A very detailed "how to" book for a subject that I delve into frequently now that cell phones have great cameras. My favorite feature of the book is the use of one subject, like a landscape, to show how a simple change of focal point gives you a new picture and perspective.
This book also shows how to take professional quality pictures with your cell camera and utilizing the many camera settings we usually don't even bother with. I have always felt smart phones (and their cameras) are vastly underused by the majority of people, including this reviewer, and am finding myself learning something new every time I turn a page.
I've done some work on becoming a better photographer, both a Craftsy course and taking advice from talented photographer friends. So I was curious to pick up some more advice. Unfortunately this book was not the place to do it. It fails to explain some basic concepts that it relies on (like the rule of thirds) jumps all over the place and makes nonsensical statements. It felt unedited, and like it was written by an AI, or perhaps someone whose first language is not English and they know their topic too well to actually explain it clearly. This book was neither useful nor entertaining, and I think the kindest thing I can do here is not talk about it any more.
I revcieved an e-arc from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. an
This is a great guide to best utilize your cellphone camera. It provides basic photography tips along with how to best use your standard camera app and additional tools that can be used to edit your cellphone photos. It’s also useful in that it provides details for use of both android and iPhone cameras.
This "how to" manual was very, very basic, but it would be helpful for someone who has no experience with phone cameras, or who might be switching from iPhone to Android or vs. versa. I did appreciate that the author added a chapter for popular editing apps including Photoshop Express, Snapseed, Pixlr, and more. There were even a couple I hadn't heard of like the playful filters in Banuba and Funny Face.
Thanks to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for this introductory eBook.

In a world saturated with images, "Cellphone Photography Mastermind" will help you stand out and create photographs that resonate. There is so much beauty in life through the lens of your mobile device.
"A visual adventure for every smartphone owner."
"Unlock the art of captivating photography with your phone."
"Transform your ordinary photos into extraordinary stories."
"A guide to smartphone photography."
I did not finish reading this book. I found it poorly executed and hard to follow. Right from the beginning pages, when the author states he is going to teach us the "rule of thirds" and then completely skips over what it is. To be followed by his teaching on "grids", which was again incomplete and impossible to understand. And it just kept going, on and on. I would suggest pulling the book back for a complete rewrite, and this time have a qualified person edit it. I won't be leaving this review anywhere else, in order to give the author a chance to improve it.
First of all, thank You Netgalley for the ARC granted. I thought the book was about tips for capturing better pictures, but the narrative is exclusive for the app Afterlight and it's simple and basic instructions, However because the book was pretty quickly read, I got good advice from here, hence the 3 stars. But if You looking for professional and structured narrative, this might not be the book for You. It's just for curious readers and photography enthusiasts.
So I love photography and have stopped carrying my old big bulky camera around as my husband manages to take amazing shots using his phone. As of yet I haven’t managed to do the same so I am hoping the tricks and tools in this book will help me take better photos than my husband in the future.
Pros: I do not take many photographs in my day-to-day life, but that changes when I go on vacation. I've recently changed from taking a DSLR on vacation to using my iPhone to take photos, which I then use to populate a photobook of the trip. I'm not sure if my phone takes the same quality of photo as my DSLR, so I was interested to read this book and learn some tips and tricks to improve my phone camera photos. This book had good practical information for beginners. I appreciated the examples photographs throughout that demonstrated the different lessons and the step-by-step instructions.
Cons: None that I can think of if the right reader picks up this book. I can see how advanced and experienced photographers might find the information a bit basic, but for beginners, this book will be great.
Thank you to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for the opportunity to read this book.
I tried the book using the tips but it wasn't really useful for taking photos of objects at close distance. There's the rule of 3 and everything for scenes and buildings. It would be helpful for some bloggers but not me. Plus the last bit of editing softwares were helpful but they kind not ad-free and not free?
This is ideal for anyone who has a phone and loves to take photos and would like to improve on their shots. Simple, with pictorial examples and guides, and settings- this is useful.
Thanks Netgalley for the eARC.
Short and to the point, this is a nice book for a beginner trying to learn how to get better at phone photography. Some of the advice is targeted specifically towards phone cameras, while some is a bit more on the side of artistic advice, and could be applied to any kind of camera. Don't expect to find exceptionally rare information in there if you're already an expert, but if you're a novice (like my partner, who has a hard time understanding how to setup his camera so the subject is clear, in focus, and well-lit), you should definitely check it out !
