Noelle Holten’s “His Truth Her Truth” is a gripping psychological thriller that explores the blurred lines between perception and reality. Set in the idyllic yet sinister Gladstone Village, the novel unravels the devastating consequences of a toxic relationship, deception, and self-delusion. Told through alternating perspectives, it forces you to question what is real and who can truly be trusted.

The story opens with a chilling home invasion—Joe Trasker and Beth Stanford are found barely alive, both clutching knives, both suspected of attempting to kill the other. From there, the novel is divided into two parts: the first delves into the events leading up to that fateful night, particularly Beth’s struggles after her father’s death and Joe’s growing emotional detachment. The second part shifts focus to the search for the truth, peeling back layers of lies and betrayal.

One of the book’s strongest elements is its dual-perspective storytelling, which adds to the sense of unease and ambiguity. Beth and Joe’s versions of events contradict each other, making it difficult to determine who, if anyone, is telling the truth. Holten masterfully plays with unreliable narration, showcasing how personal biases and self-deception shape the stories we tell ourselves and others.

The first half of the book is a bit slow, though it does include detailed character development. If you’re expecting non-stop action and mystery, you may end up being disappointed. The second half, in contrast, is fast-paced, packed with twists and revelations that keep the tension high. The suspense builds steadily, and though some plot points stretch believability, they contribute to the book’s dark and ominous tone.

Beth and Joe are deeply flawed characters, neither particularly likable, yet both compelling. Beth’s dependence on alcohol and self-destructive tendencies make her an unreliable narrator, while Joe’s detached and secretive nature adds to the mystery. Their toxic dynamic is at the heart of the story, making it an unsettling but fascinating read.

Holten’s writing is sharp and immersive, with snappy dialogue and vivid descriptions that draws you into the tangled web of lies. The setting—both picturesque and ominous—enhances the book’s eerie atmosphere, reinforcing the idea that even the most perfect-seeming relationships can hide dark secrets.

While “His Truth Her Truth” doesn’t reinvent the psychological thriller genre, it delivers a suspenseful and thought-provoking read. The final twist is particularly effective, leaving you questioning everything you thought you knew. Fans of twisty domestic thrillers and unreliable narrators will find plenty to enjoy in this unsettling tale of trust, betrayal, and the ever-shifting nature of truth.

I liked the start of the book, very intriguing .I also liked the chapters being told from different points of view and the shortness of the chapters. I did struggle to like the main characters ,which meant I was less invested in their story then I might have been if I had liked them. Overall it is a reasonable read, but was quite slow in places, and for me didn't quite hit the spot.

In this story, the writer takes the whole "he says, she says" issue to another level, though the context is perhaps a little different than the typical one. After all, how often do you find yourself facing two bodies, two knives and two versions of events (none of which appear to add up, despite the simple maths on display)?!

Beth and Joe's apparently perfect relationship has turned out to be anything but. And with such conflicting stories, where does the truth really lie?

This is one of those books that really delivers on the twists and chills - worth checking out if you like thrillers! It gets 3.5 stars.

A Twisted, Addictive Thriller That Will Keep You Second-Guessing

Noelle Holten has done it again—*His Truth Her Truth* is a psychological thriller that grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let go. From the very first page, I was hooked, drawn into the chilling scene of a home invasion gone terribly wrong. Two bodies, two knives, and two conflicting accounts. What really happened between Joe and Beth?

Beth and Joe seemed like the perfect couple—but as their stories unravel, so does everything you think you know. Holten masterfully plays with perspective, making you question every word, every motive, and every tiny detail. One moment I was convinced I knew the truth, only to be blindsided by another revelation.

The writing is sharp, the pacing relentless, and the psychological tension is off the charts. This is the kind of book that keeps you reading long past bedtime, heart racing as you flip each page, desperate to untangle the web of lies. Fans of Freida McFadden and John Marrs will devour this one in a single sitting.

If you love thrillers that mess with your head and keep you guessing until the final, jaw-dropping twist, *His Truth Her Truth* is an absolute must-read. Holten delivers a dark, gripping tale where trust is a dangerous illusion—and the truth is anything but simple.

I received a free copy of, His Truth Her Truth, by Noelle Holten, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Joe and Beth are married with secrets, now one of them is dead, who killed them? Wow, what a wild ride.

Joe and Beth appeared to have the perfect marriage. But there are two sides to every story. This novel centers around a home invasion gone terribly wrong. An anonymous call results in the discovery of two bodies, with one knife in his hand… and one in hers. But with faint pulses…they were both alive. Each chapter is short, making it easy to fly through,Beth and Joe are a couple with hidden truths, and neither is alone in their struggles

This had a very slow start, I must admit that it was too slow and it was hard to pick up the book to continue reading. But it started to get exciting towards the end. Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for a chance to read this eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

An anonymous tip brings attention to a shocking discovery. Two bodies are uncovered following a home invasion, and the police notice the knives—one clutched in his hand, the other in hers. Joe and Beth seemed to have an ideal relationship, but every story has multiple perspectives. There’s his version, her version, and then there’s the real story. In this web of deception, only one person can be speaking the truth, right?

I want to start by saying that I really dislike writing negative reviews. I fully appreciate the immense effort that goes into crafting a novel, not just from the author but from everyone involved in the process. Unfortunately, this book didn’t resonate with me. I struggled to engage with it until I reached about 65%, when the story finally gained some momentum. I was initially drawn in by the concept of exploring domestic abuse through a he said/she said lens, but I found myself losing interest. The book tackles some heavy themes, including domestic violence and substance abuse, so I recommend checking the trigger warnings. I was ready to rate it 2 stars until it picked up at that 65% mark, and ultimately, I settled on 3 stars because the ending was quite satisfying.

Overall I found this to be a mediocre thriller. While some parts left me questioning what was happening and included unexpected twists that intrigued me, I wasn't a fan of the relationship between the main characters. I felt that the execution of the main plot twist was lacking, which unfortunately took away its shock value and was therefor underwhelming.

Two bodies are discovered in a terrible home invasion after the police receive an anonymous tip off, both the male and female victim have been discovered with knives in their hands. How can this be and who is the victim in this situation and who is the aggressor? The police are very confused by this scene as you can imagine, and they set out to explore the relationships of the two people involved trying to determine what has led to this.

The story is told from two perspectives, Joe Trasker and Beth Stanford. I cannot say I particularly warmed to either character, as we learn more, they are an unlikely match with totally different personalities. Beth has numerous personal issues for which she is receiving treatment, and Joe seemed quite blind and unsympathetic to this while and he is a workaholic and seems to be incredibly focused on himself.

The book moves quite slowly for the first 50% and then things do pick up. You keep guessing and questioning these events. Themes of deception and betrayal are strong with lies and secrets rampant, this is a complicated relationship. The second half of the book gets more exciting which helped me to increase my rating, although I am a fan of Noelle Holten, I do not feel this is her best work but still a fun and quick read and the ending will surprise you.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of the book, all opinions expressed are my own.

This was the perfect thriller for a few wintry nights in! If you're looking for a page turner that pulls no punches, twists this way and that, and leaves you questioning everyone until the very end, then I urge you to pick this up.

The story centres on Joe and Beth. Like other reviewers have said, they both have unlikeable traits, which I found made for very compelling and three-dimensional characters.

The book opens with a graphic set-piece: Joe and Beth are found half-dead in their idyllic village home. The narrative then explores how they found themselves here from each POV.

We learn that Beth is suffering the loss of her beloved father. The portrayal of her grief is poignant and bitter: I appreciated the author's clear honesty and detail about the reality of bereavement. Joe struggles to support her, although, at times, it feels like he is really trying. I enjoyed the subtleties of his seemingly innocuous (sometimes self-centred) decisions and his to-and-fro internal dialogues – this struck me as a very nuanced and brutally realistic portrayal of two flawed people attempting to make things work under difficult circumstances.

The cast of characters had me guessing until the end! I thought I'd guessed who might be behind everything, but, alas, I hadn't. Like I say, this is a great choice for a cup of tea and a thrill-filled night in. It was one of those books I really looked forward to!

Thank you to the publisher for this fantastic ARC in exchange for my honest opinions.

Slow start, confusing, unsatisfying.
It showed promise three quarters of the way through, you’re really not sure who to believe, but I expected a big twist that never came. Don’t get me wrong there was a twist but it really fell flat. A disappointing read - sorry!

His Truth, Her Truth is a solid read that draws you in slowly.

As the title suggests there is always two sides to every story: his side and her side.

The book centres around a home invasion that has gone badly.

Two people lay close to death on the floor: both holding knives.

The story is told in two parts before and after the attack.

The pace for me definielty picked up in the second half and I raced to the end.

The characters are unreliable narrators and I could not decide who to believe which keept those pages turning.

One final twist in the story I did not see coming .

This was a very different read from this author. I found it a little confusing at times but overall I did enjoy it. It was a fast read and I never quite knew who I was able to trust. There were so many secrets and lies between these 2 people who were supposedly in love but not talking to each other how they felt.

I did sympathise with Beth, grief is hard and everybody deals with it differently.I did find parts of it to be a bit repetitive with her drinking. She certainly was an unreliable narrator. Joe wasn’t much better but in a different way. He frustrated me with his need to work instead of look after his fiancee.

The ending was a little disappointing, I was hoping for a little bit more if I am honest. But it was entertaining and easy to read. 3.5 stars

I genuinely have no clue what just happened. In theory, this could be quite a compelling plot, but nothing felt connected. This left me incredibly confused by the end, and not in a satisfying way.

I appreciated the fact that Beth was an unreliable narrator - it really did keep me guessing throughout the story. Unfortunately, the execution of the multiple plot points, and the writing, just wasn't for me.

A fast paced thriller read with plenty of twists and turns to keep you on your toes, a great book with an interesting storyline in which I was involved in from the beginning.

A fabulous read. Twisty, turny and impossible to review with spoilers.
Kept me on the edge of my seat from the first page to the last.
Highly recommend

Thanks to Netgalley and Harper Collins UK for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

When the book starts, Beth and her fiancee Joe are found on the floor of their home both unconconsious, each with knives in their hands. Then we go back in time to when all the trouble started. Beth's dad unexpectedly passed sending her spiraling back into mental health issues and excessive drinking. Joe tries to be supportive but he is hiding something from Beth and getting fed up with her antics.

This book was ok at best. The first half was really repetitive with Beth getting drunk and being an unreliable narrator. Joe was hiding something and I am not sure what it was even as the book is over. The only things we know he was hiding weren't that big of a deal. Then in the second half, after the altercation at their house, it was a lot of Beth in the hospital claiming she wasn't guilty but not really sure she wasn't guilty because she was drunk all the time. Then it finally got going, but I thought the ending was pretty farfetched. Unfortunately it just didn't work for me.

I was grateful to receive this ARC but unfortunately this book just wasn't for me. The first half of the book spent a lot of time setting up one of the main characters, but in the end it wasn't particularly relevant and it was more of a distraction.

I also struggled to connect with any of the characters and the plot felt chaotic, making it difficult to stay engaged.

Thanks NetGalley and One More Chapter for the opportunity to review this ARC.
