This book felt very helpful, but it also felt very real and at times it made me laugh. It really felt like I was listening to my (more experienced with motherhood) friend.
I really liked that it was more about how you feel and why you might feel that way, not just about what and how you should do stuff. I found the book to be comprehensive, and it also had some pages where you had space to answer a few questions (very helpful, but quite a sensitive matter, which makes this book good in my opinion). There are quite a few things I didn't see or read before, and I found them really interesting.
In conclusion, this book stands out from other books about motherhood because it's main focus is how you, as a new mom, feel, what is normal and what is not, how to manage expectation and so much more. The manner in which it is written is what makes is easy to read and understand, feeling, as I said before, more like a friend than a book.
As someone who doesn't read nonfiction, I couldn't put this down. It just felt like a conversation between friends. It was real. Honest. Straight forward. Insightful. Helpful. Encouraging. Most importantly, a judgement free zone. ❤️
As a new mom the whole book just felt relevant. Regardless of what trimester (postpartum) you’re in, each chapter, and section, is relatable and useful. There's a lot of good advice, helpful selfcare tools, and even product recommendations that could be really beneficial to new moms. Yasmin talks about sleep deprivation, what happens to your body, moods, relationships, the dreaded WTF moments, and more through each postpartum trimester.
At the end of the day, we're all doing our best to figure out motherhood...in our own unique way. And this book really made that feel okay. Encouraged it even.
"And do this mom thing your way because that’s the only way." 👏
A couple quotes that really resonated with me...
"Sometimes just knowing someone else out there has gone through what you’re going through in this new-momma adventure can really help to make it feel more manageable and to give you hope."
"Remember, you are doing your best. Some days your best is crap, and that’s really okay. Stop comparing yourself to other moms online. You are finding your own way as a mom."
