I received a complimentary ARC from NetGalley for review.

I think I must have smiled from ear to ear and chuckled a hundred times while reading Liam and Hannah’s story. True to the enemies to lovers and misunderstood childhood crush dynamics, this was a fun and engaging story of two people who found their way to each other and figured out who they really were. I loved the sass and the sweetness all the same.

This was a fun read that reminded me of a cross between Abby Jimenez, Emily Henry and Lucy Score. Well done!

This book has everything I love in a rom-com!

It follows Hannah and Liam. They have know each other since forever and they share a mutual dislike. When she becomes his assistant at his dad's law firm, they're forced to spend a lot of time together— leading Liam to reconsider his feelings, and they grapple with the question of whether love and dislike are closely connected.

This book was addictive, I couldn’t put it down. The banter between Hannah and Liam was everything— I really liked their feisty discussions! Safe to say, I’ll be reading this author’s future releases.

On my way to read the first book in the series right away!

Read if you like:
🖇️ enemies to lovers.
🖇️ brother’s best friend.
🖇️ workplace romance.
🖇️ forced proximity.
🖇️ secret situationship / dating.
🖇️ second chance (ish) romance.

Thank you to the author, NCR Publishing and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. Mostly Loathing You by Nicole Ryan will be coming out on January 26th.

📖: dislike to love, workplace romance, brothers best friend, diverse cast, forced proximity

This is the second book of a series of interconnected standalones!

This book is about Hannah and Liam who have known each other since forever. Liam is a lawyer working at his dad’s company alongside Hannah’s brother. Hannah is an aspiring actor waiting for her chance to star in a broadway show! Hannah starts a temporary job as the assistant for Liam and the rest is history :)

One thing I loved about this book was the dynamic between the characters, the change from bullying to banter to caring so much about each other ❤️‍🩹

Something about him standing up for her on multiple occasions even when they weren’t together yet was just so adorable!!
I loved them as a couple and was obsessed with their dynamic since the start!

You can really see them navigating their past and present in different environments and that makes it really easy to connect to the characters. Quick and easy lighthearted read def recommend!

This was a rough read, one I almost considered DNFing, and if it wasn't for reviewing it on NetGallley I probably wouldn't have. Highest rating I would say it's a 1.5 rounded up to a 2. My main issue is that I hated a ton of it, but there were a few things that made up for it.

Starting with the good, I absolutely loved the look at the dynamic between Hannah and her mom. In a lot of romance we see a ton of supportive, close, loving family structures, and I really appreciated seeing the flip side of that. The level of family where they're constantly negative and rude and hurtful but not SO aggressively so that you want to cut them out or risk not seeing your other family. I loved that dynamic playing out, and kept with the book solely to see how this would develop.

As for everything else? Yikes. It boils down to the fact that Liam and Hannah aren't a cute enemies-to-lovers story, because Liam is just nasty. That arc works when there is a baseline of respect, or when the focus is on teasing and aggregating each other. Liam was mean and cruel and if one of my friends ever told me that they started dating someone who routinely was so awful to them I'd be concerned.

Their relationship also isn't believable at all - it seems like Ryan initially wanted to sell the I hate you but we're hookup friends angle, but because Liam was so mean it doesn't feel believable. They just seem to hate each other too much to actually fall in love, especially since they don't experience enough character growth before falling in love.

And my final big irksome area was the involvement of the workplace. Liam is Hannah's boss. And even before we get to the wildly inappropriate workplace romantic element, he is awful to her in a professional environment. Like at least when they're dating and fooling around at work it's fun or whatever. But prior? He's a walking HR nightmare, you can't emotionally berate your assistant and verbally abuse her. Like within a single day this man would be thrown into sexual harassment training or be put on probation because whether or not she is reporting him, literally anyone within 10 feet of them would. I get that there was supposed to be an instance where the two of them were forced in close proximity, but there were a hundred different ways for them to even be at the same office without him being so awful to her that I would love liked more.

I received a complimentary digital copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Hannah is between acting gigs and takes a job as an assistant at her family friends’ law firm. Only problem is, it turns out she’s assigned to work for Liam, her brother’s mean and insufferable friend. Their animosity goes back years.

It’s dual POV, irritation-to-lovers, and I enjoyed that it included a few flashback chapters so we could see how the disdain started. The only thing I will say is that for being a lawyer, that man has 0 critical thinking skills when it comes to his personal life.

There’s also a thoughtful and kind content warning at the beginning and awesome side characters.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and the author for my advanced digital copy!

This was a good read- I finished it and it kept me entertained until the end, but the characters seemed... wishy-washy and lacked enough depth to make me love the book. For example, at one point in the story the MMC stands up for the FMC against the FMC’s mother, but then chapters later, in conversation with the FMC’s brother, the MMC was all like “it’s not my place to say something” or get involved. What?! On another occasion, the MMC’s father was all like “go get her son”, then chapters later, when the MMC confided his feelings for the FMC to his dad, his dad was all like “what?! Her?”. Cue shock and gasps from the father. The spice was definitely spicy and I may read again. 3.5 ⭐

Thank you to Netgalley and Nicole Ryan for the ARC!

Read if you like:

-enemies to loves

First off, the playlist to this book has become one of my favorites to listen to while reading. Do not let the cover fool you, this book was all kinds of spicy! I enjoyed this book so much and ended up reading it in one sitting! The banter was so good and I fell in love with Hannah immediately. She was very determined in pursuing her dreams which I admired, and Liam was an adorable character despite being such an a-hole at the beginning. I got all the rom-com feels and had me giggling and kicking my feet.

First off I want to thank Netgalley and Nicole Ryan for the chance to read Mostly Loathing You early!

I did DNF this book around the 35% mark, unfortunately while I love enemies to lovers romances, and brothers best friend romances, as well as forced proximity/office place romances, and I did love all of those tropes in this book as well I just couldn’t connect with the characters. Liam was just outright mean, almost as if he was making a sport out of it… with no real reason for being her enemy other than he thought she was a spoiled princess. Yes there were a few soft moments from him, they were to few and far between to really make me care about his character. And I wish I could say Hannah was better and I related to her I really didn’t… while I wont necessarily say she was a spoiled princess because she did have a good work ethic she was just too judgie and self centered for my preferences. And they were both just way to immature for adults in their mid and late 20’s.
So overall while I did enjoy the tropes, and writing of this book and even enjoyed that it was set in ATL, I’m really a character driven reader and since I couldn’t connect with these characters I just couldn’t find myself finishing this book!

Thank you again to Netgalley and Nicole Ryan for the opportunity to read this book!

I loved this so much! I was recommended this book by the author and sent to netgalley for the arc edition and I am so glad I asked for it. It was so funny and cute and my gosh the whole thing was just epic. Super sweet with just a hint of spice. Highly recommend. I couldn't put it down and stay up until 4am reading it.

I enjoyed this. I think they had really good tension and I was just waiting for them to get together. He was a bit of an asshole but he apologizes for the actual bad stuff that he did so it didn't bother me. He just wanted to root for her dreams and see her succeed. I loved seeing him stand up to her mother. Hannah was a good character and I really enjoyed seeing her get the role she deserves at the end. I know there is going to be another book but I wish that we got an actual epilogue.

I received an arc through netgalley.

I really enjoyed, I hadn't read the first book before going in, so had no idea if I'd like Nicole's writing style but I absolutely loved it will definitely be picking up up her other and future books.

I loved both the main characters and how they grow as characters individually and together, especially as you learn more about their history and how long they've been miscommunicating 😂😂

I just loved Hannah and Liam together 😍❤️

Okay this book was so fun to read, and not to mention a quick read, which is exactly what I need these days!

Hannah, the FMC, felt so real to me. She was vibrant and fun to read, but also had her own insecurities. And Liam?! So snarky, but it made his development throughout the book all the more intriguing! I was rooting for them so bad!!!

Throughout this book I was giggling, kicking my feet, squealing- even through the dreaded third-act breakup. I honestly didn't expect to enjoy that part of the book, but the author has a wonderful way of keeping you trapped in the story even through a trope you don't necessarily enjoy!

Definitely excited to read more by Nicole Ryan. :)

Overall, this is a 4/5 for me!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Mostly Loathing You by Nicole Ryan

This was some cute fluff that I needed after the gigantic fantasy books I’ve been reading lately. If you’re okay with the idea of a theater kid being the main character, this one is for you. Since I also like to sing the Hamilton soundtrack in the shower, I had no objections.

The first half of this book I honestly didn’t love. The characters lacked depth and I felt like their bickering just felt quite childish for a couple in their late twenties. It is my humble opinion that nobody at the age of 29 should be doing a body shot, but live and let live I guess.
The second half of this book however 🥵!! There’s like a 10 chapter long spice montage and let me just say…. this straight man knows what he’s doing. An instruction manual, if ever there was one. I also really didn’t like Liam as a character so this helped me understand what the heck homegirl sees in him.

Anyway! This was not my favorite overall, but it’s a cute fluffy romance about people who like to get it on in corporate law offices, so that’s a fun bit of anti-capitalism if you’re interested!
Thank you to NetGalley and NRC Publishing for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.

This book was witty, adorable and a quick read. It is the second book in a series, but i had no problem reading it as a stand alone. I did enjoy the banter, and why did I like Liam so much?! Childhood friends, enemies to lovers, kind of forced proximity, spicy 🌶️ 🌶️ reminds me of a good romcom. Release date set for January 26th! Thanks netgalley for this read.

ENEMIES TO LOVERS. that is all. the banter? incredible. the angst? also great. the MMC was a little too much of an asshole in the beginning but he was still tolerable enough to continue to read. I did find myself laughing a little too hard at times and people looked at me and thought i was crazy, but it was just that funny!

3.75 ⭐️* I'm kind of shocked...

This book is not perfect, by any means, but it surprisingly pulled me out of a reading slump and although there's a lot that shouldn't have worked... it really did. This book really walks the line between too much and just enough to make things angsty, and the author manages to ride that precarious wave and pull through.

What I thought would be my main problem -the fact that the third-act break-up is based on miscommunication/misunderstanding, and it involves OW drama-, and normally would've completely sunk this book for me, was surprisingly great plot-wise and I genuinely liked the way it was handled. I didn't love the family drama, but that's a personal preference. The mommy dearest stuff was awful, which was the point, but my god! What an unbearable woman!

Both main characters were the same kind of impossible, childish and annoying,... and again, it was great! I usually don't enjoy that kind of stuff in my MCs, but the fact that they were both equally annoying to each other made this hilarious.

It's spicy and sweet, and all the good things! I would 100% recommend this if you're looking for an enemies-to-lovers, brother's best friend/family friend romcom.

Thank you so much NetGalley for the eARC!*
This review will be posted on Goodreads shortly!

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this eARC of 'Mostly Loathing You' by Nicole Ryan.

'Mostly Loathing You' is a sort of enemies to lovers lighthearted office romance where she's his assistant. Honestly this was fun and just a lighthearted quick read you can just breeze through and have some fun. There is a smutty element to this read so be warned if you aren't into this kinda thing but it was a fun book. Maybe I'll try another Nicole Ryan in the future.
