Thank you to the author, Sounds True Publishing and NetGalley, for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book for younger readers is a wonderful way to introduce the topic of feelings and emotions. Olive is a typical little girl who has lots of feelings, often at the same time - we loved the way the vibrant illustrations underlined the feelings Olive is having, and sometimes struggling with. Great to talk about how it's okay to experience different types of emotions, sometimes all at once.

Olive All At Once by Mariam Gates is a wonderful picture which would be great to use for SEL with preschoolers and kindergarteners. Olive is a typical little girl who has many different emotions. Sometimes she feels more than one emotion at once. As children experience Olive's different combinations of emotions that she feels during different parts of her life, they learn that it is okay to experience different types of emotions all at once. Alison Hawkins has created very colorful illustrations which children will enjoy while listening to the story.

This is a wonderful socioemotional book that would make a great addition to any home or classroom. Our main character Olive has many feeling and sometimes she struggles to understand them. The narrator patiently talks through each emotion with Olive to help her understand and express her feelings accurately. I think this book provides a wonderful framework for parents trying to teach their kids healthy processing and self expression. I will be purchasing this title for my personal collection! 5 stars

A charming book about all the different feelings we experience.
The book is an amazing introduction to feelings and dealing with big feelings for kids.
I loved how we understand that good or bad. our emotions are a part of who we are. and we should accept ourselves for all that we are, even if they all come *all at once*.

I loved this book! It's about a girl named Olive and her feelings, which can often be conflicting. It is a great way to help kids understand their feelings, which can be confusing , like how they can be both happy and jealous at a birthday party. This is the best children's book about feelings that I've read and I'm looking forward to reading it with my daughter!

Mariam Gates' book talks about an important topic especially for the kids who are growing up. Through the story of Olive, author tries to communicate that it is okay to feel different emotions at different times or even simultaneously. At a young age it can be difficult to understand the feelings and whether it is normal or not. Such book through captivating story and quirky pictures help the educators, teachers, and parents to talk about different emotions which are being felt by their kids and how to deal with them.

A book designed to show the young reader that mixed emotions are regularly a thing, and that it's alright to feel both this way and that at the same time. Olive is happy and jealous at a party, excited and yet scared on day one of school, and so on. The text is fairly distinctive as it goes about this routine message – we have the narrator and the speech bubbles from Olive, and oftentimes Olive is there to correct the narrator, or at least to clarify. It's obvious that could have been dreadful, but I certainly didn't mind it – it adds to the spin on this concept the book has, and makes the text more lively than the straight non-fiction lesson we might have got. This still isn't the ultimate, compellingly plotted book that demands being taken off the shelf, but if you think a child would gain from these pages they aren't going to dismiss them from lack of appeal, making this much more suitable an option than several alternatives. A healthy four stars, then.

A fantastic addition to any picture book collection, this little book normalizes the way in which a single moment can provoke many different emotions. As Olive moves through her adventure the narrative gradually shifts from an either/or format to a both/and format, while visual coding of colorful emotions swirled together provides another way for young readers to understand that feelings can be a bit messy. While this would be a fantastic story time read aloud paired with something like My Many Colored Days (by Dr Seuss) and a messy color craft, the story touches on important milestones in any young child's life like the beginning of a new school year or the arrival of a new sibling making it a wonderful all round read for libraries serving young patrons and their caregivers. Thank you to NetGalley for access to this arc!

Olive is a relatable and adorable character and we learn that she experiences different emotions and feelings in a day, in different settings and under different circumstances like all kids/everyone else.
The book approaches this fact in a cute and non-preachy way.
What stood out was Olive’s expressions and her own telling of how she feels.

In this book Olive has feelings. There’s an omniscient narrator, telling the reader what’s going on and olive interrupts them to say you don’t have it exactly right. In theory this book works, but I found it to be long. I feel the book entirely squiggly. I think this concept was way better illustrated by the movie inside out. This book is OK but it’s been done better other places.

Olive all at once is a beautiful children’s book about how we can often feel different emotions, all at once.

We loved the interplay between Olive and the narrator as they articulated olives ‘Jumbled’ feelings. It was an insightful way to coach around expressing and accepting mixed emotions, which is a great lesson for children and adults alike!

This is a lovely book to foster emotional intelligence and resilience in children, and a great lesson for them to share with their grownups. The illustrations are warm, bright, reassuring and add a strong sense of confidence, validation and normalisation to the story.
