This was a very informative toolkit. NetGalley can be a little overwhelming to the uninitiated because there is such a multitude of information right at your fingertips. This does a good job of presenting anything that might be relevant for someone getting started, and as someone who learned to navigate the platform without any help from friends or peers I found it to be very helpful in clarifying some small questions I'd had running in the back of my mind.
I really enjoyed this revised version of the NetGalley Book Advocate Toolkit. It’s a great resource for NetGalley users. It’s definitely targeted more towards new users, but seasoned users like me can find lots of value in this resource as well. I really enjoyed the tips for a good bio & good book review. And I’m very excited for the upcoming social media toolkit! Thanks NetGalley for providing us with a comprehensive guide to the site!
Lots of great advice for keeping my account current, updated and appealing to publishers. Would recommend for new reviewers and wish I had found it earlier in my journey
If you're new to Netgalley, I highly recommend you read this!!!! I think it's such a user friendly and easy to understand quick guide.
This is a wonderful Publication for anyone new to NetGalley or someone who wants more information. I enjoyed the Refresher course on how to use the site. I recommended to anyone interested in NetGalley.
This is an excellent guide to creating/updating your profile on NetGalley, requesting ARCs, and sharing reviews. I've already learned a few things to better polish my profile!
I always enjoy getting these! They are essential to my NetGalley experience and help me better understand how to leave effective reviews and how to design my profile! I like how easy they are to read and how it provides details without going to in depth that it is hard to follow! I am looking forward to more of these to come!
This guide was extremely helpful for a person who is just getting started using Net Galley. At first I was a little intimidated with this platform, and was unsure what I was doing. This guide gives helpful tricks on how to write a bio, and nit only tells you what yo include but also offers a sample bio as a guide. It also goes into depth about how to navigate the site as well as gives helpful information on feedback ratios and what publishers are looking for. All the information you need to be a successful reviewer is written in this guide. I would highly recommend any person who is new to Net Galley to read this guide.
This toolkit guide was incredibly helpful as a new user of NetGalley. Starting out in the reviewing community, but a strong lover of literature, is quite intimidating and daunting but this guide has provided insight and assistance on how to do this. As a result, I feel more informed and capable of tailoring my account to have the best opportunities and to make the most of the various resources. I now have a better understanding of how the website works and how I can use it to aid me in my reviewing journey.
I very helpful resource for those of us who are new to NetGalley and still finding our footing as reviewers. The style is simple and easy to follow with clear instructions and tips on various aspects of NetGalley's review process.
Thank you for the helpful hints! I will be updating my bio to better reflect my intentions with my NetGalley profile.
As someone who writes reviews of nearly every single book they read but was still unsure of how to navigate and make the most out of NetGalley, I found this guide incredibly helpful. There was information in here about how to go about reviewing properly and concisely, feedback ratio explanation, as well as how the publishers navigate selecting readers which was the most helpful for me. NetGalley is fairly user friendly, but I found overall that this guide is something every user should familiarize themselves with!
This was incredibly helpful and I would've loved to have seen it when I first joined netgalley. It is full of tips to help with writing reviews, how to deal with books you don't finish, increasing your feedback ratio and improving your bio to appeal to more publishers. The layout and text is fairly simple and seems like it will be really accessible to a lot of people, as well as including extra direct links if you want more information on something.
NetGalley's Book Advocate Toolkit is a new/updated how-to and help tutorial guide for book advocates and reviewers written by the folks at We Are Bookish. Originally released in 2022, this updated and reformatted guide was published 22nd July 2024. It's 31 pages and is available in ebook format.
Whether readers have been reviewing for years or are just thinking about starting, networking and learning from other reader/reviewers is always a great idea. Adding techniques to an expanding arsenal of tools for creatively evaluating books and presenting them objectively to followers and the general public is a good way to increase reach and deepen our own understanding of the things we read and review.
We Are Bookish has collected a number of good tips and tricks in this short guide. They've included info about motivation, how to review, how to format a review, what to say, scheduling, follow ups, audiobook reviews, and more. There's a flowchart about what to do with DNF (did not finish) books. They've also included a very helpful page on writing critical reviews, something that nearly all reviewers struggle with.
They also tease an upcoming social media toolkit at the end of the booklet.
Five stars. This would be a great fit for pretty much everyone who writes even the occasional book review, blog, or bookish social media post. It's necessary to create a NetGalley account to access and download the booklet, but it's a useful, graphically appealing tool.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
First let me preface this review by saying that I am taking part in the #CampNetGalley challenge and reviewing this toolkit completes one of the squares on the bingo card. The rules do not say that I have to give it a positive or negative review (chuckle) - just that I review it.
Imagine my surprise when I actually like it (chuckle). I wish when I had joined NetGalley that this toolkit had been sent to me. I struggled around the app and I even learned something new while participating in the challenge that I didn’t know I could do on the app. 💡
NetGalley's Book Advocate Toolkit Revised Edition has a nice clean layout with lots of colors and graphics to keep the reader engaged and interested. The toolkit takes you step by step as you set up your account to navigating your way around to requesting books. Then on to giving feedback or not giving feedback on the books you have been approved for. I was so surprised that all of the links in the toolkit worked. I clicked and clicked just to make sure.
The tips are great and should give new readers and even those with experience (like creating lists 🙋) creative ways to organize, write, and share their reviews. I also learned that pencils are a really good thing (chuckle). I had no clue that my reviews had been shared so many times and I thank every publisher that has shared them. I had no clue to even look or that even existed until I read the toolkit.
I recommend that every reader utilizing NetGalley at least take a look at the Toolkit. I also recommend that when new members join NetGalley, that this kit is sent to them as part of the “welcome” package. It’s a valuable source of information that is easy to read and loaded with great tips.
This tool kit is soo helpful to help better prepare myself for reviewing ARCs! I am excited to use all the information I learned in this tool kit to improve my reviews! A solid five star wealth of knowledge for anyone just getting started on NetGalley!
This toolkit has helped me polish up my reviewer profile and made it super clear how to go about requesting books.
The layout and text feels very accessible and uses clear language with direct links for further information if required.
I would recommend this resource for any new users looking to make the most of their experience on NetGalley.
This is a very helpful booklet to read when one is just getting started on netgalley. It is especially helpful for writing reviews, even including an annotated example. I will definitely be referring back to this throughout my time on netgalley.
After going through NetGalley's Book Advocate Toolkit, I updated my profile to better showcase my personality. The PDF was really insightful, as it clarified what publishers look for when granting access to advanced copies, both digital and audio. I recommend it to anyone looking to become a stronger book advocate.
Fantastic little book of information. I especially liked that the booklet had information about how to write reviews. It could have more explanations and details on that, as I know a lot of people, including myself, who don't feel confident with their review. Either way, it was supurbly done, and I look forward to putting some of those lessons that I learnt to action with some reviews. I figure now is a good start.
Great written voice, and the writing is clear and easy to understand making it a quick and reliable read. Would recommend it to new NetGalley friends.
