Lucky Charm is the first book that I have read by Anne-Marie Meyer and it won’t be the last. It is a fake dating romance story about an NFL player and singer. Stone has always had a thing for Emerson but she was off limits because she was his best friend’s sister. It has been years since they have seen each other, but neither one of them has been able to forget the other. What will happen when fate steps in and puts them back in each other’s lives? Read Lucky Charm to find out.
Lucky Charm is a quick and easy read. I loved reading Stone and Emerson’s story and can’t wait for more by this author.
The dynamic that Stone and Emerson have is apparent from the beginning. The second chance, brother's ex best friend trope is worth exploring, since we so often get brother's best friends. However that leads me to mention that I truly wish the topic of conversation regarding Emerson's family, where they are now and the relationship she has with them would have been dissected. Even the topic of why Stone left without a word. I appreciated the snippets of each of their points of views from their memories but I think it would have been the full circle aspect to have a scene where they literally catch up on life over the last x amount of year while living their separate lives.
However that doesn't change that I still thoroughly enjoyed their reconnection and the way they fought their feelings so hard.
I loved the reality of their scenario, how they really are just truing to live their daily lives and get by.
The way Stone falls so hard for Emerson made me swoon and I couldn't get enough.
This was my first read from this author and I loved Stone and Emerson’s story.
They share a complicated history with family obstacles thrown in the way of their HEA. It’s a fake relationship story that’s definitely sweeter than I usually read but I really enjoyed it. Plenty of emotions and a beautiful HEA.
Full disclosure: I did receive this book via NetGalley as well as an autographed copy from the author in a PR box.
The premise of this book is SUPER cute. I was stoked to get to read it, and even more stoked when the publisher asked if I would be interested in a PR box (my first ever). I wanted to love this book...and at points, I truly did. But overall, I felt like the book left a lot of things unanswered, and could have been fleshed out so much more than it was. I read it on my Kindle - I was out and about so that was easier than the physical book - and it took until 63% for the "fake dating" scenario to even begin to be talked about. We only hear about or from the FMC's parents (specifically her Mom) ONE time...and yet, this is supposed to be a big reason why they can't be together?
Other questions I felt were unanswered included: Why don't we hear ANYTHING about her dad or her brother? Even with their toxic relationship, I'd expect some kind of convo. When Emerson makes it "big"...none of her family reach out? Did she go no contact? I was SHOOK that Stone wasn't there for Emerson's first big concert - you're telling me they couldn't have scheduled it around his game? It felt like the relationship went from zero to a hundred QUICK. As far as I remember, Stone went to one performance of Emerson's, and she went to one of his games...and that's it. Then, out of nowhere, she's telling him she loves him????
The romance in this story had such possibilities...and I would have loved for this story to be longer, and really do it justice. I'm still going to root for Emerson and Stone, but I wanted more for them.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for giving me the chance to read this ARC in exchange for my honest review. I wish my rating could have been better!
I requested this book on NetGalley after being drawn in by the cover and then I read what it was about and I thought it sounded so good! I was not disappointed I absolutely loved this story and Emerson and Stone! I loved that they both have loved each other since high school. When they started “fake” dating I was squealing and giggling at all the little things Stone was doing for Emerson! The only thing I didn’t care for in the book was that every time someone had a rough day or was feeling rejected they turned to alcohol and drinking. Other than that I loved the story and I seen the whole book playing out in my head as I was reading it. It does have some trigger warning so check those but I would recommend this book, it was a cute story and I had a good time reading it. I also forgot to mention I found out after finishing the book that she wrote this book after being inspired by Taylor Swift and Taylor Swift’s boyfriend (Do we know his name yet?).
This was a sweet little romance novel between a musician and a football player.
This was a very quick and easy read! It was a perfect palette cleanser between other books that are more involved. This book has a fake relationship and relies pretty heavily on the miscommunication trope. The only issue I had was that my brain couldn't compute the layout of the apartment and it totally pulled me out of the book because I was trying to figure it out. 😅
Thanks Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review! #luckycharmbook
This was my first story by Anne Marie Meyer and I really enjoyed this sweet story. Emerson and Stone have had a crush on each other since high school and Stone offers to help Emerson catch the attention of a music producer in Nashville. This was a cute story that was a quick read. I would definitely read something else by Anne Marie Meyer!
I read Lucky Charm as an ARC from NetGalley. The two main characters, Emerson and Stone, know each other from childhood when Stone was best friends with Emerson's brother. Unfortunately, Stone got noticed by football recruiters while his friend did not. After that, Emerson's parents and brother stopped speaking to Stone all together. Now Emerson finds herself in the same town as Stone, literally living across the hall from each other. They agree to a fake dating scheme to help Emerson further her career.
On its premise, I thought I would like this book but it had too many tropes squeezed into a fairly short novel. There were childhood crushes, brother's best friend, pro athlete and "normal" girl-next-door, neighbors, fake dating, disapproving family, and stalkers. I would have DNFd it if I didn't need to do a review. Here's what I disliked:
-I hated how Emerson's family just abandoned Stone once Stone won a scholarship. What sh*tty people.
-When Emerson's friend Tilly senses the tension on move-in day, I hated how Tilly set them up on a date without knowing why Emerson was so uncomfortable around Stone. And for Tilly to suggest the fake romance scheme also bothered me? Does Tilly not believe in her best friend? Also, there's nothing in it for Stone. In most fake dating romances, there's something in it for both parties. It's a win-win for everyone. Then both Emerson and Stone proceed to go on dates with other people. If Stone is in the limelight that much, they wouldn't have been able to sell their new relationship if they're immediately seen stepping out with other people.
-I thought the stalker plot was half-assed. It also painted Emerson as very naive and needing a white knight to save her. The author put a big emphasis on Brett taking Emerson's guitar case for her and creeping around her apartment, but nothing came of it, other than him making an inappropriate come-on.
-When it's revealed that Brett sponsored the rent for Emerson's apartment, it made me dislike Tilly more. What kind of a best friend wouldn't look into an anonymous donation of thousands and thousands of dollars? It would've been a better twist if it had been Stone's support all along.
-I don't understand why Emerson loved Stone and vice versa. There wasn't enough of a backstory and neither of them had enough character development for it to hold weight. Knowing who they were as people and how they overcame obstacles in their lives would've helped. Instead, it seemed like Stone had his grandma and Emerson had Stone to build her career. Who were they as people without their white knights?
-The shamrock lucky charm could've been played up more, almost like the dollar bill in Serendipity. It just fell short.
-Overall, I would've loved to see Emerson win a record deal of her own accord and beat her stalker on her own. I would've loved to also see her stick up for Stone more against her family. The tension with Emerson's family could've been the 3rd act conflict. We didn't need the stalker at all.
I would not recommend this book.
This is my second Anne-Marie Meyer book and I was not disappointed.
Lucky Charm is a football player x aspiring singer romance with a sprinkle of miscommunication, fake dating, and A LITTLE Romeo x Juliet feel. If you're not familiar with Anne-Marie Meyer, her books are usually quick reads and sweet. There is no spice but the story doesn't need it.
Stone is a professional football player with a troubled past. It seems like he's moving on with his life when Emerson comes back as a friend he knew from his childhood. They try their best to stay away from each other but seeing as they are neighbors it's hard to avoid altogether. Emerson is new to the Nashville music scene and in order to get her name out they agree to have her fake-date the hot shot NFL star.
SPOILER AHEAD:
I do have to say I saw right through Brett and I was just waiting for the shoe to drop. He gave me creeper vibes since he arrived on the scene.
Overall, I enjoyed the story. I would've personally liked a little more from Em's parents or from Priscilla just to add to the drama. However, it didn't take away from the enjoyment while reading it.
This is my first Anne-Marie Meyer book and it has been a fantastic one!
The premise of this book was inspired by Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. I love the two of them, so I figured I’d love this book! And I was right!
Stone and Emerson are the definition of mutual pining, in the best possible way. The pair have always harbored feelings for one another, but there was always something just there stopping them. This book was cute, and had one of my favorite tropes: fake dating.
I will say the miscommunication trope is used a little too heavily here. It’s my least favorite in any book, so I might be a little critical in saying that. Overall though, it didn’t take away from how cute and fun this book was.
An easy read and cements Anne-Marie Meyer in my must buy author list!
Thank you to publisher & Netgalley for the arc!
Sports is huge right now especially football and boy a man like Stone Walker is one wide receiver you don't want to miss right now. Then we have a musician like Emerson King with big dreams and a big heart. These were best friends but all it takes is one lie and betrayal to change everything. Being with the Kings was the only real family Stone ever had and seeing Emerson all over again reminds him of what he really lost all those years ago. Emerson has always been his true love and he has always been herself but friendship with her brother was big for him. Seeing them reunite is beautiful and the charms truly magical in their own way. Stone means well and seeing Emerson just shows how right they are still for each other even if she denies it there is no doubting how much they love each other. This new one by Anne-Marie Meyer not only shows her talent, imagination and magic with a sweet romance full of real love was just wow. Loved it and seeing Emerson just not get a chance and hope of making it big finding her soulmate was a great icing on the whole book with Stone. Loved it.
"I received an eBook copy from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own.
This was the first book I have read by Anne-Marie Meyer and I am definitely hooked!! I knew this book was going to be good when I saw the dedication say to Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift thank you for the dedication. This was a cute story about Emerson and Stone. They knew each other in the past but some things happened and they didn't see each other for years. We get to know Emerson and Stone throughout this book. I thought the characters were well written. I also love Emerson's friend Tilly. She seems like the perfect best friend! This was an easy read and Anne-Marie Meyer kept me entertained through the whole book. I would highly recommend this book!
Thank you NetGalley and Sweet Escape Publishing, LLC for allowing me to read this ARC for my honest opinion.
🍀 The dedication says it all. Just read that and you’ll have your expectations met if not more
Listen, I’m not that much of a swiftie but I do enjoy her songs and stuff and I really like her and Travis together. I know it’s still too soon to judge but I feel like he actually treats her like the woman she is actually deserves to be treated. This book felt exactly like that .. so I really enjoyed it
I love a good fake dating book so I really enjoyed the bringing up of this trope. The spice level is next to none, but I didn’t mind it because it was such a cute book. I feel like if there was spice, I wouldn’t have given this book 5 stars, it just wouldn’t have hit the vibes. Everything about felt just right
I liked Stone’s teammates and how they all gang up on him and start teasing him about girls and how they start snapping at him when they think he messed up with Emerson. Tilly is no better either. I loved her character so much. Her endless support from all ends was just really nice to read about
The twist in the plot at the end, honestly, I didn’t see it coming. I liked how things fell into place and how Stone “handled” that situation 🤤🤤
It was a very cute quirky book. I liked the plot. The chapters were short and fast paced and I feel like all of this Miss Anne-Marie’s books are just easy to read. This is the second book I read by this author. I will be posting reviews soon
Thank you for this opportunity 🤍
This was an easy light read. An enjoyable romance with 2 really well written leads and an interesting story. Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for giving me access to an early copy of this book.
Lucky Charm was a cute, and quick read. I really liked the storyline, I felt like I needed a bit more from her family. I just didn’t like how it played out or how she didn’t ever really know the whole story. However, Emerson and Stone were cute. I loved his interactions with his teammates and his gran! I also felt like the Brett situation ended abruptly. The epilogue was perfect and I really enjoyed the option of a clean or spicy bonus scene. I obviously chose the spice. 😉
Lucky Charm was a quick and sweet book with all the Hallmark feels. Emerson is an aspiring singer and ends up moving next door to her brother’s ex best friend. Stone is in the NFL and was best friends with Emerson’s brother in high school until he “stole” a scholarship from him…how is that even possible? I did really like both Emerson and Stone but I felt they were both a little immature. I enjoyed so much about this book but the ending felt rushed and I was left wanting a bit more of Stone and Emerson. If you are looking for a clean and low angst palette cleanser then this book is perfect!
3 ⭐️
inspired by taylor and travis?!!!!!
- childhood friends to lovers
- brothers ex best friend
- dual pov
- NFL player & aspiring signer
- forced proximity
- fake dating
- no spice
this was a cute & quick read full of everything you love in a typical romance!! I enjoyed this story and it's fun pop culture inspiration. I wish we had gone deeper into the details, sometimes it just felt like I was being told what was going on (I did this, then this..), and I would have loved to see more happen with her family & brother. While miscommunication doesn't bother me as much as it does to others, there was a bit too much in this book. I did love the lucky charm theme throughout the story, it was sweet and something I related to!
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC 💓
This was such an enjoyable, quick read that I was able to finish in one day (to be fair, I simply didn't want to wait to finish it). While Stone and Emerson ticked me off a few times, with their miscommunications, I really enjoyed the characters and Stone was such a gentleman. This was my first book by Anne-Marie Meyer, and it will not be my last.
Thank you to the author, NetGalley and Sweet Escape Publishing, LLC for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Stone is a famous football player for the Tennessee Tigers and Emerson is a budding musician who works in a coffee shop.
Growing up, Stone was best friends with Emerson’s brother Cayden, until Stone was offered the football scholarship Cayden had dreamed off. This lead to the end of their friendship. Fast forward a few years later, Stone is at the top of his game whilst Emerson is facing eviction. Her best friend Tilly manages to find her a new apartment which seems too good to be true. Especially when it turns out Stone will be her neighbour. After being reunited, Emerson’s friend Tilly suggests the two fake date to help Emerson get discovered as a singer.
I was rooting for Stone and Emerson from the start. It felt slow burn between them but their chemistry was great! Their relationship felt very natural. I liked that they were able to move on from what happened in their past. Stone and his Lucky Charms were so sweet. He was a great mmc always looking out for Emerson and you could really tell he cared for her. It was hard to put this book down as I was so immersed in their story, I read it in a day!
Thank you to NetGalley for sending me a copy to review.
Lucky Charm was a fun book to read. A budding song writer/singer, Emerson and an all star football player Stone, who just happens to be her high school crush, and let's not forget about her best friend and manager Tilly, that comes up with some crazy ideas. Tilly convinces Emerson to sublet an apartment, that just so happens to across the hall from Stone, although she doesn't know that when she agrees to move-in, Tilly's first idea and her second is for Emerson and Stone to pretend they are in a relationship to get Emerson more visibility for her budding career. It was fast read and kept my attention all the way through, all the characters were very likable and I wanted to be friends with them.
Anne-Marie Meyer is a fairly new author for me and I will continue to read her books.
