I thoroughly enjoyed going through NetGalley's newest and updated version of its Book Advocate Toolkit. It's a comprehensive how-to guide for new and old NetGalley users that includes a walk-through on the account set-up, an explanation of NetGalley/book reviewer terminology and website functions, and a guide on submitting book reviews to publishers.

The toolkit takes you step-by-step on how to create your NetGalley account, providing detailed examples so users can set-up their account as best as they can be for publishers to view. My favourite section of the toolkit is the how-to guide on writing and submitting book reviews through NetGalley. The book includes a detailed guide on the do's and don'ts on writing reviews and provided a clear example of what a critical book review should look like. It also includes a flow chart for reviewers to refer to in the event that readers were unable to finish the book (aka DNF), either through technical issues with the book, time limitation, or just not enjoying the content.

While jam-packed with information, I have to commend the NetGalley team for making this toolkit as engaging and eye-catching as possible. The format was fun and colourful and done in a thoughtful way that doesn't distract the users from the message.

This is a fantastic resource for all new and current NetGalley users. I highly recommend this for anyone to reference to if they're interested in bettering their NetGalley experience and/or improving their book reviewing skills. Thanks NetGalley!

Thanks to NetGalley for providing this ARC! All opinions are my own.

This was actually a super helpful read. I have been feeling a bit out of it in terms of ARCs so this was a great way to motivate myself to get back into the spirit of it. I loved the profile tips and even polished up my profile to make it the best that it can be and reflect my current reading habits. I found the formatting of this guide super fun as well with lots of dynamic shapes. Definitely recommend for those new to NetGalley or those who have been away for a bit.

This was a useful quick start guide! I disagree that you need to have books first, I think this is a great place to start even with no books on your shelf.
It is written in simple terms and mobile friendly pdf view. Each page is concise and direct in its guidance. All new users should take advantage of this resource.

A very helpful NetGalley guide! I used the tips to review/edit my profile! I also learned what an orange pencil next to a title means!

Thank you NetGalley for providing this resource to your reviewers!

This toolkit was great! As a newer member on NetGalley, this title offers great insights into how to succeed. It is a great resource for all members, both new and established. One thing I have especially struggled with is how to tackle critical reviews and this toolkit gave me the confidence to proceed.

I enjoyed reading this revised Book Advocate Toolkit. It has invaluable information for both new and experienced NetGalley users. The material is presented in an easy-to-read format with appealing graphics. I like that you can click on links within the toolkit to access related articles that go into more depth on a specific topic.

One of the best tips for me was reading about the "sandwich method" hints on writing a review. New hints and a refresher are always helpful no matter how long you've been reviewing!

As a new NetGalley user, I’m so pleased that I stumbled across this guide.

I’d been previously finding my way, more due to luck and intuition than best practice . Within minutes of reading the guide I already feel better prepared and equipped to navigate the site and embark on my NetGalley journey.

Full to the brim with really helpful tips, from basics such as checking and adding the correct device settings, to how to write a good review and what to do if you ever DNF a book.

I would recommend this to any new NetGalley user and would imagine even seasoned users might learn a trick or two!

Thank you NetGalley!

Always good to brush up on how things work! I’ve been a user for about a year now and I still appreciate reminding myself of the tips and tricks provided to make the most of the site. There are some features such as making lists that I often forget to utilize and I appreciate the reminder that there’s still more I can get out of my Netgalley experience.

This is the toolkit I wish I had when I first joined NetGalley. I wasn’t quite sure how it worked besides wishing for ARCs and being jealous of those who got them and wanted to enjoy them before anyone else because DUH. I didn’t realize the number game and member ratio stuff until I browsed for hours and requested about 20 books. BIG WHOOPS. I finally got my ratio up after months of reading through dozens of books but man this would’ve saved me so much anxiety so if you’re a newbie grab this immediately!!!

Thank you NetGalley and We Are Bookish for the DRC! This toolkit is an excellent guide to all things NetGalley - how to navigate the site, creating and keeping your profile up-to-date, requesting books, writing reviews, and much more. This toolkit is an invaluable guide for new users to Goodreads. The We Are Bookish team has created this clear, easy-to-follow booklet to assist new users in getting acclimated to the website and process. Veteran users will also find helpful tips on writing reviews, including a decision tree on when to use the "I will not be giving feedback" option.

A great guide that all NetGalley users can benefit from reading and rereading!

Thank you Netgalley for updating your toolkit. Something I enjoyed and appreciated was the update dnf tree (that's so important for users to decide whether they will give feedback or not). I am also very excited to see the upcoming social media took kit.

Thank you for sharing this toolkit! I liked how the information contained within was displayed and I think the graphics and presentation made information that could feel somewhat repetitive, obvious, or otherwise uninteresting (but important) material easily digestible. I also jotted down a few good tips that I hadn't considered after reading through the guide.
