I really wanted to like this book because the premise sounded so cute and cozy. However, this book just was not for me. I think a lot of people who enjoy cozy sweet reads will enjoy immensely. For me, though the characters were underdeveloped, the dialogue was a bit weak, and I found myself struggling to turn the page.

In this novella, Caitlin Montgomery travels to Scotland to uncover why her best friend went there without telling her. While trying to discover what’s going on with her friend, she finds romance for herself.

This is a stand alone sequel but I was quite confused within the first chapter. The novella did not adequately explain what was going on with her friend Melissa at the beginning of the book. I thought I might have to quit the story because I didn’t read the first one. However, I kept going and eventually the story focused on Caitlin’s story, which was charming and fun. This is the perfect story about being snowed in at an idyllic location. I would recommend this for anyone looking for a quick winter read.

I loved this second book even more than the first book. This book was fast paced and very exciting! I cannot get enough of the Highlands backdrop setting for this book, absolutely perfect if you ask me. After an accident with her best friend Melissa and Melissas ‘love interest’ she finds herself in a town and stuck in this town mind you, but this may not be all that bad. She meets a man named Angus and these two were absolutely perfect.

Amy throws us twists and turns and a little dash of spice throughout this book to keep you on your toes. All of the characters within this book were very well written, well developed and the story was just wonderful. I loved every single second of this and watching relationships, friendships and chemistry grow throughout. I cannot wait for more to come out from Amy. Her writing is exactly my style of reading. If you want a wintry hallmark vibe type read this is absolutely for you!!!

Thank you @netgalley and @flyingcatuspublishing for the arc in exchange for my honest review.

This was a really cute and fun read. It is, however, another book that I think would have captured and held my attention much more if it was written in first person. I always have a harder time connecting with the third person POV. Other than that, I really enjoyed the book and thought it was a fun holiday read.

This was a fun sequel to "Highlands Christmas." In "Highlands New Year," we meet Colin’s sister Lindsey and Melissa's best friend Caitlin, who end up taking an adventurous trip on their own where they meet two bachelors that they hit it off with. An unanticipated snowstorm strands them all together while Colin and Melissa are stuck at home and new relationships develop.

As with the first one, there's not a lot of character development going on. Think of this more along the lines of a Hallmark movie. But if you enjoy sweet romances, you'll want to check this one out.

Thank you to Amy Quick Parrish, Flying Cactus Publishing, and NetGalley for an advance review copy.

A sweet, charming, and romantic read. Short chapters with a lovely setting in Scotland. This obe was the second book in the series but could be read as a standalone. I haven't read the first one but enjoyed this one. Characters are beautifully written. It's a short book, so it can be read in one setting. Highly Recommended. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the eARC.

This book is a sequel but I was ok reading it not having read the first one. Very sweet hallmark movie vibes and great winter or Holliday read. It’s a quick read and leaves off wanting you to have the next one in the series now!

I think this book lands better when you've read the first. I could not find myself connecting to the characters and the dialogue felt stilted and awkward. I gave up around 20%. A lot of the dialogue from the Scottish characters fell too try-hard (to someone who lived in norther England and still has several Scottish friends) and the American dialogue did a lot more telling than showing.
I will not be rating publically.

Highlands New Year leaves off where the first book ended and follows Melissa's best friend, Caitlin. When Caitlin finds out that Melissa intends to stay in Scotland, Caitlin decides to see for herself that her friend is okay. Caitlin is captivated by the sites in Scotland and when a trip on the ice leaves Colins and Melissa stuck at home, she continues her trip with Colin's sister, Lindsey. After a snowstorm prevents the two from going home, they end up staying in the tiny town in the countryside where they steal the last room in the inn from two locals, Angus and Drew. Caitlin soon finds that her and Angus have a lot more in common than both being from Boston.

Highlands New Year was a fun adventure and although the main focus is on Caitlin, the book continues on with the relationship of Melissa and Collin. Melissa is trying to navigate her options for staying in Scotland and dealing with a possible long-distance relationship with Collin. I was glad to see their story continue, and I am excited to see where their relationship will go after the cliffhanger at the end of this book.

Caitlin is such a fun character and I loved her with Angus. I would like for their story to continue on as well in the next book and maybe a possible relationship with Lindsey and Drew. There is a lot of possibilities with the next book after the surprise ending and I am excited to see what will happen next.

Highlands New Year is out now.

Thank you to NetGalley and Flying Cactus Publishing for the opportunity to review Highlands New Year. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

4 out of 5 ⭐️ for Highlands New Year by Amy Quick Parrish. This was a cute, light romcom and is book 2 of the Highlands Christmas series—with another installment to come.

While Melissa and Colin from Highlands Christmas are part of the book (and I loved hearing how they are faring), this book centers on Caitlin, Melissa’s BFF, and Lindsay, Colin’s sister.

Caitlin comes to the Scottish Highlands to check in on her BFF. As a side trip before they are to meet Melissa and Colin for a Scottish New Year’s celebration, Caitlin and Lindsay take a boat trip on Loch Ness and then get stranded at a small inn due to a snow storm that causes trees to fall and block the roads.

There they encounter the guys from their boat trip, and some sparks fly. I enjoyed the chemistry and interactions among the characters. This was a short and sweet book!

If you are looking for a cozy little meet cute in an adorable setting and you can deal with the author’s writing style, you will enjoy this book. If you like cute romances, but still look for some literary merit, this book probably won’t be what you’re looking for.

I haven’t read any other books in this series and was still able to follow the story line without issue. When one best friend up and moved to Scotland from Boston, her friend decided to meet up with her for a week over the new year.

The story is set near Loch Ness and occurs during a Scottish blizzard. The two friends end up separated and with other people during the blizzard. There is a love story for each of the three main female characters. I just really struggled with the author’s writing style. It seemed forced and there was no flow. It was rather cheesy. Now, some people love this kind of writing and appreciate an easy read. It just wasn’t my favorite.

This was a captivating, cute, cosy and enjoyable sequel to A Highland Christmas that can be read as a stand-alone. This book follows Melissa's friend, Caitlin.
A fun romance at New Years, with Caitlin, Agnus and a Scottish New Year. This was a fun romantic short story and I can’t wait for the next. I would recommend this book to any romance lover.
