Set during WWII, is the story of Maxim and his brother Lukas. We meet them when they are both very young and we travel through their lives as they live through the war in Russia. If you're not familiar with the statistics of WWII in Russia and Germany, throughout you will find those facts. The boys mature throughout the book as they have to grow up during wartime.
