This was such a different read. I didn't think that I would love it this much, but I did.
I love Keelands type of writting so this was an easy 5 stars
New genre from this author, and it was quite an intriguing read. It has a bit of a slow burn when it comes to the suspense. You're not quite sure exactly what it is that makes this more than a drama until further along in the story and things unfold (or Unravels.) ;) There are subtle hints/clues along the way if you are looking for them. Plenty of suspicions. It starts with her obsession of finding out how a person can be happy after a tragedy (her psychiatrist brain wanting to understand,) but that turns into so much more, and soon she's finding herself in a bit of a dangerous situation. It's narrated by the Protagonist and for the most part, it's written as though she was talking to her husband... her dead husband. She may be the kind of character some people don't like, due to her actions. I, personally never not liked her, but there were times I wanted to shake some sense into her. She's also the kind of character that will gather some sympathy (at least for certain things.) I feel she does redeem herself by the end of the book. It flips back and forth between the past and present. There is no violence within the pages, but there is some sexual content, not a lot, but some. There is much mention of death of a loved one, including a child (so if you are sensitive to this, be forewarned.) Overall, it has plenty of that suspense and mind foolery happening.. right until the very last sentence.
*I received an ARC from Netgalley.
Dr. Meredith McCall has suffered a tragic loss and is also on suspension from her job as a psychiatrist. With all of her free time, she makes some choices that could put her in danger. She knows that stalking someone is wrong, she knows she’s drinking too much, and she knows that she needs professional help. Once her suspension is over and she returns to work, the man she’s been stalking shows up in her office as a new patient. Now Meredith really unravels.
Told in the before and after of her tragedy, this thriller will keep you guessing. I thoroughly enjoyed this and highly recommend it. Many thanks to NetGalley and Atria Books for this 4-star read.
This book is insanely good! It is a fabulous thriller.
It took me a bit of time to get into, however once I did, I loved every page.
It’s very well written and super clever. The ending brings everything together and is great.
This is definitely a 5 star read and I’ll recommend to anyone!
All the makings of a great thriller! I spent a lot of time questioning whether the main character was sane or insane. I liked not really knowing if she was truly perceiving reality or not. Lots and lots of twists! However, the writing style was a little simple.
This book was such a twisty, insane ride. i really couldn't stop reading and I am SHOOK by that ending. I would recommend this 100%. Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for the digital ARC!
Vi Keeland's venture into new territory with "The Unraveling" is a captivating journey that demonstrates her versatility as an author. As someone who eagerly anticipates Keeland's romance novels, I was intrigued to see her explore different themes and genres. "The Unraveling" did not disappoint.
With her signature style, Keeland weaves a tale filled with passion, intrigue, and emotional depth. The characters are vibrant and multifaceted, drawing readers into their world from the very first page. The chemistry between the protagonists crackles with intensity, making their interactions sizzle with tension and desire.
What sets "The Unraveling" apart is its exploration of themes beyond traditional romance. Keeland delves into issues of self-discovery, healing, and second chances, adding layers of complexity to the narrative. The plot is intricately crafted, keeping readers guessing until the very end.
Overall, "The Unraveling" is a compelling read that showcases Vi Keeland's talent as a storyteller. Fans of romance will find much to love in this novel, while also appreciating the fresh perspective it offers. Keeland's foray into new territory is a welcome addition to her body of work, and I eagerly await her next endeavor.
Thank you to NetGalley for the early copy of Vi Keeland's first dip into the world of suspense. She has hit it out of the park with this thriller surprised right to the end of the book. Well written, and kept me hooked and up into the wee hours finishing this one. So Good, I love her romance but she is gonna make her space in Thriller world.
Thank you for this advance copy. I really enjoyed this book. It kept me up all night reading, I just could not stop!
A dark, intriguing twisty thriller.
This book literally sucked me in and kept me turning page after page because I just HAD to know what was going on 🤣
The plot follows our FMC Meredith who seems to be aimlessly wandering around the city. What we can gather is there has been some sort of traumatic situation that has resulted in her husband being gone (whether he is deceased or elsewhere is unknown). In addition, another family was involved and as a result a man named Gabriel lost his wife and young daughter who are both confirmed to be deceased.
Meredith spots Gabriel on her walks but he doesn’t seem to be anywhere near the grieving widow she expected to see, so she finds herself obsessively stalking him, waiting to find cracks in this facade of his. How can he possibly be happy and going about with his life whilst she is drowning in misery and dysfunction?
The chapters alternate between the past and present day. What starts out as a dream inspired loving relationship between Meredith and her husband soon starts to devolve and there is a sense of foreboding and impending doom as we await whatever big event we are leading up to.
I felt sorry for Meredith, seeing things from her POV I wanted her to get out of the toxic relationship as soon as possible in the hopes of prevent whatever present day issues she’s dealing with now.
I was also so suspicious of Gabriel from day one. I would also be confused as to how he could be living his life so happily. I suspected him of being more involved and aware of his surroundings from the very beginning, although involved in what I wasn’t sure until I got to the big explanation.
This book is so twisty and confusing as the reader I had no idea where it was going at any given moment. There are definitely a few surprises that caught me off guard.
I had a lot of fun being absorbed into this plot, I highly recommend the read!

This was the first book I've read of Vi Keeland's, and her first thriller. Wow, just wow. This was one heck of a psychological ride!
Synopsis: After a devastating loss, New York City psychiatrist Meredith McCall finds herself adrift. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she encounters Gabriel Wright, a man with a tragic connection to her past. Obsessed with understanding how he manages to thrive while her own world crumbles, Meredith begins to follow him. But when Gabriel becomes her patient, she faces an ethical dilemma: treating him would breach professional boundaries, yet she can’t turn him away.
Vi Keeland’s writing pulls you into the story, making it hard to put down. The tension and suspense kept me on edge and I read it in 2 days. Without giving too much a way and ruining the fun, I'll just say Meredith's internal struggle is fascinating and disturbing and adds many layers to the storyline. Obsession, dark desires, emotions and twists make this an excellent read! Available July 9th 2024!
The Unraveling was a fantastic read. The plot had me guessing all the way through. I could not put it down. Highly recommend.

Wild - completely wild. As a lover of suspense and mystery, this book had me in the edge of my seat and left me wondering just what was going to happen next. I was completely enthralled and could not put it down. The ending made me re-think exactly what I thought I read. A must read.
This was fantastic. I loved every second and couldn’t put it down. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for my honest review!
OK guys. This is a good one. Not very often does a thriller leave me speechless, but WOW. The ending shook me.
Our main character, Meredith, is a psychiatrist in NYC. A tragedy has taken place in her life and she's spending her days roaming the city for hours on end. She's drinking too much wine, not sleeping, and just roaming. And then she sees Gabriel Wright in a coffee shop. Gabriel is on the other side of this tragedy that took place... but Gabriel looks happy. Meredith can't understand how he can be so carefree and actually smiling sooo she begins to follow him. She wants to see if this happiness is for real or not. Well, Meredith's therapist tells her to knock it off and find some healthier habits, which she slowly does. But no sooner than her life is settling a little bit, guess who walks into her office as a patient? Gabriel himself. Oh boy. Things get crazy. Meredith knows it's morally and ethically wrong to treat him as a patient, but she does it anyway.
This story pulls you in. The characters are mysterious, dark, and unhinged. They sort of remind me of me in my early 20s. Well, I wasn't quite this bad. I kept reading and reading because I just had to know what was going to happen. I thought I knew, but man I was so far from the end result, I wasn't even in the ball park. This book is also very darkly seductive. I've never read this author, but this is her first psychological thriller. She usually writes romance which is not something I read. So be prepared for some crazy seduction, totally unhinged characters, and non stop action. I wanted to tell someone about this book, but no one I know reads thrillers. So I just sat here with my mouth open when I finished.
Thank you so much to Netgalley and Atria Books for the ARC. I greatly appreciate it. I cannot recommend this book more highly. READ IT. Time to read something a bit more mellow to calm down.
This is a great psychological thriller! I enjoyed this book very much. Very well written, you really get the feel of each character in the book. Excellent pacing in the book keeps you wants more. The author not only adds mystery and surprise, she adds a couple spicy hot scenes too. I look forward to more books by Vi Keeland!

Umm wow. Twisty and surprising. Like a good thriller, it left me asking what the f*ck?
As a romance reader, Vi Keeland is a one click author for me and when I found out she had written her first thriller???? Gimme. She’s a mastermind at story telling and the way she told this psychological thriller story was fantastic! I was captivated from page 1.
