This book is adorable and surprisingly informative.. I love the variety of birds and poses that you can learn to draw them in. I think this would be a great pick for anyone!
Easy to follow instructions that produce adorable results. I like the breadth of birds available to draw and the wide range of extras in the book.
There are so many cute birdies in this book to learn how to draw and I am so excited to try to draw them soon;
Such a great book to learn how to draw different types of birds. I love how the author breaks down how to draw birds into shapes so it is easy to learn how to draw them. I already tried to draw some of them.
Kawaii means "cute" in Japanese and is commonly applied to Chibi art or anime, as well as a whole range of mascots and advertising. In Kawaii Birdies, Jen Budrck takes the reader through the steps to create their own Kawaii Birdies (and there is a lot of inspo for the Kawaii Birdie examples (look out for that Turfted Titmouse and relate to the Blue Pacific Parrotlet!)
The Lines key is very helpful as are the core shapes. Included also is a short section on basic wing anatomy which is very useful when posing your birdie, and all written in a way that all ages and abilities can engage in this adorable genre of art. I found the directions very easy (and enjoyable) to follow and teh instructions clear and concise (as well as having a subtle humour underlying the designs and narrative)
Once you have learned the basic shapes and anatomy, there are sections on different types of Birdie, character/ emotes, even dressing your birdie and setting them in scenes. Finally, pages to practice your drawings and colouring pages
All in all a delightful book and the series is a great springboard for drawing your own kawaii world!
Thankyou to Netgalley, Quarto Publishing Group and Jen Budrock for this adorable ARC. My review is left voluntarily and all opinions are my own
I just downloaded this and have already drawn three of these birds 😂
I will be purchasing this when it comes out! Thanks for the advanced copy to confirm I will love it!
I would like to thank Jennifer Budrock, NetGalley & Quarto Publishing Group for an advanced look into this upcoming creative publication on drawing, Kawaii Birdies!
This ebook was a delight! I find Jen's passion for helping birds like Cody on every page of this book; it just makes my heart sing! There is such a thoughtful yet scientific layout to the book.
As someone who uses creativity as an outlet for an analytical mind seeing the two melded together in this book was a joy. A crash course in bird anatomy and the inclusion of a species directory created such a helpful tool for sampling characteristics to use in my own drawings. I find the method of how to use this book to be clear and intuitive. The drawing lines key is easy to understand and consistent through each activity in the book.
The shenanigans section was utterly adorable, I have had such a hard time picking a favorite from this book! Anyone could use this book to make kawaii birdies, it's just that well done! Thank you Jen for sharing your love of birds, creating Birdhism, and sharing this wonderful book with us! You've inspired me, I will be sure to spread the joy of these cuties, "put a bird on it"!
Such a cute book! As a birdwatcher I appreciate that there are various species and forms represented in this book. Very thorough and good instructions
These birds are the cutest! I had a great time drawling them with my daughters. The directions were easy to follow even for me, and I am NOT an artist! I would recommend this any one who loves to draw cute things.
I love this book! It's a good guide to learn how to draw several different kawaii birds. It gives some good instructions about how to draw it. There even is a chapter about how to draw the birds while doing several activities. Overall very cute!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an ARC of "Kawaii Birdies" by Jen Budrock. I requested this for my daughter because she is an avid drawer and also loves anime/Japanese-style animation. She had an absolute blast looking through the book and picking different kawaii birds to draw. I know this is going to keep her entertained for many hours! It is a truly stunning book and I appreciate the opportunity to review.
Absolutely a delight! Everything you could want from a how-to draw Kawaii book. Simple to follow, very inspiring and perfect illustrations! This will be a hit with fans of doodling, manga drawing and, of course, all things cute.
This book is very well done. The instructions were clear, and easy to follow. I thought the key at the front was particularly easy to use and really helpful. I also liked a lot that this book referenced both digital and paper/pencil drawing methods and gave helpful tips for both.
The birds are all super cute, and there is a great variety of them, too. I enjoyed that they were grouped together to include not just different types of birds, but you also had birds doing different things, birds in various poses. A lot of birds! I'm really excited to use the techniques and birds I learned in this book in my journaling, which is why I grabbed this book in the first place. Super pleased and super fun!
Super cute, the title did not lie. I will enjoy working through this book so that I can have some fun with my doodling and I'm hoping when paint birds they loom cuter too.
The bird is the word? No, the bird is the illustration. This book has so many positively delightful little birdies to draw and doodle. Some are shy birds who prefer gaming (maybe Angry Birds?) and some are self-love birds who like to hot tub (and may be spilling the tea!). There are basic blue birds and exotic pink birds. The directions are easy to follow and it doesn’t have to be perfect to still be cute. So if you’re drawing together as a flock or alone as an empty nester, you won’t be disappointed with the options within.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I’m having so much fun working through the tutorials in this book! All of the birds are super cute and I love how there are tutorials that would work with various skill levels, so a beginner like me doesn’t feel intimidated. I’ve really been leaning into checking out drawing books this year and I can’t wait to get my own copy of this one!
absolutely adorable birds and very easy to follow tutorial for me (38) and my kid (7)! a gorgeous range of poses and activities, a wonderful tutorial section including wing anatomy, bird type, and facial expressions
Book that brings you fun. If you want to learn how to draw but don’t know where to start - this book will teach you, in approachable way, how to do it. Fun and simple, colourful and imaginative. Worth your time. For children, teens and adults. Why not?!
There were so many great ideas in this book! I can’t wait to get started drawing some cute birdies now. This book helped me understand basic wing structure and the shapes that create the body of the bird. It also provided lots of inspiration for creating your own designs. I loved the section at the end where the birds were pictures with little props, that’s when things get really fun and the personality of the characters shine.
Thank you for the eARC! I can’t wait to get started drawing!
There are all sorts of cute designs included in this how-to book! The instructions are very clear, and there are pictures included every step of the way. No portion of the process is missing. It was very easy to get started. An excellent edition to an artist's library.
I’m so happy I was able to review this book. As someone who loves to doodle in my free time, the adorable birds and bright colors caught my attention immediately.
The first thing I loved was the sheer variety of birds this book offers. From types of birds, to poses, and even breakdowns of anatomy - you will learn to draw a whole menagerie of truly “kawaii” flying friends!
Secondly, I am an educator and am always looking for books I can leave in my classroom for early finishers. How to draw books are always a favorite, because it combines reading and creativity. Reading this book through an educator’s lens, I was focused on how accessible it would be for the middle school students I teach. My consensus was that they’d be able to follow along very well, and the style of art is right up their alley.
For anyone with basic drawing doodle skills to skilled artists, I think this extremely visually appealing book will be a win for everyone!
A cute and adorable manual for drawing cartoon-stylized birds in various poses, from common pigeon and rooster, to exotic parrots. The instructions are clear and the examples varied and colorful. Drawings aren't complicated to perform. Recommended for children ages 5-10 who are learning to draw and are looking for fun, short, motivating exercises.
I am a big fan of Jen's birdie artwork from following her social media account Birdhism. The artwork is just the cutest I've ever seen. I love the way she captures the crazy personalities of our little flooffy friends and shows them in fun but totally real scenarios that any bird owner will relate to. The book is packed with beautifully coloured drawings and each has a step by step guide on how to create them yourself using digital tools. I really love this book and highly recommend it
The most adorable book! We are big fans of drawing books in this house and both my 10 year old and I love to give these types of drawings a go. The instructions were super clear and cute and so many options.
Initially my daughter was afraid she couldn’t do it, but the detailed step by step made it simple and gave great results.
Would definitely recommend
So cute! Most of the birds are very round (a plus) and some are put into fun situations to draw. If you want to learn a new way to draw very round birds, I definitely suggest this!
This book is really cute. The directions for drawing are very simple. The directions are provided step by step.
There are also a lot of various of birds. I have something to do during boring work meetings that could have easily been an email.
Thank you Jen Budrock and NetGalley.
This might be THE most adorable and THE cutest drawing lessons book out there!
The Kawaii birdies are super adorable!
The drawing lessons are good too, really good. I’d say the book is suitable for most levels of drawing experience, even for beginners. The lessons are bite-sized and easy to follow, each step is clearly outlined and there are ideas on how to customize your art.
The book would be the most perfect gift to any young, budding artist or anyone who wants to try their hand at drawing.
A book filled with simple instructions with how to draw cute chibi-esk birds. From simple to complicated there are step by step instructions for a variety of birds. they also give tips on how to draw birds that are not even shown with examples of different beaks and feet. Also included is how to draw them doing mundane things to silly actions.
I'm obsessed with step by step drawing books right now! I'm terrible at free hand drawing but always feel so accomplished when I can draw something from a book so I love these "how to" books. The birds are ADORABLE and so much fun to draw. Definitely recommend for fans of step by step drawing and anyone that loves birds.
Great for beginners too because I am definitely not a skilled artist.
Kawaii birdies is a very fun book that teaches you to draw a variety of birds that may piCAW your interest. It’s a nice way to destress and a fun activity to do with friends. All of the birds were very kawaii and felt easy to draw for someone that isn’t an artist. The instructions are very clear and concise. I liked the funny birds that were in different poses, like the bird hiding in a person’s sleeve. Overall, a great drawing book for beginners!
Kawaii Birdies : Learn to Draw 80 Adorable Feathered Friends. This is a super cute book full of all types of birdies. The instructions are clear and easy to follow and the book can be used by just about anyone from children to doodlers of all ages. I liked the way the book was structured and examples of the birdies in colour really brought life to the book. excellent bit of fun.
Kawaii Birds is just as cute as the other Kawaii animal/creature books. Better be with Kawaii as the name if it. Lots of of meme bird poses too.
Simple. Doable. Adorable.
I already doodle while notetaking, but now my notes are about to be covered in birdies.
Buying a personal copy and one for the library. Kids and adults will love this one.
Some very nice and cute drawings. I love to doodle and Kawaii doodles are too cute to draw. These designs are definitely going to help me in taking my art to a further step. The graphics is cute with step by step drawing instructions. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with an opportunity to read and review the book.
Immediately recognizable birds are done in round kawaii style. The book has step-by-step instructions for drawing the birds. Additional pages showing wings, beaks, etc. will allow the reader to create new birds in this style.
This was such a cute book and my daughter also absolutely loved using it to help her to draw. The step-by-step is perfect, not to simple, not too complex either.
All in a fabulous book that I am sure my daughter will continue to create some great fridge drawings for me.
As a person who likes art but doesn't pick up a pencil very often myself, I loved how this simple yet cute and professional guide helped me create drawings I never believed I would be able to do on my own! The whole book is divided into types of birds, depicting their emotions, and you can freely go back and forth to see which one you would like to challenge yourself with. The instructions are clear and presented step-by-step. I will be on the lookout for other books like this because there is potential not only for birds but maybe corgis too?
My daughter and I really enjoyed this book. We have a few of the other Kawaii books at home but this one is dedicated to birds from around the world.
The pictures are super cute and the step by step drawings were helpful. My 10 year old has draw a few birds from the book and they look fantastic. It's given her a confidence in her art.
Thanks to NetGalley, I was able to read a digital ARC of Kawaii Birdies by Jen Budrock.
After a short intro of the artist, there's a brief explanation of kawaii which is followed by notes on tools how to use the book. Pages of simple outlines showing the shapes of various anatomical parts, like wings, crests, beaks etc follow, before a directory of facial expressions and a quick guide to colouring.
A couple of pages categorising the various orders of bird follow, with a little bird drawn for each type. And they are adorable! So, so cute. The artist has really nailed the kawaii factor.
Most of the rest of the book is short one-page tutorials on how to draw specific types of bird, so they actually look like the type of bird you're aiming for. A section at the end shows how to draw the birds in adorable poses, or with fun or cute accessories. The final section consists of four double spread colouring pages full of little birdies to colour.
Just flipping through this book is so much fun. It made me want to try drawing some myself, and I shall be giving it at try. Budrock makes it look easy. Admittedly there might be a bit of the a draw-the-rest-of-the-owl vibe, but how un-cute could they turn out?
Full disclosure, I really like birds, I love kawaii art, and I'm terribly biased in favour of kawaii animal characters that have little x's for buttholes. Those x' s make this an automatic 5 stars from me.
Um… hi. I’m obsessed. This book is literally one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen and I love it so much. 15/10. Would recommend. The burbs. 😭
Another great Kawaii drawing book for anyone’s collection.
I am obsessed with birds and love drawing them, so this title was right up my alley. There are 80 different birds to try your hands at with easy step by steps.
The front has variation styles to try and practice and the back has some birds to color.
Overall, I am incredibly impressed with this one! It’s fantastic.
A good step-by-step on how to draw really cute little cartoon birds. I particularly liked that instructions are also given for birds dressed in certain ways or doing certain activities.
As always I like the step-by-step books that show each progressive step in a different color.
5 stars. Really cute.
Kawaii Birdies is such a joyous book filled with how to's and coloring pages! It engages readers to learn about a diversity of birds and even included options on how to draw birds just doing bird things. An overall lovely and fun guide to drawing that encourages creativity and will expands your love for cute birds
