I really enjoyed this one and can't wait to share this with my elementary aged kids.
Tana is a great character who is helpful to her friend and her family.
I liked the inclusion of her Chotaw heritage too.
And the illustrations are really lovely and have a lot of color.
Thanks NetGalley for this ARC!
The first in a new children's series (5-8 is the recommendation) about Tana, a second grader who loves to cook. In this first one, Tana and her friends must try out for a school play. However, her friend Ana is very nervous about speaking in front of people. Tana tries to think up ways to help her friend.
This was very cute! I think this was easy to read for kids, plus there is a dictionary of words at the end if kids did not know them. I also appreciate the inclusion of Tana's Choctaw heritage.
I received my copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I loved this book so so much. The illustartions are absolutely adorable. I love that the book included the recipes and that it has a glossary at the end of the book, as well as the 'talk about it' and 'write about it' chapters. It has good indigenous representation, ecpecially for kids that don't live in America/are not American and can now learn about a new culture. I will be reading the other books by this author!!!
I’ve never heard of the Tana Cooks book series but I think my students would really enjoy it. In Tana Cooks with Care, Tana finds a way to help one of her friends who is scared of taking part in a school play. Tana and her friends find a reasonable solution to their problem. Tana’s loving and supportive family is very sweet. The illustrations are colorful and beautifully drawn.
Great insight to Choctaw culture and great representation of friendship and family bonding through cooking. Loved the illustrations as well.
