A good, fast paced story but let down by the writing. There were too many bits that didn't work or make sense and the ending was poor.

Joe and Beth are engaged but have some problems. Beth has some issues with mental health and addiction and Joe is struggling with some bad decisions concerning money. When Beth’ father dies suddenly she spirals down emotionally and only finds comfort in alcohol. But mixing vodka with her meds does not help her. Far the opposite. She gets very paranoid and thinks everybody is after her. Joe tries to be supportive but he has other urgent problems as well. Then one day Beth wakes up in hospital, vaguely remembering Joe and a knife and a lot of blood.

The first half of the book we see Beth getting more and more out of control and Joe getting himself more and more in trouble. After a while Beth really got on my nerves with her paranoia and her unwillingness to face her drinking problem. She therefore is a very unreliable narrator because I never knew if it was all in her head or was there someone after her. I would have also liked to kick Joe because he really did not help Beth when it was clear she could not help herself. And the whole story was running in circles.

In the second half of the book we see Beth getting better mentally after she was attacked (or attacked somebody herself). But she can’t really remember what happened that night. This half was at first a bit better than the first but I saw the twists coming and the end felt very unsatisfying. I still have questions.

This whole book feels like it was written in a hush. Towards the end it gets faster and faster but also blurred in the details. Overall it was an easy and quick read but the characters are all unlikeable and act most of the time very stupid. The abrupt ending and the lack of explaining at least a few things did not work in favor of my rating.

Well, I wasn't expecting that!
Such an emotional, poignant read covering themes of grief, addiction, domestic abuse, deceit and so much more in a 'he said, she said' story that is both twisty and compelling.
The twists are truly surprising and are like a punch to the gut when they hit. The emotional highs and lows of grief, mental ill health and the descent into addiction feel palpably real and really drive the narrative forward and keep the pages turning. Read this one very quickly as I couldn't put it down. 4.5 stars from me!

It opens with the discovery of two bodies, each with a bloody knife in their hand; both just about still breathing. Who tried to kill who? Who is telling the truth when their relationship, which on face value is perfect, is anything but?
I like dual-point-of-view books, and with this one flipping between the viewpoints of engaged couple, Joe and Beth (the knife holders) showing each of them spiralling made for a very enjoyable read. The shortish chapters offer the reader the chance of an emotional break which may be needed, given some of the content (mental health, alcoholism, dysfunctional families, etc.). I think I sympathised with each of their situations, rather than actually liking them as people.
If you like psychological thrillers, this one is for you, especially as the author’s previous experience and research enable her to tackle difficult subjects with empathy. A trigger warning may be needed for some readers.
Thank you to NetGalley, HarperCollins UK, and One More Chapter for the eARC.

Summary: Joe and Beth are a seemingly perfect couple. Seemingly is the key word. Underneath the surface, Joe is hiding a big secret. Beth is struggling after losing her father and turning back to the bottle. The police get called to the home one night. Why are both Joe and Beth lying near death and both holding knives?
The book is divided into parts, some flashbacks as we find out more about their relationship. It is told in alternating POVs. It is clear that someone isn't telling the truth about what is happening.

Review: I'm torn over this one. Don't get me wrong. The book has a good hook. There are parts that are compulsively readable, but the two main characters are not very likable. Beth is so annoying and makes so many terrible decisions in this book. Joe isn't much better. Some of the other supporting characters are also tiresome. I definitely had to read to the end to figure things out. I was able to guess the twists ahead of time, which is validating and disappointing at the same time. The ending felt abrupt, and I would've liked a little more to tie up loose ends.

Rating: 3 stars

A big thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins for providing this ARC for me to review.

I found this to be ok.

The chapters were short, some only being a page or so but the story was so quick, it seemed fast forward to weeks later at a time. The storyline was interesting, although a bit far fetched at times and I did think that the ending was a let down, with other things not really being wrapped up properly for me.

Thank you to Netgalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Joe and his fiancé Beth are both lying on the kitchen floor, bloody and with a knife in their hand. This intriguing opening caught me attention and held it for about 3/4 of the book. The tangled web that is their relationship is slowly taken apart and we learn that each has their own secrets, and issues. Beth has a drinking problem, but denies it, Joe has made some irresponsible financial decisions. But how did it come to this end? A good story, well written, just a bit too lengthy.

Beth and Joe are engaged. Beth’s father has died, and she is struggling. The only solace she has is in a bottle. While Joe is always at work in meetings. Due to the charity, he is involved in is in real trouble. Beth thinks Joe doesn’t care and knows that Joe is hiding something. Which makes her feels work and carries on drinking so much that she but her own career as a paralegal in trouble. She also must deal with some threatening letters and phone calls. But when she tells Joe what’s going on. He can’t find any evidence of it. With the relationship in turmoil the pair are engaged in a fight. They both wake up in hospital, but Joe is in a coma. Did she do this or is there someone else out there responsible. But Police make her the number one suspect.
It’s been a while since the authors last book, so I was excited to receive Noelle Holten’s latest novel ‘His truth, Her truth’. I was so intrigued by the blurb. So, I couldn’t wait to start this.
Unfortunately, for me personally this book didn’t work for me I found this rather slow, and I felt that this story was really drawn out. I also thought that the details of their relationship and Beth’s excessive drinking was on repeat for the first half of the book. it only got interesting at the last quarter of the book. 3 stars from me

Before I launch into my review, I would like to say a huge thank you to Noelle Holten, Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter, and Netgalley for the Advanced Digital Reader Copy of this title. For anyone with their eye on this title, here is my personal review of the book to help you decide whether you are interested or not. All opinions offered are my own.

Well, this book certainly does not pull any punches. I know the blurb warns the reader that we were going to find two dead bodies and have to work out how on earth they ended up on the kitchen floor with knives making up part of the scene and series of events that had shortly unfolded. I just was not prepared for it to open on the crime scene. It was a fantastic way to kick start the action and hook me from the word go!

Joe and Beth are in a relationship. Presently, they are suffering a few hurdles following tragic events that have impacted Beth’s mental health. Consequently, what started as a loving relationship with its inconsequential bickering starts to unravel? But how does one go from an engaged couple to bloody bodies on a kitchen floor?

The author paints the scene quite early on that both characters are stressed. Beth is troubled by her father’s illness and usually masks her moods with alcohol. Joe works in a stressful environment advocating for the most vulnerable members of the community. Despite it all they appear to be happy together and recognize that they have each other for support. Both work in an environment that sees them caring for people so to suspect that either one of them would want to hurt each other is preposterous, but people change?

This story had me second guessing everything. From the reviews I had read, I had expected something entirely different to what I eventually read, and although there are domestic violence, manipulation, and coercive traits in the book, it is not clear cut and certainly not presented in a way that one would expect for the most part.

I loved the alternating perspectives as not only did you get an insight into each of these unreliable narrators whether it was down to lies, secrecy, or substance, but you also got to take a look at the same scenario from different perspectives. I am not sure if I really liked any of the characters. I probably sympathized with their situation, and found them to be weak, but yeah, I’m not sure I liked them. That said, I did not despise them either. If I met them in a pub, I would not gravitate towards them wanting to strike up a friendship.

The book dealt with some complex relationships and difficult family dynamics which made for interesting reading if you are made of ‘stronger stuff’. Otherwise, it is likely to be quite triggering.

I enjoyed the story, I liked the guessing game I was playing the entire time, and once I hit the 30% mark, I was unable to put the book down. However, I thought the ending was anticlimactic. There was such a huge, elaborate build up and I felt the ending just came spilling out in a way that did not quite do the book justice.

The short chapters made it easy to whizz through the book. The writing style was easy to digest. The plot was predominantly interesting, and all in all, it was a standout topic in the sense that I do not come across this theme often. Lovers of a who-dun-it will enjoy the book. For this reason, I am stamping this book with 4 out of 5 stars.

3.5 stars really but I'm only knocking it down to 3.5 from 4 because of the ending.

This book is broken down into two parts. Part 1 is told in alternate perspectives between Beth and Joe and I loved this part! The back and forth is what kept it really going for me and wanting to see what happened next. Beth loses her father and kind of spirals and Joe is trying to be helpful as he can while dealing with his own issues. Part 2 is where things started falling apart a little for me because she would drop hints to keep you guessing but then the rest of the way the story developed you pretty much could guess the ending. At the point it was kinda dragging out how you found out. And the way it did finally play out I felt like it was just all of a sudden here ya go and then it ends.

I still enjoyed it though for the most part if you're looking for something that will keep your attention mostly! Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for being able to access the arc.

This book started off confusing me and kept on confusing me for ages but I wanted to know where it was going then it took a sharpe turn and I couldn’t put it down.
I cried a few times and I recognised a little bit of myself in just about all the characters in this book (apart from the perpetrator).
The end I didn’t see coming, but it was a good ending.
Loved it & would recommend this book.

Being a fan of the author's crime fiction novel I was looking forward to reading this psychological thriller. The author's writing experience and her previous work in the probation services is clearly shown here as she deals with difficult subjects such as domestic abuse, addictions, etc but her writing shows her understanding, empathy and experience of such details.
The short punchy chapters are a real success here. Not only does it make you want to read more it also gives that emotional break that is often needed within a story. The story is in chronological order and we hear the perspectives from both of the main characters.
Some people may need a trigger warning before reading the book. It is fiction, but the author deals with circumstances realistically.
I was hooked on the story from start to end and feel that this will be a big success in her already successful writing career.
The book is published on the 1st March in e-book format, paperback on 13th March and, 10th April in audiobook format.
Many thanks to HarperCollins UK, NetGalley and the author, for providing me with an advanced electronic copy of the book in return for an honest and unbiased review

HIS TRUTH HER TRUTH is a psychological thriller by Noelle Holten. This is the first book I have read by Noelle Holten. This was an enjoyable read but I did find it confusing in places. There was a home invasion and a discovery of two bodies, each with a bloody knife in their hands and barely holding on. Who tried to kill them. Did they try to kill each other. This was a wild ride. The story continues with the story going back to before they were stabbed. Each chapter is flipped between Joe's or Beth's viewpoint trying to make you decide who tried to kill them. If you're into psychological thrillers, this one's for you.
Thank you to Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter for my early copy of this book to read.

Wow, Noelle Holten knocks another one clean out of the park! I look so forward to her books and am always impressed that they only get better and better. This was dark and gritty with a little beacon of hope shining through. A big roller coaster ride that was so scary I had to close my eyes a few times. A great cast of characters kept me hooked from beginning to end. Don’t let this one pass you by! Big 5 stars from me.
Thank you NetGalley, Noelle Holten and One More Chapter (Kindle Edition) for the opportunity to read and review this gem of a book.

It did take me a little while to get into the rhythm of this book, but once I did it was a gripping domestic thriller that kept me turning the page. It’s not an easy read and I found myself so frustrated with Beth’s character but as the plot unfolded I was soon drawn in. It’s a take of trust and betrayal and I would rate it 4 stars. Thank you to NetGalley, Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter and the author for the chance to review.

Told between the perspectives of the two main characters and split into two parts, before and after the incident. I thought it started off a bit slow but certainly picked up the pace later on. What is seemingly a great relationship it becomes apparent that it is anything but, but who is telling the truth. A good storyline with suspense added in makes for a great read.

I was fortunate to receive an ARC of this book from One More Chapter and NetGalley.

I found the first part of this book very hard going. Beth's alcoholism is relentless and although I have had no issues with alcohol in my life, I found it extremely challenging to read about. Which I guess maybe was the point!

Told through alternating chapters by Beth and Joe, in the second half of the book the pace picked up. I thought the connection between their jobs and cases they were working on was very interesting.

My favourite quote:

"Somewhere in the middle of both your versions in the truth."

Received a copy to review, here is the blurb

"An anonymous call raises the alarm. Two bodies found as a result of a home invasion. Then the police see the knives.
One in his hand.
One in hers.
Joe and Beth appeared to have the perfect relationship. But there are two sides to every story.
His truth. Her truth. And the actual truth.
In this web of lies, only one person can be telling the truth, can’t they?"

I enjoyed this book overall, however, I have to say I didn't feel much empathy for either character, thought they both had their flaws. I think the only character I actually liked was Beth's aunt. The book did flip between Joe and Beth and there perspectives but I did find it jumped around at times and felt a bit rushed. Overall it was an ok read but not the best I have read recently.

His Truth Her Truth is broke up to 2 parts. Part 1 is where you read the characters Beth and Joe’s life and what lead to the tragic incident. And part 2 is after the incident and trying to figure out what happened. The story had a great pace. I really enjoyed part 2 of the book. There was so much going on. When I read mystery novels I love trying to figure out who did it. In this book I kept going back and forth on which character did it. Overall solid mystery!
