The real-life examples and exercises included in each chapter make the content relatable and actionable, encouraging readers to actively participate in their journey toward resilience.
What sets this book apart is its emphasis on the interconnectedness of various aspects of resilience. His insights into the importance of self-compassion, mindfulness, and adaptive thinking are particularly valuable, providing a fresh perspective on how to cultivate inner strength.

The 9 Pillars of Resilience discusses behavioral changes that one can make to bring their body and mind to a place of less stress and more cognitive clarity.
Dr. Sideroff addresses ways to rewire your thinking around beliefs that formed early. He suggests these "primitive Gestalts" get in the way of happiness and satisfaction.
The nine pillars are full of practical advice that could be helpful for someone who is unable to work with a cognitive behavioral therapist to work through thought patterns.
Clinical psychologist Dr. Stephen Sideroff explains the science of stress, how to determine your optimal level of stress, and how becoming more resilient increases your window of optimal performance and the amount of stress you can tolerate without negative effects. He provides a stress symptom checklist and resilience questionnaire so you can assess your current resilience profile and observe how it changes over time. He then explains his 9 Pillars of Resilience and provides exercises for improving in each of these areas. Importantly, he spends considerable time addressing common obstacles to success, many of which relate to patterns learned in childhood.
While each of the 9 Pillars could easily be the topic of its own book, this book offers a nice mix of easily understandable scientific explanations and practical self-help to become more adaptable in each area. It requires considerable commitment to work through all of the exercises, but I appreciated Dr. Sideroff’s explanation of being On The Path or Off The Path and the signposts listed at the end of each chapter to help you answer that question. I particularly liked the discussion of how superstitions and other unproductive behaviors become habitual, and the “walking the plank” exercise.
I think anyone could probably benefit from reading this book, which is intended to help you improve your health, happiness, and personal success.
I received a free advanced review copy of the ebook through NetGalley. I volunteered to provide an honest review.
I truly enjoyed this book. I have been doing a lot of trauma work lately and this book takes lessons from resilience studies and applies them to the mind and body. Resilience is a part of my day to day work but I never thought of it for overall health within the body. This book provides lessons, real examples, and exercises to live fully and thrive. Excellent work. Thank you for allowing me to be an ARC reader for this book.
