A cute and great book about lost library books! Illustrations were great and loved the story line! I just wish it was a little longer.
Bob is the favorite book by most kids at school. Bob normally gets to go on all sorts of adventures with the kids who check him out. When Sebastian checks him out, he forgets about him and Bob gets lost. Will Bob ever be read again? Will he return to school? A cute story for kids about taking care of books and the love of getting lost in a story.
I received an eARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
This book was okay for a picture book. I liked the story, but I’m not sure how well it would engage a younger audience. The list in the back telling readers how to take care of a book was a very cute addition. It wasn’t an awful book, but I just didn’t enjoy it as much as others I’ve read recently.
I liked this book. Bob, the all-time favorite book at the school library, gets overdue! All the kids want to check Bob out, and he gets to go on a lot of adventures with them. But one day Sebastian checks Bob out and this is where the trouble begins.
This book teaches children the importance of how to care for borrowed books, keep food & drinks far away, and do not under any circumstances dog ear books! Read them and enjoy them, then return them and let other kids enjoy them!
This was a cutely written and illustrated book. Perfect for any library.

This would be a great book to start with when introducing kids to the library and borrowing books, teaching them to respect books is so important

The importance of taking care of books from the book’s point of view.
My thoughts:
🤔 Cute and useful story.
🤔 The bright, vivid illustrations fit the story perfectly.
🤔 As a librarian, I love stories about taking care of library books. I think Bob would be a great partner in teaching students the importance of taking care of your library books. I especially loved the bulleted list at the end titled “Book Care Tips from Bob!”

This was a delightful book. It will keep kids entertained and teach them a little lesson in responsibility. The pictures were very well done. This will also encourage a love of reading in kids.
This book is so cute! Bob the book is accustomed to being the most popular book at the school library. But then Sebastian checks him out and loses track of him! Eventually Sebastian recovers Bob and finds he has a new favorite book.
In addition to being a simple, engaging story, the book also helps teach little readers how to be good stewards of their books. Hopefully Bob will get his wish of having more adventures someday!
This was such a missed opportunity that i'm sad about this one. Overdue is about an adventurous book called bob who got forgotten after being borrowed. For a book to be full of adventures this could have turned into a cute little adventure book for bob to re-connect with the child and be an entertaining adventure book for children. But this was such an anti-climatic book. I wished Gloria used her own title and played with it to create a little adventure story instead of what we got.
Lastly, thank you to netgalley for providing an advanced copy for an honest review.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me a glimpse into the life of a book.
Reading this book multiple times throughout the school year would be very beneficial...and don't just wait until the end of the year.
At the very least, you will need multiple copies!
If only Bob could speak for himself. But no, we must do it for him!
We are definitely a book family. So when I saw this story I knew I had to read it. It was great! This story is told from the library books point of view and what happens to him. He is the favorite book in the library, always being checked out and read. That is until Sebastian comes along. He doesn’t take care of his books and even loses them. Bob, the book, is so upset and worried that he will never be found and won’t be read again. When Sebastian has to find him, then he begins to read. Soon they find their connection and Bob is once again treasured. I love this fun story. My kids loved seeing the adventure the book has to go through. I love that the story teaches children about the importance of taking care of their books. The fun and adorable illustrations are a perfect fit for the story. You will love this adventure.Share it with your family.
I found the characters to be loveable. I didn’t find that the plot did much. It would be a book I would leave for a substitute teacher to read to my class or a book in the library for book lovers to read.
I loved the comic-type style of Overdue! My daughter absolutely loved the illustration style and was completely captivated by the pictures and colours. I loved the message that the story had, and how it teaches kids to take care of their library books. The font was easy to read and the text boxes (comic style) really popped and made it easy to follow along! I love humanizing things like books to help kinds learn life lessons and responsibility! My daughter and I both thoroughly enjoyed this book! Definitely recommend!
When a favorite book goes missing Bob knows he needs to get back to school where other kids can read him. A note comes home saying that Sebastian needs to return the book...
This is such an adorable book. The illustrations the message are a great way for teachers librarians to talk about caring for books.
I can see this book being read to over and over again - a must read favorite.
This was so cute!! It teaches about borrowing books and the importance of caring for borrowed books. The illustrations were the best and I really enjoyed it and would recommend it.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Firstly I received overdue from NetGalley, now with that said let’s get right to it. Over due the misadventure of bob the book is super adorable, I fell in love with the characters in a way it took me back to my favorite childhood movie the page master in a small way. Without spoiling anything let’s just say Sebastian who is the main character learns a lesson in the end. He had found a new love in reading and learned he can jump into new adventures and worlds just by opening a book.
Overdue is short but sweet and to the point. The story and illustrations work in tandem to help keep you engaged with the story. Even if you were a beginner level reader and couldn’t read very well the illustrations are enough to understand the story. I absolutely loved following bobs own adventure but like I said the story was very short and I really wanted more. Overall you got a story told and it was sweet and simple. I wouldn’t mind seeing this be a series.
This was a cute picture book with examples and easy to follow instructions about taking care of library books. (Books in general, really)
Bob is a very popular library book. We see him go from house to house as different children check him out. They all take very good care of him…that is until Sebastian checks him out.
Sebastian lets his little sister eat near the book, and his brother use it with toys. In the end, he didn’t even remember to read the book and it ends up getting “lost” when their dad moves it into the kitchen on a shelf.
Months pass and Sebastian has a note sent home to please return the book. Finally Bob is found! Sebastian ends up reading it multiple times and then returns it. He ends up telling the librarian that it’s his favorite and she lets him take it home for the summer.
Overall, a cute idea and a good idea for kids to see what happens when they lose track of library books!
This is an adorable story about a book that's overdue, lost and scared. I really enjoyed the illustrations and the storyline and will definitely be purchasing this for my library.
This is a cute picture book from the perspective of a book. I am excited to add this to my collection to use at the beginning of the year when establishing routines with my classes!
