NetGalley’s Book Advocate Toolkit

I’m so happy that I downloaded this colorful, image-packed guide. It’s definitely a great resource for exploring NetGalley and using it to the fullest.
I love that the toolkit includes links to articles at the We Are Bookish blog that explain certain aspects in even more depth. Likewise for the section on “Tips, Tricks, and Tools” (page 29) that points out the many great NetGallery features such as casting a vote for covers that appeal to me (Cover Love) and the link to the Publishing Glossary so I can get familiar with “common publishing industry lingo” that I may not have run across before.

One example of that lingo is DNF. Although I am a bookworm, I was not familiar with this abbreviation, which means Did Not Finish, so the explanation and instructions on what to do if I find myself DNFing were most valuable.

The main reason I downloaded this short book was to read the information on writing a review. The advice given on that topic was invaluable and has sent me on my way to become a better book reviewer.

I know I’ll head back often to this short, well-written volume of advice and facts.

Thank you, We Are Bookish!

This was an excellent summary of how to request and review books on Netgalley. I had seen this linked to as a resource from a different site, but would recommend it for anyone starting out on here. There were a few tips that I gleaned even after reviewing books for some time now. Honestly, making this guide more prominent for new users will only enhance their experience, especially after viewing the flowcharts and definitions. I'm grateful for the advice provided and appreciate how Netgalley has made this a positive reviewing site.

This is a helpful guide for a NetGalley beginner, and I can see referring back to it as I become more experienced. This guide answers in one place all the how-to questions for book reviewing on NetGalley.

I especially liked the links to click on for more information on any section. The format is very user-friendly and visually encouraging. I feel like this toolkit anticipates all the questions a new reviewer would have.

I’m also intrigued by the section on reviewing via social media. I will revisit that section after I get used to the basics. I also appreciate that this toolkit will continue to be updated as processes change. So much easier to refer to this guide than a string of emails. This guide could be a great prototype for other types of platforms.

I recommend that new reviewers and even seasoned reviewers take the time to go through this toolkit.

The NetGalley ToolKit includes all information and frequently asked questions on how to navigate this site and improve your profile to gain ARCs/DRCs.

What I loved about this toolkit is how visually pleasing it is to the eyes, able to convey the important points easily and in an organized manner. The color palette complementa greatly with the font choice. This also includes all the important links and resources that can be utilized by first time NetGalley users like me. Clicking said links will also instantly bring you to the site, which adds to the ease in using this toolkit.

Overall, this was a great read and new book advocates should definitely check this out!

NetGalley is a digital platform that connects publishers and authors with reviewers, librarians, booksellers, and media professionals by offering free advance reader copies (ARCs) of upcoming books in exchange for honest reviews. 📚

In order to get accepted for ARCs through NetGalley, you will want to make sure your profile is A.) set up correctly an B.) that you maintain a feedback ratio of at least 80%. I highly recommend downloading the Book Advocate Toolkit from their website first and read through it before requesting ARCs from publishers.

🎧 What I love about NetGalley most, is that they also include ALCs for request and as an avid audiobook listener, I love getting the opportunity to listen to books and review them before they are released.

I am still a new user on this site, but I am happy to help answer any questions you might have on the platform or how to recieve ARCs in general. Just know that you will be required to give honest reviews if you want to start requesting ARCs, otherwise, your approval rating will go down.

This is a resource on how to use Netgalley well, tips on what to do and not when starting out to write good reviews and increase your chances of getting approved for books you request. It gives tips on how to set up your profile to help publishers decide whether to approve your requests, what you can do to up your feedback ratio, and also what info publishers look for in your Netgalley reviews and what they might use it for. It also explains what to do in DNF situations and what symbols on the Netgalley site mean.

It looks like this was updated to have the Social Media tips in its own resource, so this is specifically for how to use Netgalley well. I’ve been using Netgalley for a year now but even I learned some stuff from this toolkit. Highly recommend if you’re new to Netgalley or want to increase your approval rates!

I've been having a lot of trouble getting accepted by publishers and I know my profile has been lacking--this toolkit is exactly what I needed! Hoping with this extra info I'll be able to make myself more appealing to publishers even though I'm just a reviewer and don't have a career in the field.

Similarly, I definitely forget to "hook" readers with my reviews. And I basically never summarize a book, oops.

Overall, happy I gave this pdf a read! Even though a fair amount of the info wasn't new to me, reminders can be helpful.

A great toolkit for introducing how Netgalley works and how to share reviews. I liked how it brings you through each step, from Netgalley’s functions, to how to set up your profile, to explanations as to how feedback ratio works. They also have an entire section in how to navigate the website, which I found particularly useful when trying to find the books I had requested. In addition, the advice given about writing reviews, especially critical reviews was a large help when it came to writing my own ones!
