Meet Gwen Griffin, a small-town baker striving to meet her toxic mother's expectations. Her sister, Victoria, is getting married soon so Gwen wants to make everything perfect for her, including the wedding cake! She just needs to find a date for the wedding, so her mother will stop putting her on dating apps after her last break-up. Enter Logan, a handsome wealthy stranger, staying at the house next door to Gwen, to escape his own toxic family. As Logan agrees to be Gwen's fake date at the wedding, they grow closer together.

I love a small-town romance so I really enjoyed this Christmas romance book. One of the things I enjoyed, was that it wasn't just two people falling in love. We got to read about Gwen's self-confidence and self-belief growing as well as her friendships and relationship blossoming. The character development between Logan, not just Gwen, was lovely to read. Together, they became more sure of themselves vs their families' beliefs of them. I definitely recommend it for a cosy holiday read.

One Sweet Holiday is a romcom following the ever overthinking Gwen in the aftermath of a break-up in her hometown that is teeming with small-town level gossip. In an attempt to avoid the chatter and work on healing, she throws herself into her café/bakery and into helping her sister plan the perfect wedding. Determined to keep the focus on her sister as her big day approaches, Gwen decides that she needs a fake date as a plus-one for the wedding to deter any questions about her dating life. Enter Logan Fyfe, the Scottish rich-man renting out the house next door. But things are hard to keep platonic as Gwen spends more time around Logan and he challenges her misconceptions about herself and constantly reminds her that she is worthy of everything just the way she is.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. It was a quick, easy read. I could relate to Gwen as she is very hard on herself and constantly overthinks every situation and I loved not having a character who was just magically perfect at everything without even trying. I also loved her dedication to her sister and her bakery. She just felt real.
Also, I was such a fan of the avoidance of the typical romance layout of 'girl meets boy, feelings occur, some kind of HUGE disaster occurs and everything is on the verge of falling apart, and then everything somehow just perfectly falls into place'. Not every real life relationship has such a dramatic start and it's very overdone in books.

Personally, the insta-love aspect wasn't for me. I like to have the love interest get to know each other a little bit more compared to feeling like they will throw away their whole life 30 seconds after meeting someone. I also was expecting more of a holiday feel considering the title but minus one or two scenes, this book could have been set in a completely different time of year and still made sense.

This was a cute holiday romance. It was a quick and easy read. The characters were relatable and lovable.

I did feel like it was not fluid, it was choppy and switched scenes suddenly, too often. There was also a lot of repetition, enough that there were moments of I had accidentally skipped back some pages and was re-reading pages.

Overall I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to those that enjoy holiday novels.

A story that pulled me in from page 1! While I struggled at times with the self doubt the female lead carries it was a necessary part of her character. The relationship she holds with others to get through her own struggles are heartwarming and something everyone needs and deserves in their lives. A definite must to put on your reading list.

THIS BOOK 😍 Such a great start to my christmas reads this year. The cheeky banter between Gwen and Logan is perfect. I loved how you got to see their relationship grow and how they dealt with life situations. The writing flowed very well and I loved the dual point of view.

This was such a perfect read for this time of year. I absolutely love a Christmas romance and this one was great.
The story follows Gwen who struggles over the Christmas season after a failed engagement but her sister is getting married and Gwen wants to support her.
Gwen is also a baker who struggles to accept help in any form! I just wanted to give her a hug!
Then we meet Logan who has traveled from Scotland for the wedding but also to escape his family.
The two agree to fake date but soon realise their feelings are anything but fake!

The book was well written and easy to follow along. I loved the plot and the story. It was a fairly quick read for me and I finished it in an afternoon.

A Perfect Cozy Christmas read!
I definitely recommend.

I received this book from NetGalley.

Just a few pages in I can already tell that there are going to be some problems in this book. The fact that Gwen didn't tell people why she called off the wedding - even her own mother - seems a bit ridiculous. If someone cheats on you, you're allowed to tell people that they're the reason you didn't get married. I can understand not telling everyone you know but you should be able to tell your mother.

Plus, Gwen is completely judging Theo's friend when all she knows about him is that he's Scottish and rich - says more about her than it does about him.

Also, she admits to herself that she wasn't totally in love with Mark but yet has a panic attack when she sees him with his new fiancé?

Gwen is so worried that everyone will make Victoria's wedding about her and will be worrying about how she's handling things but... Her and Mark have been broken up for over a year - get over it already. She's more likely to make people focus on her.

Gwen is a bit too woe is me for my liking. She keeps going on about how Logan wouldn't be interested in her and he's out of her league when his actions make it clear that he likes her - plus he said it! She's too negative and honestly brings the whole book down because it's constant.

⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5 (Romance)

Synopsis: Gwen Griffin, our FMC, is a coffee shop owner and baker. This December, her little sister, Victoria is getting married. They have lived the small town of Jasmine Falls their entire life. Logan Fyfe, is a Scottish man who was friends with Victoria’s fiancé from study abroad. Logan ends up renting Victoria’s house next door to Gwen’s, and they start to fall in love. Trials and tribulations occur, will they make it in the end?

My Thoughts: I liked this book. I thought at times, it was pushed too hard that Logan was from Scotland, but overall I liked the holiday vibes. Plus I love a small town romance. I liked Gwen’s character arc as someone who talks very negatively about herself and rarely asks for help, I thought it was very apparent that Logan was the right match for her. Overall, I liked the book!

If you love small town or holiday romances, you’ll love this.

Thank you to NetGalley and Lucy Day for providing this rom-com holiday read. Lucy does a great job setting the scene and painting a mental picture with her descriptions. Logan and Gwen are a prime example of opposites attract. I could relate to Gwen because she was hopeful, but she always prepared for the worst. Logan the hot Scot and Gwen the plus-size, small town girl have one of those relationships people strive towards. We get to read the story from both perspectives and see how genuine their feelings are for each other. I normally prefer enemies to lovers, but this was a nice change of pace. I would definitely check out more books by Lucy Day!

Gwen & Logan 🫶 Gwen owns a coffee shop / bakery in her small town. Logan flys from Scotland to the same small town for a month, staying right next door to Gwen. The two hit it off, agree to a little fake dating, and cannot ignore their incredible chemistry.

This swoony holiday rom-com is everything you’ve been looking for! While I’m a fan of open door spice, this closed door / just kisses had so much chemistry, I loved it! Lucy Day is incredibly talented and has gifted us with the sweetest love story. Friends-to-lovers, forced proximity, finding our own way, family pressures, and more. Definitely recommend this if you need a top holiday read!

This book had me at the very first “darling”. Absolute romance perfection! I couldn’t stop smiling reading this, and the butterflies never left my stomach.

Gwen is such a relatable character and she was the perfect leading lady. And Logan…the most swoon worthy male lead, and I loved him with my whole heart! The slow burn was so good with the perfect amount of tension.

One of the strengths of this book was definitely the dialogue. It flowed so well and felt natural throughout the whole story. And a bonus was that there wasn’t really a third act breakup which was a breath of fresh air! Loved it!

This was a cute, fun read! The characters were lovable, and I really enjoyed watching their relationship develop. I could really relate to the FMC -overthinker, can't ask for help-all me! While the relationship grew there was major chemistry between the characters, but it's a clean romance with no spice. There is some family drama in both MC life, but there is enough humor to not weigh the story down at all. I just learned that this is book 3 in the series, and I will definitely be adding those to my TBR pile! Thank you NetGalley, Lucy Day, and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for my honest review!

Publishing date: 6 November 2023
Rating: ★★★.5 → ★★★★
Spice: none

Such a quick, fun, light read. The main characters Gwen and Logan are so similar but from “different worlds”. What I liked about this story was the teasing and banter between the characters and how endearing the nicknames they have for each other. The writing was great, easy to read and the author built the plot really well. I really enjoyed how Logan helped Gwen (with her business and with her confidence) it was lovely to see her believing him more and more instead of letting the little voice win. The parents of both main characters I instantly disliked I hate reading about parents who are awful especially when the kids don’t/aren’t able to defend/stand up for themselves, it just makes me so sad for the characters (which I guess the author is doing their job right then if it gives me feelings).
I didn’t like how her sister was making her do things for her mum even though she knows the bad blood between Gwen and their mother. I’m glad I got to read this story because if your only problem is shitty parents in a book you’re doing something right. I will be for sure checking Lucy’s other books because I do like her writing style a lot.

Thank you NetGalley and Lucy Day for gifting me an ARC for an honest review in return.

One Sweet Holiday is an easy and wholesome read full of likeable and relatable characters. Tropes galore including: instalove, forced proximity and fake dating.

If good intentions were a person, he would be called Logan Fyfe. This is what a green flag of a book boyfriend is.

Gwen is ridiculously relatable - who isn’t an over thinker? Who doesn’t let this over thinking get in the way of life? Who’s a isn’t a ‘yes’ person? Just me? Ok…

This book has basically everything you want: complicated family dynamics, good story, good character development.

At points, the writing felt a little long-winded, but was overall a fun read.

A sweet holiday romance but the story fell flat with a fairly one dimensional male lead. The book also introduced a ton of other elements adding to the drama which either were rarely mentioned after their big moment or never resolved.

Swoon worthy! Oh my, I loved this book so much! It didn't feel like just another holiday book with the same cringe hallmark concept. The characters had beautiful depth and the twist felt natural. It has an actual plot instead of the normal short holiday books. It is a slowww burn but has the happiest of endings.
