I think my expectations were too high for this book. Love Vi's romance books...this thriller book, not so much. I kept waiting for the big shocking (suck all the air out of the room) moment but it didn't happen. Much of the story was predictable and I didn't like the ending. I wouldn't even call this a romance book but there are some sex scenes mixed in there. As far as recommending this book, it would depend on the person. If you are new to thrillers I think you will enjoy this book. If you already read thrillers, you won't like it since it's predictable. With that said, I'm still a big fan of Vi Keeland and will continue to read her books.
Thank you NetGalley and Atria Books for sending this book for review consideration.
What in the WORLD did I just read....?
When I opened this book, I was not expecting to become so addicted to it, I would refuse to go on with my day until I was done with it. This book is addictive, fast-paced, entertaining, and packing one helluva punch.
Meredith is a psychiatrist who's entire life unraveled despite it being quite picture perfect. Fast forward a year, a new client comes in and oh no... she knows him. But how? And why exactly does this client elicit her fight or flight when it comes to morals and ethics? I'm not going to say much else because honestly, you need to find this craziness out for yourself.
This book did a good job of unraveling ME as I read it. I was on the edge of my seat, desperate to turn each page faster than the last. Vi Keeland did such an amazing job with this book that I'm still thinking about it days later.
Happy release day! If you're a psychological thriller fan, pick this up ASAP.
Thank you to Netgalley and Atria books for the early copy to review!
3.5⭐
Meredith McCall, a New York City psychiatrist, is drawn into a complex web of deception, secrets, lies and obsession after she encounters a man who has a tragic connection to a traumatic event that upended her life.
The Unraveling by Vi Keeland is a well-crafted psychological thriller that has enough twists and turns to keep you engaged until the very end. I can’t say I particularly liked Meredith, but I couldn’t look away as she began to unravel, triggering a shocking chain of events and I was curious to see where she would finally land. I won’t even begin to question her choices or her professional ethics, because despite what she has gone through it is almost impossible to justify her actions, which renders her a complex, if slightly (I’m being kind here) unhinged protagonist. I had expected a somewhat predictable denouement and I was partially correct in my assumptions, but the author did surprise me with one particular twist toward the end. The ending was satisfying, though a tad rushed and less intense than I had expected after the tension-filled build-up.
Well-paced, suspenseful and overall enjoyable, I did like this novel even though I can’t say I loved it. As I say for most books in this genre, don’t overthink it and enjoy the wild ride.

Dr. Meredith McCall is a psychiatrist that has just suffered an unimaginable loss. In the aftermath, she crosses paths with Gabriel Wright who shares this loss with her although he doesn't know it. But, how is he so happy when she can barely get out of bed in the morning? Meredith must find out why and how Gabriel has been able to manage this loss so easily and the only logical way to do that is to follow him right? Then one day, Gabriel walks into her office as her new patient. Meredith knows this crosses all ethical boundaries of her job, but she can't seem to let him go,
Review:
Wow just wow!!!! My first 5 star read since April and a thriller at that! That is near impossible for me, but this book was pure perfection! I could not put it down, it sucked me in immediately, and I will for sure be thinking about it for a long time!! I was so invested in this story and the characters. They are super messy, definitely unethical, and a little crazy and deranged. All I have to say is, buckle up because the unraveling of these characters' secrets is going to bring you on the best ride of your life!
And lets not even talk about the ending!!! What the heck did I just read?!?!?! My mouth was hanging open in utter shock after reading the last paragraph. Complete insanity!! I did not see that coming in the slightest and I loved every messed up second of it!
I heard this was Vi Keeland's first thriller and I am immediately starting a petition for her to write 10 more!
The Unraveling published today, 7/9. Hurry up and read it so I can talk to someone about it!!
Thank you to NetGalley, Vi Keeland, and Atria books for this ARC of The Unraveling in exchange for an honest review.

This is a FANTASTIC psychological thriller!!! Holy crap this is good!
Psychiatrist, Meredith McCall, had her license revoked for a year. In therapy, she is trying to heal from her own grief and guilt. A year ago, she was happily married to a hockey star. But now, she's lonely and fixated on a charismatic English professor, Gabriel Wright... the same man whose life she and her husband completely ruined. Why was Gabriel a target and how did they ruin him?
When Meredith finally returns to her job, mostly whole and fairly happy, her newest client is none other than Gabriel Wright, seeking treatment and discussing his losses. Meredith finds herself in an ethical and moral quandary. Is she in danger?
Overall, this book is very fast paced, addictive and very entertaining!
✨E- ARC REVIEW✨
Happy Pub Day to this debut of a psychological thriller by Vi Keeland, The Unraveling!
I had this book on my netgalley shelf for a couple months now and just decided to pick it up. Why did I wait so long?!? I don’t know why because THIS.BOOK.SLAPS!!
My lingo: slaps = amazing
I could not put this book down! I would have finished in a day if I had the time! It was creepy. It was spooky. It was ominous. There is some stalking, but this will blow your mind until the VERY. LAST. sentence.
I wanted to yell at her. At times, I didn’t love the MC and a part got a bit repetitive but I’m glad I stuck with it.
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
10/10 recommend!
Thank you @netgalley and @ for the e-arc of this book!! I will totally be buying this for my shelves!!

Obsession……good or bad, there is a little bit in all of us. For Meredith McCall, the connection she feels to Gabriel Wright begins to consume her daily life. Meredith is embroiled in the tragedy that has befallen her marriage. A collection of secrets that Meredith’s husband failed to share. The ramification of those secrets hovers over Meredith in more ways than one.
As Meredith tries to pick up the pieces of her life, she finds herself drawn to the past. What will the psychologist do when the ‘past’ comes strolling into her life? Bordering on insanity, Meredith finds her life spiraling out of control in more ways than one. When reality sinks in, will Meredith be able to maintain the life she once held with great conviction?
Let me start by saying I am a sucker for a great thriller. When I heard Vi Keeland was dipping her toes into the genre, I couldn’t wait to dive in. As I was pulled into Meredith’s life, I found myself studying the nuances of events that led me down an unexpected rabbit hole of intrigue. An unraveling of Meredith’s life lays out before your eyes, but there are unexpected twists after twists.
I was completely vested in the plot of The Unraveling. To be completely honest – I did figure out the ‘aha’ moments prior to the end of the book. While I am a bit of an ‘old timer’ to the genre, I still found myself waiting to see the events unfold through Meredith’s reality. This was a fantastic book for those exploring the ‘thriller’ genre and for those with a bit of experience with this type of book. Vi Keeland surprised me with the way she eased into the genre so seamlessly. I cannot wait to see what Keeland pulls from her writing cave next. I will be (im)patiently waiting for the next book release!
R-I-V-E-T-I-N-G!!
This was my most anticipated read for 2024 and hands down it surpassed my expectations!
Who knew that a story about obsessions could be so enthralling and thought provoking. The title alone beautifully explains what is happening in the story!
This dramatic, suspenseful, knocked me sideways story takes a close look at the human condition, and its best enjoyed going in blindly!!
A moment in time changes a woman’s life in more ways than she ever imagined except something else is happening and this made Meredith’s story totally riveting!
When we meet Meredith, she had endured a horrible tragedy. Slowly, methodically I discover what happened and I never imagined what she set out to do and why??
An established psychiatrist doing what?
That is the million dollar question as I dove into this mysterious gut wrenching and painful story about a woman who made a decision born out of the lowest point in her life.
The plot so well executed and so twisted!
Meredith’s character was so well developed, strangely I understood her pain and insecurity. Written so realistically it was chilling that I understood what she was going through.
When she dove into a dark hole to execute a plan she knew she shouldn’t… I went along with her on a dark emotional and dangerous journey.
Just when she thought things were getting better something happens and it changes the trajectory of the story…
People are never who they appear and things are never what they appear!
Read it and find out what happens!!
Trigger warning: Graphic sexual content. As a married women this made me very uncomfortable and there were several pages at two different parts in the book that I had to skip.
The Unraveling kept me reading, and was a pretty run-of-the- mill thriller. Dr. Meredith McCall is lost after her husband has caused a terrible trauma and she runs into what she call refers to as "their victim". After taking a long break from her psychiatric practice her victim shows up for treatment, and she has to decide if this is coincidence or something much more sinister.

The Unraveling is a thriller based in New York City that tells us the story of a psychiatrist, Meredith McCall. Meredith went through a tragedy and feels like her life is spiraling out of control. Out on a walk one day she notices a man, Gabriel Wright, that had a tragedy at the same time as her. To her disbelief he seems happy, she starts following him to see if that’s really the case. This turned into a full-blown obsession, and I just couldn’t look away. When Gabriel comes into her psychiatrist’s office as a new patient, Meredith should turn him away, but she just has to know more.
With plenty of twists and turns this is one thriller you will not want to put down. While I did guess one of the twists early on there were plenty more to keep me on my toes. The story really draws you in and I highly recommend it for anyone that loves thrillers.
In a departure from her usual romance (which by the way I love), this story had me riveted to the page from the beginning. Who is stalking who? Who is losing their minds? Who is the criminal? So many questions to be asked and answered throughout. It had a few slow moments but that ending? Made it all worthwhile. Dive in and try to figure out who is the lost soul.
This isn’t a love story.
It’s a story about obsession.
After experiencing a terrible loss, New York City psychiatrist Meredith McCall feels painfully adrift. When she crosses paths with a man with whom she has a tragic connection, she follows him, sparking an unhealthy obsession with Gabriel Wright. How is he doing so well while her life is in shambles?
But when Gabriel walks into her office as a patient, seemingly unaware of who she is, she knows it crosses all ethical and moral bounds to treat him. Yet, Meredith can’t bring herself to turn him away and becomes further entangled. With her life and career continuing to unravel, it appears that things could not get any worse…until they do.
This was such a wild ride, full of so many twists and turns. Right up until the very last line of the book! This is the perfect fast, fun read to throw in your beach bag, so fun! This was my first by this author, but I look forward to seeing what she writes next in this genre. Thanks to @netgalley and @atriabooks for this advanced copy in exchange for my honest review. Publishes today (07/09/2024)
Holy. Shit. Having finished this book a minute ago I’m still reeling at how it unfolded.
We meet Hannah 18 months into a tailspin state of depression after losing her husband Connor in a tragic accident. We learn pretty quickly that Connor killed an innocent woman and her child in a car accident, along with losing his own life. Hannah can’t seem to move past it, feeling guilt and sadness over the losses. Then one day while wandering Manhattan, she sees the husband of the woman Connor killed. And he looks happy, like he’s moved on. But how could he so soon? Determined to see if this happiness is a facade, she follows him. And then she can’t stop following him. Weird things start happening to her and as she spirals into a wine infused confusion, we aren’t sure who we can trust or what is really happening. Told with alternating timelines of “before” and “now”, we are thrown into this game of cat and mouse, but we have no idea which one we are.
This is one of the best domestic psychological thrillers I’ve ever read. Looking forward to more from this author. Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
4 star review of The Unraveling by Vi Keeland
When I heard that Vi Keeland was writing a thriller/suspense novel, I knew I had to read it. The Unraveling ticked numerous boxes for me. This is a huge departure from the books that Ms. Keeland normally writes and was enough for me to want to read.
This is New York City psychiatrist Meredith McCall story and the man who becomes so important to her, Gabriel Wright. This is a story that drew me in and held me captive until the last paragraph was read. The twists and turns throughout the story kept me on my toes.
The book will take you on a rollercoaster of a ride and just wait until the end, it left me shaking my head.

📚The Unraveling by Vi Keeland
"The Unraveling" by Vi Keeland is a gripping psychological thriller that follows New York psychiatrist Meredith McCall's descent into obsession.
After losing her husband and being suspended from her practice, Meredith becomes fixated on Gabriel Wright, a man linked to her tragic past. When Gabriel unknowingly becomes her patient, lines blur dangerously.
Keeland masterfully combines suspense with a touch of romance, crafting a dark, twisty tale of grief and obsession. The flashbacks reveal Meredith's unraveling and build the mystery of her husband's death. While some twists are predictable, the plot keeps you hooked with its short, engaging chapters.
Meredith is a compelling character, making questionable choices yet evoking empathy. The ending is shocking, making this a satisfying read for thriller fans.
Vi Keeland's hand into suspense is a success, offering a fresh, intriguing story that's hard to put down.
Very grateful to the publisher for this copy, opinions are my own
Vi Keeland has outdone herself with The Unraveling. The first thriller from this romance author delivers with a sexy, twisty story that will leave you breathless until the very last page. The story follows Meredith, a psychiatrist working to rebuild her life following a tragic accident involving her husband and an innocent mother and young child. Enter Gabriel, the widower to the victims of the accident. What follows is a crazy game of cat and mouse that leads you to question who is really decieving who.
I could not put this book down. Meredith is a really troubled character who makes some questionable choices but you can't help but take this journey with her. It all but seems that she's lost her mind until a few shocking twists take everything you thought you knew and turn it on its head.
Be prepared to stay up late with this one because you won't want to put it down.
Thank you to the author and NetGalley for the chance to read and review this arc.
Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review
Woah! The Unraveling by Vi Keeland was a terrific debut! It was engaging and it sucks you in immediately.
A real page turner read that keeps you enthralled making you feel totally appalled.
Vi Keeland is so good at steering this book a certain way so that you think you know the outcome then comes the twist.
I felt this was very well written because it did keep me engaged and wanting to find out the conclusion.
If you want a fast-paced, rapid page-turner and an itch to know more, then this is the book for you.
Thank You NetGalley and Atria/Emily Bestler Books for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
I had to pick my jaw up from the floor after this one! If you’re looking for an edge of your seat, fast paced thriller that will have you wanting to read more and more, this is it!
Meredith is a psychiatrist in New York, whose life was turned upside down after a tragic accident her husband was involved in. Due to the accident, her license was suspended. When she’s finally able to practice again, you’ll never guess who walks in as one of her very first patients. This client could cost her everything, but somehow, she just can’t say no.
I’m shocked this is the author’s first thriller! I hope this isn’t her last! I can’t wait to read more of her books!
