What a sweet little book! It put me right in the Christmas spirit! 🎄 I'll be reading it again at Christmas time!
A sweet Christmas romance that covers three generations. First love, old love and new love. All center around a typical small town Christmas. Riley lost her job in New York and returns home to help her mom who broke her leg with the inn she owns. Things are slow at the inn and Riley using her business experience revamps the marketing. A surprise for her was that her old boyfriend and is son were staying at the inn. With the new marketing ideas the inn is sold out and Riley and Aidan along with his son Luke and fellow guest Franny and of course her mom bond together during happy hour.
As life takes them different ways they always return and strengthen the friendship that develops over a glass of wine. I did enjoy the audiobook and also read it. The narrator was very good, I felt like I could smell the meals being cooked. Thank you for this ARC, all opinions expressed are my own. #TheChristmasInn
This is a charming Christmas read. Riley Sanders heads home for Christmas after unexpectedly losing her job in Manhattan. Her mom has recently broken her leg and welcomes her home to help run her bed and breakfast. After a fun-filled, family-centered holiday, Riley is reminded of what she’s missing by living and working in Manhattan.
If you like Hallmark romances, this is the book for you. This book is cozy and a quick read, and it’s very enjoyable.
Thank you to NetGalley and Griffin for providing an early copy in exchange for an honest review.
This was a quick read. It was pretty predictable. But it would be a perfect holiday read. Sometimes there was a little too much detail. But I enjoyed the characters.
My first holiday read of the year and it's a great one! Christmas doesn't really play a big role in the story. Even though I felt like some of the circumstances weren't true to life, I liked the book. Some days you just need something sweet and happy.
This is a feel good Christmas story reminiscent of a Hallmark movie. It has three different couples that find love at different stages in their lives. The central piece of the story is a beautiful inn in the small town on the Cape. Riley gets a second chance at love with her high school boyfriend Aiden, while Franny and Beth find someone to love for a second time. The plot follows each character as they discover the good that is coming their way. It is an easy to read book and will give readers a good feeling for the holidays.
Christmas stories are my absolute favorites and this one sure hit the mark. I also have a soft spot for books involving inns. It always brings characters into the book that have their own different backgrounds and stories.
Riley has come back home to help her mother run the inn while she recovers from a broken leg. Staying at the Christmas Inn is an older woman living out quests from letters left her by her deceased sister. There is Aiden (Riley's old boyfriend) and his young son. Could there still be something there between them? Other character help round out the entertaining cast.
I alternated between the digital and the audio version of this book narrated by Stephanie Nemeth-Parker. The narration was excellent and just what I hope for in a Christmas book. The voices were easily distinguishable and pleasant to listen to.
Thanks to St. Martin's Press and Macmillan Audio for the copies. All thoughts are my own.
Sometimes you just find a book that totally fits your lifestyle, your thoughts and your likes, and you find it at just the right time! The Christmas Inn did that for me, and I loved it from start to finish! Thanks, NetGalley for letting me read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.
This is about family helping family, finding love a second time around, and realizing that small town life can be much more rewarding than the hustle and bustle and demands of the big city! The author incorporated so many wonderful extras into her story - when she wrote about a cheese shop that Franny went in, she actually mentioned and described specific cheeses. She had her characters talk about wines the same way, and mentioned authors and books when she wrote about going into the bookstore, to browse and buy books and my favorite paragraph described how sometimes the first sentence of a book just lets you know that you were meant to find that book at that time and that you were meant to buy it and read it!
So now I want to go back and write down all the cheeses, wines, books and authors she mentioned so I can try them as well. I think that says a lot about how I felt about this book! Great job!
I received a free copy of, The Christmas Inn, by Pamela Kelley, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. The Christmas Inn was a sweet and cozy read. I really enjoyed the characters, the descriptions, the story, and the romance. As always, Kelley's books are a joy to read.
Riley has been laid off from her job in New York, and learns that her mom has a broken leg. She heads back home to Cape Cod for the holidays and to help run her BnB. There is romance for three generations of women, and we meet several other residents of the town. Will Riley find another job and head back to New York? Can the inn find more guests and survive? Will they all get their happily ever after? Read on to find out!
When Riley loses her job right before Christmas, she heads home. Her non runs a bed and breakfast on the shores of Cape Cod. Her mom had recently broken her leg so Riley volunteers to help out at the in for a while. When she runs into Aiden, her high school flame, she realizes the flame is still burning. Will Riley take another job in New York or will she find a way to stay in her hometown. This is a cozy, feel-good story just in time for Christmas reading. Thanks to @NetGalley for the ARC of this book. I really enjoyed it.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC. This was the perfect book to get me in the season. Pamela M. Kelley is an auto read auto for me and this book was adorable.
Riley thinks that she is happy with her life In New York until she loses her job. She goes home to Chatham to help out her mother and reconnects with old friends and makes new ones. Feel good Christmas story.
This is the book you've been waiting for! Multigenerational look at life, love and loss with a dose of second chances and starting over mixed in. Set around the Christmas season so brew up a cup of cocoa, coffee or hot cinnamon tea to set the mood and dive into the book! However, I must warn you that you need to make sure that you block the day off so you can spend it wrapped up in the lives of characters in this book as you won't want to put the book down for even a second! The characters are extremely well thought out with unique personalities, quirks, insecurities and charm to make them relatable and realistic. They will draw you into the story and keep you invested to the last word! FYI: If you like audiobooks, this book is available in audio and the narration is outstanding as well. The narrator does an amazing job of taking a well written book and bringing it even further to life. So, whether you prefer to read the book yourself or you like a narrator to do it for you, you can't go wrong with grabbing this book! I'm already planning on making this the book that I give to my reader friends for Christmas this year. The plot is well thought out, heartwarming and engaging! I can't wait for this author to create another world for me to fall into!
A Hallmark movie in book form.
This was very cute, and totally got me in the mood for the holiday season. Overall, it was super sweet and a nice introduction to the holidays.
This is definitely a book for the Hallmark movie lovers.
This was a nice story. It takes place in the weeks leading up to Christmas. It’s about family, friends, new and old romances. They spent a lot of time in the story drinking and eating. The food all sounded really good and had me wishing the recipes had been included.
It’s another good book by this author.
I was granted an ARC by NetGalley for this delightful holiday novel by Pamela M. Kelley! Riley left home for the lights of New York , had received a promotion to her dream job earlier in the year and was laid off just before the holidays….not what she was expecting but timing was perfect. Her mother, having suffered an accident, needed additional help at her bed and breakfast so Riley packed a bag, loaded it and her cat, Lilly (don’t you just love when the author includes animals!) and headed home to shores of Cape Cod. Ms. Kelley, draws you in to the lives of those Riley loves and knows and the people she meets at the Inn and makes you long to make reservations and stay for a while. Five stars for The Christmas Inn!
I thought this book was going to be a four star and then a three, but if I’m being completely honest, for me it was a 2. It started out as a sweet, easy read and for those who like this genre, I’m sure you will like it. Let me explain why it could only be a 2 for me.
To start, everything was over detailed. Simple actions were described step by step. Every single meal, every single day was described. I’ve never needed to know what characters are eating for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There was lots of commentary on how much, or might I say how little, the female characters would eat. As if it was rewarding for how light of eaters they were and oh how bad, they had a third slice of pizza. These details were so odd and unnecessary.
Next, I’m not sure why the alternative relationship choices had to be “bad” instead of just not right. Sean’s comments about Marcy were actually petty and unnecessary. She never paid, she didn’t like dogs, etc. Considering this was their first few dates, it would be a red flag for me if a guy brought up his ex that much, and in such a negative light. There was no reason to make her so negative just to make Beth seem better.
In the end, I was not a fan of Riley. She told Aiden she was happy with Jack but what is this based on? She complained about him and barely talked to him the entire book. He’s supposed to be the “bad” city boyfriend in this type of plot but he never really did anything wrong. He worked long hours but he was upfront about his goals and job requirements. He helped her get an interview and was excited to work with her. He included her with his coworkers. Riley was a wet blanket at the NYE party. The other women were welcoming, there was good food and dancing, a breakfast buffet brought out. She is going and lives in Manhattan but that was too much for her? She was the problem that night. He checked in with her the next day and wanted to spend time with her but she declined and talked to her friend about how she was upset he didn’t spend time with her. Then, she breaks up with him and goes to Aiden the NEXT DAY. You can’t call what happened between the two of them while she was in Chatham anything but an emotional affair. Riley was the bad guy.
I wanted to just leave this at a 3 and it was a sweet, clean novel but I had to give my honest opinion.
Thank you to NetGalley and St Martin’s Press for the ARC.
Fun holiday book about a sweet coastal town on the Cape and the stories intertwined there. You get a couple of generations within this book and the stories they live out and intertwine with. I did feel the overly descriptive wine and setting details got to be cumbersome as the book went on.
Overall a delightful read especially around the holidays to give a cozy, snowy day to along with cocoa or tea.
Pamela Kelley tends to be a hit author for me! This novel is no different. I absolutely felt connected to the characters and this small town. I adored the found family within the Inn at Christmas time. This ending was very predictable and Hallmarky however I adore those!
"The Christmas Inn" is a simple Christmastime story about a young woman named Riley who loses her job working for a marketing company. When her mom breaks her leg, Riley decides to move from New York City back to her hometown of Chatham, Massachusetts to help her mom run their small inn. While there, Riley reconnects with old friends and reevaluates what she values in life.
This story and its characters were very vanilla. There was no tension, no humor, no major climax. The story just felt very monotone. There was enough plot with Riley, her mom, her sister, her boyfriend, and her ex to create enough of a plot. Adding the side plot of Franny felt unnecessary. Her storyline didn't tie in to Riley's in a special way and could've been left out. This was a cute story but nothing about it stood out.
