Cute book!
The art was great (impressive lighting techniques), the story was cute, and the message was heartwarming. It definitely was giving: kids can (and will) find books they truly enjoy and then develop a love for reading and literature. At the same time, it can teach a fun-sized lesson about consequences and how to solve certain problems. For example, Sebastian's book is way overdue and he and his siblings lose movie night privileges as a result.
All in all, this book was entertaining and cute, I would just recommend editing some of the dialogue to make it less suggestive and more appropriate for the intended audience...kids.
Super cute book! Contains a good life lesson to respect books but presents it in a fun way for kids. My kids loved it!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the advanced reader copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
Thank you to the publisher and to NetGalley for the eARC! This was an adorable story that all book lovers can appreciate! The adventures of an elementary school library book- now those books go on quite the adventure! Every library lover goes through a book being overdue and trying to find it (especially young readers) and it was cute to see this through the books perspective. Books just want to be read and not hidden away on a shelf! Absolutely adorable!
Adorable book that is the “Toy Story” of books. It’s the account of a book’s journey once it’s been borrowed. Told through its perspective it’s funny and entertaining.
This was a cute boo and paired with a perfect message for all the students who check out their books from their school library, local library or classroom. Book etiquette is a skill taught and this book is great for teaching this lesson. Bob is so affordable and funny! Always treat your books with kindness and care.
I'm obsessed with Bob. This book would be a great tool for a school librarian to teach young students the etiquette and rules for borrowing at the library. I think we can all recall a class favourite from the school library that everyone was bursting to take home. Creative, cute illustrations, and ultimately a good lesson.
A cute book about Bob, a library book. One day, Bob gets checked out by Sebastian but is lost before Sebastian can read him. However, he is eventually found and cherished. A cute book to teach kids about treating books well!
Very cute. Bob is one of the most popular books at the school library. He loves to be borrowed and appreciated. One day Sebastian borrows and forgets him. We follow Bob as he worries about never being found or read again. When Sebastian does find and read him, Bob becomes his favorite book.
It ends with a little page of Bob's tips for how to take care of your books. I found it cute, and kiddo paid attention, but was not as enamored with this one as others we read together.
This was really cute and a great one for librarians to read at the beginning of the year or at a book/library themed storytime!
I enjoyed the comic-like format and illustrations.
A cute read!
Such a cute book! It’s perfect for all school libraries and maybe reading it in classrooms before the children check out books.
Loved how the book goes everywhere!
Cute comic strip like illustrations.
It was a fun read with a special lesson to be responsible and treat your books with care.
Thank you to NetGalley and the author for an advanced reader copy this was such a darling book.
This was absolutely adorable. I genuinely felt emotion when Bob thought he was lost forever! This book MUST become a staple of library story times. Highly recommend ALL children's librarians grab a copy for their library!
"Overdue" is the perfect book for any school librarian or classroom teacher. This is a great anchor text for book care and discussing library policies and procedures at the start of the school year and there are several crafts and activities that I can already think of to use with this book. I will be purchasing this title to use with students.
I received an ARC of this children's book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This book is so adorable. The pictures are really cute the story is fantastic!
This was the cutest! My kids loved reading this one with me and we're going to need a physical copy to add to our bookshelf.
It's a fun book to show how books "feel" about being forgotten, hidden, read too closely to food, etc. but also the joy of reading for book and child. The illustrations are cute and catchy. This is a book I'll happily read the 183,847,583 times requested!

I absolutely loved this book! My daughter and I read this together. I thought it was brilliant and it teaches children about how to care for their library books. Every library should have this. I will definitely be buying a hard copy.
Thank you for allowing me to read this ARC!
Thank you to NetGalley for giving me a digital ARC of Overdue.
This is an adorable book that teaches the importance of taking care of your library books (and all books in general). The lovely anthropomorphized book is comedic and brings you through his chaotic journey to find his way back to the library.
This is a great book for kids who are checking out books for the first time and need to learn proper library etiquette.
This was a cute story about a book that goes missing, but I found that a lot of it was fluff (why was it necessary for Sebastian's dad to move Bob? I thought this would come back later, but couldn't Bob have just been buried in Sebastian's stuff? And why did Sebastian's dad move Bob to the cookbook collection????? All my questions surround Sebastian's dad and /what does he think he's doing?????/)
I thought the tips at the end for library book care were a nice touch and a great conversation piece, but I didn't think library book care was the big takeaway from this book (the takeaway is.......dad is confused...........)
(Ok ok I know I'm being super picky about this, but I think this is due to my mother gaslighting me as a child when it came to my belongings and how I needed to "take care of [my] stuff" when she would hide my things from me as a psychotic form of punishment. I just didn't love the fact that his dad literally says, "This entire family needs to be more responsible. No movie night for anyone unless we find that book," when HE was the one who moved it from Sebastian's bedroom to a place that made zero sense. Did he think Sebastian just took a cookbook to put in his room for fun?? A cookbook that looks like a children's storybook????? And then he never owns up to it or apologizes or anything?? I get it, Sebastian should have taken more care of the book, but he's a straight-up child who is learning these skills.)
Overdue: The Misadventure of Bob the Book by Gloria Koster is a picture book from Bob's point of view. Bob is the most wanted book at Wisdom Hill Elementary, but at Sebastian's house, he gets lost in a mess and then put on a shelf for months! Finally Bob is found and Sebastian decides to give the book a try and loves it!
The illustrations were good but could have been better. I laughed out loud a few times on my own and can't wait to read this one to my own kiddos!
This book is a good reminder for kids to appreciate and take care of books and also to read them! I also liked the idea of the Book Care Tips page at the back of the book.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the Advanced Reading Copy!
A popular book is unread and forgotten in this cartoon-style picture book. The book is used to getting read voraciously and then returned, but when one little guy takes the book home, reads him, then misplaces him, everything changes.
The cool part of the story is that when the guy who lost the book finally reads it (for some unknown reason), he loves it and seems to find a love for reading.
This isn't a book that would do great as a group readaloud, and my kids didn't demand seconds.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.
What if you were a book that was borrowed from the school library and the child not only forgot to return you, but completely forgot about you all together? This is what happens in this cute story about a forgotten library book who finally is remembered and returned. I liked this book - thought the illustrations were OK - looked a little computer generated for me, but I love old-school illustrations, so it might just be me. Cute story, though!
