These were great and easy-to-make snacks; perfect for the carb-conscious eater. They were easy to follow and tasted great as well.
These are very creative low carb snacks. With that said, this is aimed for a low carb diet and might not be suitable for all other diets.
This is a very helpful cookbook to have for people who are on keto or just watching their carbs. There are six different sections: The Basics, School and Work Snacks, At-Home Snacks, On-the-go Snacks, Sippable Snacks, and Safe Snacking. Safe Snacking has nut-free, dairy-free, and egg-free options. It’s also helpful that if you have any allergies there is a little icon guide to look out for on the top of the recipes. As a bonus the nutritional facts are all there as well.
The Basics section contains homemade nut butters and sugar-free chocolates that can also go towards fat bombs. This section contains thirteen simple to prepare basics like almond and cashew butter and two recipes for homemade chocolate. The ingredients were not something that would be hard to find in the grocery store. I think the hardest might be granulated erythritol or swerve, but I found them at my local H-E-B. School and Work Snacks have ten different recipes ranging from baked chicken nuggets to chorizo and avocado fat bombs. I did try the cauliflower pizza bites and although it was messy to make they came out very good. I think that if you don’t like some of the ingredients you can substitute for something else similar. For example, I did not have goat cheese so I ended up using feta. It was a little drier but it worked and was delicious. I think I can do better next time.
The At-Home Snacks section has eleven recipes and are basically appetizers. My favorites from this section were the Waldorf salad fat bombs and the zesty walnut brussels sprouts. The On-the-Go Snacks section is for convenience and commutes and has ten recipes. This was also the most fun of the sections with two muffin recipes and almond bliss bars that looked like almond joy candy. The section with the most recipes is the Safe Snacking section with fifteen recipes, six of which were keto friendly fat bombs.
These were all pretty straight forward to follow and the pictures of each snack definitely help with choosing which one to try first. I only tried a few but the recipes were surprisingly easy to make for someone who isn't in the kitchen a lot.
Special thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group-Harvard Common Press, New Shoes Press for sharing this book with me in exchange for my honest review.
Diving into "Quick and Easy Low Carb Snacks: 75 Delicious Keto and Paleo Treats for Fat-Burning and Great Nutrition" by Martina Slajerova and Dana Carpender has been a delightful journey into the realm of nutritious and satisfying snacking.

A personal favourite section would have to be homemade nut butters and smoothies, offering a treasure trove of ideas for those on the go. As someone constantly searching for quick and nutritious smoothie recipes, this section was a welcome addition to my culinary repertoire.

What's not to like about low carb snacks, especially when dieting.
I can't wait to dig in .
4.5 ⭐️
There are some really yummy looking snacks in here. Stuff to indulge on like muffins, dips, snack bars, cookies, smoothies, coffees, truffles, fat bombs and homemade chocolates and nut butters.
Each recipe includes allergen warning icons, a clear list of ingredients with respective measurements, nutritional facts, yield, how long it keeps, and almost all include a visual professional image.
I’m excited to try some of these, like the chocolate avocado truffles! I already have or use many of these ingredients after having cut out sugars years ago and am always looking for new ideas to curb my hankerings.
I can’t speak to whether or not these recipes are “quick and easy” but they seem to be reasonable. I think it will vary by snack, but nothing homemade is going to be as quick as a ready-to-eat store-bought snack stuffed full of sugar and preservatives 🫣
Thank you to NetGalley, Quarto Publishing Group, and authors Martina Slajerova, Landria Voigt C.H.H.C., and Dana Carpender for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Let me start by saying there quite a few snack recipes I’d like to try in this book to name a few there are several types of butter similar to peanut butter but different options. Almond & cashew butter, chocolate chip cookie butter, white chocolate, homemade dark chocolate three ways, chocolate-Hazelnut butter. There is school and work snacks like sun-dried tomato chicken sliders, bacon & egg maple muffins, & pumpkin chocolate chip muffins. Home snacks I was interested in was kale salad & vanilla-keto ice cream. On the go snacks ranged from crispy maple granola, chocolate chip muffins, peanut butter cookies, & blonde snack bars. I especially liked the sippable snacks creamy dark chocolate, creamy white hot chocolate, creamy keto coffee, fat-burning smothie, & raspberry/vanilla smoothie. I love that the book has icons for people with allergies if a recipe is dairy-free, egg-free, and/or nut-free it will have a specific icon. My least favorite thing is that a lot of these recipes use coconut. If it’s not coconut flour it might be coconut oil or milk. I don’t like coconut so I will have to find a substitute for these recipes,
I am turning 40 this year and it gets harder to find recipes that satisfy those cravings that doesn't affect your waist line.
This book is perfect for this, I love it.
Keto, low carb, and low sugar eating is still relatively new for me. I found my usual eating habits caused slow yet steady weight gain once I crossed over from my 30’s to my 40’s. Having tried my previously successful weight loss strategies left me actually gaining weight!
Enter keto! A friend had found herself in the same position and shared her tips with me. She was losing weight while eating LOTS of great foods! I tried some of them out and wow - weight started coming off again!
I was super excited to see this keto cookbook as I’m now looking to take keto to the next level. I consider myself very much a novice and feel this cookbook contains recipes that are both easy to follow and yummy! I think this is a great book to pick up for beginners and experts alike!
This is the first cookbook I’ve reviewed and I have to say, it was such a fun change and something I’m looking forward to doing more frequently!
Thanks to NetGalley and. Publisher for this arc.
I was sooo surprised to find actually a bunch of recipes I wanted to try. I’m a veryyy picky eater so it’s very high praise from me to say I enjoyed far more recipes in this book thank I expected to.
Quick and Easy Low Carb Snacks by Martina Slajerova and Dana Carpenter is just that...the recipes are very simple to follow and create. The photography is luscious! These are not ordinary snacks merely for the sake of snacking; they are mindfully written with specific nutrition requirements and information adjacent to each recipe. Many of us use ingredients and/or ideas from other sources to come up with our own versions. The 75 recipes here have plenty of scope for creativity.
Due to celiac disease and chronic illness I must closely adhere to gluten free and keto lifestyle. As such, I am constantly seeking fresh inspiration for snacks. Many recipes here are variations of old and current favourites but there are also brand spanking new recipes.
Not only do we learn tidbits such as 25% of our food comes from snacks but also the benefits of mindful snacking.
This is one of those cookbooks I could open at random, close my eyes and point to a recipe and enjoy it moments later. I would make about 90% of them and will start with Chocolate-Hazelnut Butter, Herbed Cheese Fat Bombs, Zesty Walnut Brussels Sprouts (what a great side dish, too), Cauliflower Hummus paired with Favourite Crackers, Chile-Lime Peanuts, Raspberry and Vanilla Smoothie and Toasted Coconut Cups.
Beginners and experienced cooks alike will have lightbulb moments perusing this short book and happily add recipes to their repertoire.
My sincere thank you to Quarto Publishing Group - Harvard Common Press and NetGalley for providing me with an early digital copy of this mouthwatering book.
Quick and Easy Low Carb Snacks does exactly what it says on the tin - I was impressed by the quantity of recipes in here and I will certainly try a few of them. There are enough decent recipes that there's something here for everyone.
Thanks to Martina Slajerova, Dana Carpenter, NetGalley, and Quarto Publishing Group for this copy.
Recipes are in chapters on The Basics (nut butters and sugar free chocolates), School and Work Snacks, At-Home Snacks, On-the-go Snacks, Sippable Snacks, and Safe Snacking (allergy free recipes). The place-based chapters really seem subjective, so I would have preferred splitting things more by ingredient or recipes style or something. The school and work chapter has multiple recipes for meat-based items that need to be cooked, for example, with no reheating instructions, so the classifications in this chapter seems more based on foods that give energy and focus and are nut free and therefore safe for public places. Then the at home chapter is about snacks that won't ruin dinner and includes lots of veggies based items.
Some but not all of the recipes had photos, and they did have allergy indicators and nutrition info.
Overall, this book really seems to be written specifically for those who are fully devoted to Keto or Paleo diets, not just someone wanting lower carb options.
TLDR: While I am not sure that I consider all of these quick or easy, there are recipes worth trying if you want some healthy snack alternatives.
First of all I do not eat a keto diet nor am I gluten free. I picked up this cookbook because I am looking for easy low calorie snacks. I think anyone on keto or who is gluten free could find some good snacks in here. For my purposes, there are some recipes I will try and some that are just too high calorie. It's easy to pick and choose because a ton of nutritional information is provided with each recipe.
I don't consider a lot of these recipes quick or easy. Having to pre-make your own nut butter is not quick or easy and requires special equipment. That being said if you find a nut butter that you can just purchase that has the preferred ingredients then maybe the recipes will be quick. But honestly maybe it's worth my time to make my own chocolate hazelnut butter... The equipment to do so at all or with any ease will probably be very expensive (looking at you Vitamix).
Ingredients are straightforward and easy to find for the most part. There all a few recipes that call for things I'd have to visit my local co-op to find. Artificial sugars are used in some of the recipes. If you don't care for artificial sugars some of the recipes won't work for you at all. Or they won't be sugar-free and low carb anyway. But there were plenty of recipes were no artificial sweetener was used.
While I don't know if this book delivered on the promise in the title, I do think you could find some healthy (healthier) snack options in this book.
As someone who has a boyfriend who goes Keto for 6 months of the year, this book is great to find food we both can enjoy!
I am always on the lookout for more recipe ideas that won't derail my diet. I was pleased with the selection of ideas in this book. The sundried tomato chicken sliders are the first recipe I am going to try. Simple recipes, easy list of readily available ingredients. I can see myself making many of these tasty treats!
Quick and Easy Low Carb Snacks is an interesting low carb cookbook with some unique and fun recipes. There are recipes for smoothies, bite sized snacks, muffins, and much more! And all are low carb! #QuickAndEasyLowCarbSnacks #QuartoPublishing
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
I think this book is geared more towards people doing KETO as opposed to someone who is more casually looking for recipes that are low carb and therefore I am not super sure that I am the intended audience. I say this because one of my biggest critics of this book is that I personally would not classify most of the recipes in the book as snacks. Maybe people doing KETO have a broader sense of that word so this might be a me thing and opposed to an issue with the book but I do find that marketing to be a bit weird.
Overall, I think there is a good verity of recipes and they are fairly simple to make. The instructions are clear and easy to understand. There were a number of ingredients used that I don't normally have in my pantry ( this is another area that made it feel a bit more geared toward a KETO audience) but the good thing is that those recipes tend to be used in a few different recipes in the book so you aren't going out and buying something just for a one time use.
Also, I feel like it should be noted that a large percentage of these recipes require the use of a blender or food processor. I know that for some people, knowing you will have to wash the blender/food processor takes away from the easy-ness.
I have been following Keto for about a year now, and one of the first recipe books I purchased was by this author, so I was keen to try out this new book as well.
There are many delicious recipes to try out - some a bit unusual and others old favourites. My top recipe was the bacon and avo fat bombs - simply delicious!
The steps are easy to follow and the ingredients are easy to find, so a good book to help you make healthier snack choices.
It is surprising that nearly a quarter of our total energy intake comes from snacks. For something that contributes to our diet as much as breakfast, lunch, and dinner do and with many snacks consumed today skew toward the prepackaged and processed kinds that are high in refined sugars but are low in nutrition, it is unsurprising therefore that there are issues in controlling our waistlines. Snacks are essential for getting the proper amount of nutrients and keeping us energised during busy days at work, school, and the gym so having the option to provide this in a more healthy way is beneficial.
This book contained plenty of snacking options that are relatively easy to make, the only difficulty is in the access to some of the ingredients, almond meal or cashew flour is not regularly found on the average supermarket shelves so access to a good health food shop would be a must to source these. I really liked that there were storage information included so you didn’t feel that you were wasting food. Overall a book that I feel I would dip into for snack options that are better for me that the bits in the supermarket.
