Tell me what you did keeps you at the edge of your seat the entire time. I loved how it was written based off a true crime podcast. The twist at the end was a shock you are not prepared for! Will definitely read more books by this author!

As I saw more and more positive reviews for Tell Me What You Did pop up in my feed, I knew I needed to request it. I'm so glad I did!

📖: Dylan "Poe" Webb hosts a hit podcast which features a criminal confessing their crimes on each episode. One day the guest on her screen claims he murdered Poe's mother. But that can't be possible because Poe already killed him.

🤝: This may be a good fit if you enjoy:
- flawed, morally grey characters
- true crime podcast elements
- strong relationships to root for

💭: I can count on one hand the times I've finished a book in 24 hours, and I'm adding this one to the list! Between the significant amount of podcast dialogue and the short chapters, this book was easy to fly through. I wasn't necessarily surprised by the reveals, but I loved the journey. The author's execution of the dual timelines coming together for an action-packed ending delivered for me.

💬: "They want to like their heroes, picturing themselves in the character's shoes, commending themselves for doing the right thing, for shunning violent temptation in order to achieve some brittle and thin-shelled redemption. . . They don't know that sometimes the path to redemption is forged in poison and bullets."

Rating: I really liked it! (4.5 rounded up)

This book has been getting rave reviews on Goodreads and bookstagram, but I couldn’t get into it. I found it a bit too creepy and did not like the podcast trope. The main character Poe was a bit of a letdown for me. I didn’t finish this book. I tried twice but didn’t love it.

Thank you to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for an early release copy of Tell Me What You Did by Carter Wilson.

I just discovered a new favorite author! I really liked Tell Me What You Did, the story itself was intriguing and went by really quick! I liked the pod cast elements, I enjoyed our characters, and I also loved the animals included (happy to say there are no animal deaths!). This book has one hundred chapters but they are all short and go by so quickly you hardly notice! I really like Carter Wilson’s writing style, the way characters are written and the plot in general feels well fleshed out, it kept me guessing where things were going to go the entire time.

I enjoyed the dynamic between Poe and her dad, probably even more than Poe and Kip. I liked the relationship between Kip and Poe but I kind of wish something more was done with it to really make me feel for them. I think they only met up once or twice in person in this book and I just wanted more from them in general. They seemed like a cute and genuine couple that felt real. Overall I throughly enjoyed this read! I have already added some more of Carter Wilson’s books to my tbr!

Thanks to NetGalley, Poisoned Pen Press, and Source Books for this copy of "Tell Me What You Did."

This was a creepy, suspenseful, exciting, rollercoaster-y book!

It started explosively - the transcript of a podcast where Ian has taken over Poe's place as host. Ian threatens that Poe has to confess her crime or someone will be hurt.

We learn that Poe, with the help of her partner Kip, produces a popular podcast named "Tell Me What You Did" where people confess crimes they've committed.

To make it more gripping, the story is told in current time (the podcast transcript) and 7 days earlier as we discover what led to Ian's and Poe's showdown and involves the murder of Poe's mother 17 years ago.

The premise was great and I was intrigued by the storyline but the story itself was lackluster. I love the podcast interwoven in the unfolding of the story but just didn’t love it as a whole.

Poe Webb has a popular podcast where people call in to confess their crimes anonymously. During one episode, a man calls in claiming he murdered her mother years ago. But Poe already killed her mother's murderer. ...Or did she?

For being a lengthier book for a thriller, it was a pretty quick read and I was interested in the story. My only gripes are that the plot twist was easy to guess fairly early on, and that Poe's character falls pretty flat for me. Her main interest seems to be drinking away her pain. Granted, she's been through a lot of trauma in her life and it doesn't sound like she's in therapy as an adult. I just wanted a little more personality from her.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

Podcast host Poe Webb has created an immensely popular show with an intriguing premise. On each episode, an anonymous guest is given 15 minutes to answer one directive: Tell me what you did. Poe and her audience are accustomed to shocking revelations and confessions coming to light on the show, but nothing can prepare Poe for the guest who calls himself Ian Hindley. He claims to be the man who brutally murdered Poe's mother and knows intimate details about the crime.

Poe isn't shocked to be confronted by Hindley because he's her mother's killer. She's shocked because she hunted down and killed the man responsible for her mother's death seven years ago.

Or did she kill an innocent man?

Alternating between a transcript of Poe and Hindley's second livestream conversation and confrontation and Poe's first-person narration of the week's leading up to those events, Tell Me What You Did is a taut, brisk thriller. Though the book clocks in at a hefty page count, the transcript format makes for a quick, bingeable read — perfect for curling up with on a frosty winter afternoon.

I enjoyed the ride of the book while I was on it, but I will say that the book suffers under scrutiny upon reflection. Poe is an extremely flat character. She's an angry white woman in her mid-thirties with a drinking problem and no friends. She has zero chemistry with her boyfriend, but I couldn't really describe his personality to you anyway. She does have some rapport with her dad and is even flirty with a cop who shows up, but I have a hard time buying her as this podcast host to whom people would want to open up and confess.

So, the book is fun, just don't think too hard about it. And (spoiler) all animals are OK.

It’s been a LONG time since I was scared by a book. This one had me checking doors & windows!

Poe is a semi-famous podcaster who has a secret, Her mother was killed many years before & Poe knows who did it…& why! She never told the police or her father! &&& that’s not her only secret!!!! Now she has a stranger show up on her podcast that’s says he knows all her secrets…..

This book was soooo creepy!! I just loved it. It was spooky & scary. I loved the mixed media aspect of this. It will make a very good audiobook. I loved Poe as a slightly morally gray character & Hindley was just terrifying! If your looking for a TRUE thriller/suspense then look no further!

This book was a solid 4.25 maybe even 4.5⭐️ read!!! When i was driving around listening to my other audiobooks this book was always in the back of my mind. When anyone asked me what i was reading and i told them the premise of the book they were all like DAMN that sounds AWESOME. The main character, Poe, was not everyone’s version of likable but for me I felt she was likable and relatable, more than anything. Now i’m going back through this authors other books because i loved this one so much. Just. read. this. book.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author, for an ARC of this book, in exchange for an honest review.
I previously read & enjoyed "The Dead Girl in 2A" & "Mister Tender's Girl" so I was excited to get a chance to read Carter Wilson's newest book,
"Tell Me What You Did".
This book didn't disappoint!
I found it to be an addictive, original & well written thriller that pulled me in right away & didn't let me go until its final page.
I loved how he added one of his characters from "Mister Tender's Girl" to this book.
I can't wait to read what he decides to write next.

I was on the edge of my seat reading this gripping, spine-chilling thriller with a podcast theme woven throughout. Tell Me What You Did switches between a live podcast stream and the chapters that lead up to the key moments—where everything goes down. Poe, the female protagonist, runs a podcast where people confess the crimes they’ve committed, all under the guise of anonymity. What they don’t know is that Poe has a dark past of her own, one she’s buried... until a twisted, vile man resurfaces to expose it.

I really liked Poe as a character—she’s dark, troubled, and driven by a need for revenge to avenge her mother’s murder. She’s a mess in all the right ways, handling justice on her own terms, which I respected. She’s deeply flawed, though—using unhealthy coping mechanisms to deal with her fears. I could almost feel her inner turmoil, the tension mounting as her destructive habits became part of her daily routine. She relies on a constant flow of liquor, if you can even call it that, just to get by.

Overall, this was a dark and tense fast-paced read and I enjoyed. I realized that one of the other female characters in this novel has a story of her own, so I’ll definitely be adding to my TBR.

Warnings: infidelity, animal abuse, murder/violence, addiction/alcoholism.

This was such a clever plot! Events of the past have come to haunt Poe when she is contacted one day by a man claiming to be her mother’s killer. This sets Poe down a suspenseful and frightening path. I really enjoyed the author’s writing style and somehow found myself really like Poe, despite her choices in the past. This was one of those stories I didn’t want to put down! Thriller fans will eat this up!

This utterly unique and cleverly written thriller scared me half to death, I swear. As I write this, I'm wondering if I'm ever going to get a good night's sleep again.

The story jumps back and forth between a podcast interview on Halloween and the events leading up to the interview in the weeks prior. It's not a novel filled with light suspense; it's a dark and violent thriller. I put it down several times, feeling that it was too harsh for my taste, but I kept picking it back up, dying to know how it was going to end.

This won't be a great pick for every reader, but dedicated thriller fans will appreciate the plotting and character development.

Wow what a page turner. First time read for me by this author. A unique storyline with lots of´ unexpected’s thrown in.
I wasn't sure about it in the beginning but once I started I couldn’t stop.
I still have mixed feelings about how the live dialogues came before the actual event. Would I have preferred to have read it as it happened? I think so…. It wasn't a make or break for me it was just different to what I was expecting.
Throughly enjoyed reading this and look forward to reading more about Alice´s story in his previous book.

Synopsis
Tell Me What You Did" by Carter Wilson is a psychological thriller that delves into the complexities of guilt and revenge. The thriller centers around Poe Webb, a true crime podcaster known for her show where individuals confess their crimes. Poe's life takes a turn when a man appears on her show, claiming to be her mother's murderer—a crime Poe believes she avenged years earlier.

Review:
The expectations were high for this book.
Right off the bat, I really enjoyed the structure of the book, how the story was being told.
The chapters were short and that kept the story very entertaining - until it didn't. Somewhere along the way, I started feeling like the story was getting a bit repetitive and the suspense was just not building.
For that reason, and because it dragged for a bit too long, the plot twist wasn't unexpected.
Overall, I enjoyed the writing style and how fast paced the chapters were.
Would absolutely read more of his books

Wow this was a fast paced thriller! I couldn’t put it down! The chapters were so short, it made it so easy to consume. As with most thrillers, I’m along for the ride. I saw 30% of it coming but 70% shocked me! I loved our morally grey protagonist and our villain was perfectly villainy.

I found the premise of this book to be very interesting and for the most part it was well executed. I found myself turning those pages to find out what happened next, up until I got to the middle of the book. Then things went a little south and predictable. But this was still a pretty good read and I enjoyed it for the most part.

Poe is the main point of view and for the most part she is relatable. She is deeply flawed and has many issues surrounding her mother’s murder. But she is also intelligent and resilient, although I did question some of her choices both in her past and in the present. I loved her idea for her podcast and some of her ground rules for it were realistic. She had a great relationship with her dad and with her boyfriend/producer Kip although she was keeping a huge secret from both of them. And a big shout out to her dog Bailey who I just adored.

Ian Hindley was perhaps one of the scariest villains I have encountered this year. The descriptions of his looks, his voice and especially his laugh were well done and made me want to run far away from him. The cat and mouse game he played with Poe was also well done, although a bit predictable. The big reveal of who he really is at the end was very predictable, but I was still unsure if I was right up until the end.

The plot was well done, but I did have some issues. I loved the short chapters and the switching back and forth from the narrative to the podcast transcripts was well done. The first half of the book had me on the edge of my seat and I had a hard time putting the book down. But then the narrative suddenly went dead and got bogged down in Poe’s thoughts and emotions. Poe also at this point started making some questionable decisions. The action does pick up again towards the end, but by that time I had lost interest in the characters and story. I also found there were too many hints at the start of the book about what happens later and that took away from the suspense at the end.

Even with the few issues I had with this book, I would still recommend it to those of you that enjoy thrillers. This is the first book by this author that I have read and I would definitely pick up something else by him. There is a cameo by a character from a previous book that I liked and am I’m interested in reading her story.
