I got this book for free via NetGalley for a review.
This book provides loads to easy-to-follow guides to drawing a variety of cute birds. The step by step instructions make it simple to quickly draw your own birds. I had a lot of fun drawing these and am now intrigued by some of the other books in the Kawaii series.
This book is another great installment in the Kawaii series! As someone who’s a notoriously bad drawer I managed to draw a galah on procreate following this guide and I couldn’t be happier. It’s a great starting platform for those of us who want to be creative but haven’t yet developed the skills to express themselves and need a little handholding with a step by step guide.
Very sweet book with plenty of variety in the birds featured
I really appreciated the different poses and activities section, giving you a chance to adapt the different breeds
I received an advance copy for free from NetGalley, on the expectation that I would provide an honest review.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.
I adore webcomics like "A Budgie's Life" by Atusori so this artbook is a delight! The breakdown of the different shapes is newbie friendly but they also included a lot of scientifically accurate information about the different bird species. Ten out of ten!
This is actually a very cute book. It teaches you how to draw birds (adorable version but I think if you got the hang of it, you could use the same techniques but enhance it even more to make it realistic or develop your own style). I've been drawing since I was very young but couldn't draw any animal (unless you consider that 'm' in the sky when I draw any horizon but this book helped me somehow.
This book offers lots of tips and tricks to draw so many different kinds of birds. I loved trying my hand at all the different birds. Even if you are not an artist or aspiring artist, this book can walk you through drawing the cutest little birds.
Thank you, NetGalley and Rock Point for providing me with this beautiful drawing tutorial! The drawings are super cute and fluffy! All birdies are so kawaii just like the title of this book. I wish I could have a physical copy of this book so I could look at it anytime I want.
Thanks to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for the review copy. All opinions are mine.
I journal every day and like to sometimes break up the block of text with doodles. However, I do not draw very well. So when I see any "Learn to Draw" books that are as adorable as this, I usually request them.
Sometimes the how-to's leave a lot of directions out, assuming you can make it to their shapes, when in reality it's very hard for someone with little drawing skill to actually recreate those shapes. This book, however, is easy to use and has really cute birds to draw.
This book will help you learn how to draw cute cartoony birds using simple shapes. It's a good "learn how to draw" style title with a wide variety of birds. It distinguishes itself from some other drawing books with the inclusion of a section of birds in dynamic poses doing fun things. You can draw your parakeet surfing or as a DnD style bard. There's also a fun 'dress-up' section of birds in costumes. Some of my favorites is the Battle Birdie, a tufted titmouse wielding a butcher knife and the teatime birdie, a Warbling White-eye with cuppa and kettle.
If you like cute birds and silly comics this is a great pick for you.
Oh so amazing! Much like the others in this collection. This book teaches you step by step to draw the cutest animals.
Some very nice and cute drawings. I love to doodle and Kawaii doodles are too cute to draw. These designs are definitely going to help me in taking my art to a further step. The graphics is cute with step by step drawing instructions. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with an opportunity to read and review the book.
Immediately recognizable birds are done in round kawaii style. The book has step-by-step instructions for drawing the birds. Additional pages showing wings, beaks, etc. will allow the reader to create new birds in this style.
This was such a cute book and my daughter also absolutely loved using it to help her to draw. The step-by-step is perfect, not to simple, not too complex either.
All in a fabulous book that I am sure my daughter will continue to create some great fridge drawings for me.
As a person who likes art but doesn't pick up a pencil very often myself, I loved how this simple yet cute and professional guide helped me create drawings I never believed I would be able to do on my own! The whole book is divided into types of birds, depicting their emotions, and you can freely go back and forth to see which one you would like to challenge yourself with. The instructions are clear and presented step-by-step. I will be on the lookout for other books like this because there is potential not only for birds but maybe corgis too?
“A bird has no fear of the branch breaking. Trust your wings. Believe in yourself.”
I’m not an artist. I can barely hold a pen (or a stylus) and I often feel frustrated with art books as things that apparently are obvious for the author aren’t for me (and, sometimes, the opposite too…).
This book makes an exception. I might have liked more details about… details but the fact that they are listed at the beginning of the books is very helpful already to train and recognize them. I like how the table of contents was based on the zoological classification (and the kawaii wing anatomy), adding a bit of education to that fun book.
The book is simple (is the best of ways), with just as many steps as I needed to manage to draw something that actually looks like a bird. The “activity” section, where birds are acting like birds was my favourite, even if it’s still out of my range for now.
I really enjoyed that arc, and definitely try to follow most of the tutorials. I was great for the eternal adult beginner that I am, but will also be great for kids.
My daughter and I really enjoyed this book. We have a few of the other Kawaii books at home but this one is dedicated to birds from around the world.
The pictures are super cute and the step by step drawings were helpful. My 10 year old has draw a few birds from the book and they look fantastic. It's given her a confidence in her art.
Thanks to NetGalley, I was able to read a digital ARC of Kawaii Birdies by Jen Budrock.
After a short intro of the artist, there's a brief explanation of kawaii which is followed by notes on tools how to use the book. Pages of simple outlines showing the shapes of various anatomical parts, like wings, crests, beaks etc follow, before a directory of facial expressions and a quick guide to colouring.
A couple of pages categorising the various orders of bird follow, with a little bird drawn for each type. And they are adorable! So, so cute. The artist has really nailed the kawaii factor.
Most of the rest of the book is short one-page tutorials on how to draw specific types of bird, so they actually look like the type of bird you're aiming for. A section at the end shows how to draw the birds in adorable poses, or with fun or cute accessories. The final section consists of four double spread colouring pages full of little birdies to colour.
Just flipping through this book is so much fun. It made me want to try drawing some myself, and I shall be giving it at try. Budrock makes it look easy. Admittedly there might be a bit of the a draw-the-rest-of-the-owl vibe, but how un-cute could they turn out?
Full disclosure, I really like birds, I love kawaii art, and I'm terribly biased in favour of kawaii animal characters that have little x's for buttholes. Those x' s make this an automatic 5 stars from me.
This was so fun for me, im usually not one to draw but this book made it fun and easy to do so, I had so much fun drawing and painting different birds. I loved this, thanks to netgalley for this!
Um… hi. I’m obsessed. This book is literally one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen and I love it so much. 15/10. Would recommend. The burbs. 😭
Another great Kawaii drawing book for anyone’s collection.
I am obsessed with birds and love drawing them, so this title was right up my alley. There are 80 different birds to try your hands at with easy step by steps.
The front has variation styles to try and practice and the back has some birds to color.
Overall, I am incredibly impressed with this one! It’s fantastic.
