Description
"A must read for all who love, love." —Kosoko Jackson, USA Today Bestselling author of The Forest Demands Its Due
Two princes from neighboring countries fall into a whirlwind royal romance in this sparkling spin on The Princess Diaries by Cale Dietrich.
Act like a prince, but don’t fall for one.
Jamie Johnson has never been the centre of attention, and he’s perfectly okay with that. His entire world unravels as a hidden truth emerges: he's the heir to the throne of Mitanor, a sun-drenched southern European country, and the press is ready to expose this secret to the world. An invitation to spend the summer in his father's palace arrives, giving Jamie a chance to get to know the man he never thought he’d meet.
Meanwhile, in a northern European kingdom known for its cold climate and stoic royals, Erik Lindstrom, the spare prince, grapples with the upcoming marriage of his golden-boy elder brother. With the country’s spotlight trained on his family more than ever, Erik feels sidelined and tightly controlled. So when he receives an offer to tutor the newly found American prince in the ways of royalty, he accepts without hesitation.
At a magnificent summer palace, Erik guides Jamie through the intricacies of royal etiquette, politics, and history. What neither prince anticipates is the connection that sparks between them—one that challenges both of their futures. Now each must make a choice: follow their hearts, or the time-honored royal path where crown and country reigns supreme, no matter the personal cost.

This book has it all; passion, love, and an engaging storyline. The characters’ journey was both heartwarming and entertaining. Definitely a five-star read that I’ll be revisiting!
This book was simply adorable! I loved how everything came together and I absolutely adored Jamie and Erik. The whole cast of characters was so well written, but they were especially perfect. It warms my little queer heart to see such fantastic queer writers and queer stories! This was a magnificent experience to add to the rest. Kudos on a great book and I’d love to see more from this author!
The Princess Diaries meets the YA version of Red, White and Royal Blue. 🩷
Jamie is just a regular American guy with friends and plans. Until, on his seventeenth birthday, he finds out he’s actually the son of a king. Soon, Jamie’s whole life changes as he’s whisked off to Mitanor to meet the family he never knew he had. He also meets Prince Erik of Sunstad who is everything Jamie ever imagined a Prince would be. The two fall into like and lust quickly, but there’s one big problem. Erik’s family doesn’t approve and want him to be with someone else. Can the two princes fight for love overcome the challenges set before them?
This was so fun and adorable! I ate up every word! I loved Jamie and Erik and their romantic story! I enjoyed following Jamie on his journey of becoming a prince and realizing all that he can do with that title. This felt like a real storybook romance and I was elated on how it all turned out.
I highly recommend this read!
The Rules of Royalty is The Princess Diaries meets Young Royals with a sprinkling of Red White & Royal Blue, and I am here for it!
Jamie, a normal American teenager, finds out his biological father is a king. When he goes overseas to meet him, his father asks teenage prince, Erik, to tutor Jamie on all things royalty. Of course their relationship does not stay teacher and student and Erik’s grandmother, the Queen, does not approve, leading to a smidge of teenage angst and a lot of cute moments.
This is a lighthearted easy read that got me out of a reading slump and made me happy.
