This young adult book is great for those looking for a RWRB feel in something more appropriate for younger readers, with a spin on The Princess Diaries.

I love to read fun, lighthearted MM romcoms, something that lets me relax and smile, and this fits the bill.

Jamie and Erik were awesome together. Erik helped Jamie prepare for his new role as prince, and Jamie helped Erik realize he can go for what he wants. I loved both characters!

I predict there will be a lot of buzz about this book the closer it gets to publication.

I loved how the character, Jamie, and Erick, blend together and make a fascinating story. This is a well written story by Cale Dietrich and it is enjoyable to read the plot of the story.

Red, white and royal blue and Romeo and Juliet vibes, you know....without them dying at the end. I love Romeo and Juliet and I definitely got like a modern tale while reading. I had a good time reading the rules of royalty and think that you should give it a read.

very cute and enjoyable queer book. i loved the story and the characters! i had been eyeing this book when i had heard about it for quite some time and i am truly glad it didn't disappoint.

This is a perfect book for the fans of the Princess Diaries and Red White and Royal Blue. The romance between Jamie and Erik was great and I had a lot of fun reading it and see them slowly work togethers their wants and desires while also balacing the fact that they are both royals and their family's image and traditions are important. The dialogue is snappy and quick which makes their conversation sound realistic and even in moments where the cahracters get deem and vulnerable, the writign is not cringe and instead feels like two people genuinly struggling with what is happening. There was some great moments of humor between them and also great acts of love and caring. I highly reccomend this book. It is a fun read and the characters are exteremely loveable.

This is very much a Red White & Royal Blue knockoff (the throwaway line about the Prince of England being rumored to be gay made me cringe because it felt like such a callout to RWRB) mixed with the Princess Diaries. But that isn't necessarily a bad thing! I like having a book that librarians can point younger teens to as an alternative to RWRB. I also think Dietrich's writing has improved a lot.

Who doesn't love a tales of two princes?
I really enjoyed this super sweet royal romance.
Jamies world is flipped upside down when his mom tells him the truth.  Everything from that moment on is a whirlwind of intense craziness. Learning he is a prince from a country far away. During this story he meets a wonderful guy who is brought on to help teach him the ways.
Prince Erik is brought in to help the new prince adjust to royalty. Though he must leave his own county to make this happen.
These two have hit it off.  But must keep their feelings a secret when Erik is told by his Gran, the queen, he will not be allowed to pursue Jamie.
This is an incredibly fun story.  Super sweet, amazing characters and a testament of true love.  Which is worth fighting for.

This book was so fun! It had a Princess Diaries/Heartstopper feel with only a bit of angst and lovable characters. I do feel like it ended just when I needed more from the story. I hope we get a sequel. I could also see this as a wonderful movie. It's definitely YA and not spicy in the least but as the main characters are only 17, I'm okay with that.

When I had the opportunity to read an e-arc of The Rules of Royalty, I jumped on it because I loved If This Gets Out, and I also enjoyed The Friend Scheme. However, this one, in comparison, felt overly simplistic. The writing style is too straightforward and direct, leaning much more toward telling than showing, and I could barely differentiate between both narrators given that they had little to no defining characteristics or personalities. For those reasons, I couldn’t finish the book. The concept seemed intriguing–I do thoroughly enjoy a good royalty trope–and maybe with some solid editing, the writing will be able to do it justice.

A sweet and enjoyable queer take on the Princess Diaries. I found myself wishing I could read Stefan and Elise's story by the end of the book.

I have been a fan of Cale Dietrich since reading Love Interest in 2017, so I was delighted to get a chance to read The Rule of Royalty.

Is it reminiscent of Red, White, and Royal Blue and The Princess Diaries? Absolutely. But, I loved those books, so I was won over by the charm of Erik and Jaime:

A regency romance, one of my favorite genres. This book hit it out of the park! Don’t skip over this one!

I thought this was a cute, fun, and lovable story! The description was very accurate describing it as a mix of princess diaries, it was the exact vibes and idea to that and I loved it. The characters were very enjoyable, this made their development/relationship more amusing and making me want to support them even more.

I will be recommending this book and posting more reviews as the publishing date gets closer. I'me excited to see where this book goes, this would be something I WOULD WATCH AS A SHOW OR FILM AS WELL.

Modern day telling of a fairytale and it really made it fun to read, it was't a difficult read either which made it easy to focus and continue reading. It did gives vibes of red, white, royal blue which was great!

I am disappointed in this book. The summary was all I wanted as someone who grew up loving The Princess Diaries and loves the Royal trope thanks to Merlin Fanfics.

First of all, I did not realize that it was YA when I got the ARC. That is fine but it was a bit of a surprise when the characters were 17. I thought the characters were sweet and their relationship was very cute. But there were some things so unbelievable that it took me straight out. Firstly, Jamie did not seem to care that he suddenly had a whole new family. If I found out I had a dad and a brother that would be my priority rather than a cute boy. It seemed like he didn't have any interest at all in his new brother. Then he called all the royals first names only. This seems way too casual for foreign royals or even parents of your boyfriend/friends. I still call my friend's parents Mr. and Mrs. Also, is much tell rather than showing. Some of the writing seemed like it was a first draft. There was never a stated reason why one character forbids a relationship besides convenient conflict. I would love to see this book have a couple more drafts to perfect some of the flaws. I did enjoy how well-adjusted the family dynamics were. No silly dynamics of jealousy between siblings or step-parents and bio-parents. It is overall very fluffy and an easy, fast read so teens may enjoy it more than me despite the flaws.

I am thankful to have gotten the eARC for free from Netgalley and Wednesday Books so I can leave my voluntary and honest review.

Overall, I love the story and I want to see this succeed! The problem is I am unsure if it’ll go through the much needed edit before it is published in December.

Right now it comes off as not only a first draft but one written by an inexperienced writer which is not the case.
That being said, the story is sweet and for a young teen it can be delightful for them to read.. it is a clean romance and if it was just a little bit less in the passion (which doesn’t go beyond kissing) it could be a good book for middle grade readers who are ready for romance.

When the book is ready to be published I intend to reread it and will amend my rating. I will write my specific issues privately to the publisher as they aren’t served here.

One thing that I liked about this book is that while very unrealistic the characters were very well adjusted with fairly healthy relationships with those around them. While real life doesn’t work like that, it is a work of fiction and can give folks something as a standard to aspire to.

So adorable, so heartwarming. I had been so intrigued by the description of the book and hadn't been left wanting at all. This is the perfect story for when you need to settle in for something warm, comfortable, and engaging without fear of heartbreak. Reads just how a TV movie feels, but in every great way possible.

2.5 rounded up. I loved the author's If This Gets Out, but this one fell flat for me. You'll have to be willing to suspend a great deal of disbelief to get past a prince of one country training the prince of another country on etiquette. I kept imagining a just-discovered teen prince of England being tutored on English customs by the teen prince of Sweden vs. an English etiquette expert and PR team. Beyond that, it felt a bit simplistic and low stakes. That said, though it wasn't my cup of tea, the characters were really likable, and there was some good modeling of owning up to mistakes and being sensitive to others.
