This was wild. This was my first experience reading Carter Wilson and I am considering going back and visiting his back catalog because I had no idea what to expect and ended up really enjoying it. Poe was a scrappy protagonist, and her mysterious and terrifying stalker was deeply, deeply unsettling. While I guessed some things early, other things caught me off guard with well placed red herrings. Overall, this was a fun thriller to be sure.

This book was wild! I loved how the timeline jumped back and forth and left me hanging on the edge of my seat. I truly never knew what would happen next and that the only solution would be to finish as quickly as possible, which I did in a day. As much as I love a cliffhanger, sometimes I just need a solid ending and this one was both satisfying and conclusive.

Tell Me What You Did is a fast paced thriller, that has you turning those pages so fast.
We have the main character Poe who has her own true crime podcast where she invites people anonymously to 'confess their sins' so to speak. But what her listeners don't know is that Poe has a very dark past - she watched her mother get murdered... and then Poe was the one to kill her mothers murderer... or did she get the wrong guy?!
As I mentioned this is a fast paced thriller, which I did find to be good. The ending/twist was very predictable but I still overall liked it. The one thing I can't wrap my head around though is her father and boyfriend being so ok with the fact that she killed someone... I just think there should have been more of a reaction from them.
Overall a good thriller, with a good storyline.

My thanks to Net Galley and Poison Pen for allowing me to review this arc.
Poe Webb is a Podcaster that has guests come on to confess their crimes. But what if the crime confessed to Poe was "I murdered your mother " However, Poe already killed the man that killed her mother. Or did she? This man knows many things about Poe and wants her to be the interviewee on a live stream while he stalks and terrorizes her to make sure she complies.
I did like this and look forward to more. My only issues I found Poe a bit flat and not developed.

This one was an incredible read, it had my full attention from the very beginning and it was impossible to put down. Perfect for fans of true crime, everything from the chapters to the characters to the plot was in my opinion, perfection.
5/5

Tell Me What You Did by Carter Wilson is a book that takes a pivot of the True Crime / Cold Case - Armchair Detective Mystery Book genre that is all the rage right now.
Poe is the host of a podcast (naturally) and she is being taunted and played with like a cat with a mouse. Yet, Poe had no reason to play alone, other than the possibility of guilt.
Some lost threads on the plotline.
Recommend if you loved Layne Fargo's They Never Learn.

I loved the premise of this one. This isn't your typical podcast mystery. The characters are complex. I honestly thought I had it figured out from the start but it was so much more than I expected. And I was stunned by the end.

Let me tell you what I did! I read a very clever, well thought out, engaging, dark, and riveting page turner titled Tell Me What You Did!! I also enjoyed the tie in to the author's previous book, Mister Tender's Girl. Yes, Alice makes an appearance in this book! So very clever how Carter Wilson brought her into this book.
Poe Webb is a popular true crime podcaster who invites people/criminals to come on her podcast anonymously and tell her what bad deeds/crimes they committed. Poe is no stranger to crime. Her mother was murdered in their family home when Poe was a young teen. When a creepy man comes on her show and tells her that he murdered her mother, Poe knows the man is lying because she killed the man who murdered her mother!
Oh, what a tangled web this book became! So very clever, so well thought out, so wonderfully written, and so hard to put down! I loved the tension, the dread, the secrets, and the mounting sense of danger! As the book progressed, I thought I knew where this book was going to go, but I was wrong, wrong, wrong. I'll say it one more time, this book was so clever!
I loved how the book gives glimpses into the past along with the podcast notes, giving readers more information but the author still dangles several reveals just out of reach, which had me fully invested in the book, desperate to know what would happen next! There are quite a few twists and turns and several shocking reveals which had me reeling.
A dark, gritty, captivating page turner!

4.5 Stars – Creepy, Gripping, and Unputdownable
This was my first Carter Wilson book, and it definitely won’t be my last! I absolutely loved it and couldn’t put it down. It was downright creepy—so much so that after reading it last night, I found myself checking my closet and shower for murderers.
The story centers on Poe, who hosts a podcast where people confess their crimes to unburden themselves. Things take a chilling turn when a guest with traumatic ties to her past comes on the show, forcing her own life to become part of the narrative. As he begins stalking her, the tension skyrockets.
I don’t want to give away too much because thrillers are best experienced without spoilers, but Poe’s backstory—and the secret she needs to confess—is captivating and well-developed. There were even moments when I found her a bit unsettling.
The format was another highlight for me. The narrative alternates between events leading up to a pivotal, climactic day, which masterfully builds suspense and keeps you guessing until the end.
This book delivered everything I want in a thriller. Just read it—you won’t regret it!
Thank you NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the ARC!

Thank you Poisoned Pen Press & Carter Wilson for this read!
Wow this book had a hold on me. I was reading another book and I completely neglected it for this one! Told through a podcast and first POV, the author did an amazing job at making us sympathise with the main character and justify all their actions. The book built up so much suspense and I was hurridly reading pages trying to find out what was going to happen. A solid twist, some gruesome moments and a thrilling ending. This book had it all.
You NEED to pick this up on its release. I know it's going to be in the top reads for many thriller lovers in 2025!

Carter Wilson really put the thrill in thriller with Tell Me What You Did. I was on the edge of my seat from the first page until the very last. The dual timelines added so much tension, keeping me on edge the entire time. While I did manage to guess the plot and wasn’t a fan of Poe as a character, neither detracted from my overall enjoyment of the book.

Wow! Just f-%@#&5-g wow! This book was absolutely incredible! I could not stop turning the pages. Honestly if I didn’t have my own book to work on, I would have read this in one shot. Even as I neared the end, I didn’t want the story to be over, but I couldn’t stop! I loved everything about this story. The characters, the pacing, the tension, absolutely all of it was on point. And speaking of characters, Poe is officially one of my favorite characters. She reminded me a lot of Jade Daniels. In fact, the way the story ended reminded me an awful lot of how I felt going into book two of the Indian Lake Trilogy, as well as when that same trilogy ended. Bittersweet, but knowing that’s how it needed to be. But oh man, how I love a morally grey character, just like Poe! I could go on and on, but I think you get the point. Carter Wilson absolutely nailed it with this one. I’ve never read anything of his before, but he will definitely be on my list of authors I always buy from, from now on. And although this book is a standalone, it is set up to have a sequel. So here I am, just a girl, begging Carter for more of Poe!
Huge thanks to Poisoned Pen Press and NetGalley for sending me this ARC for review! All of my reviews are given honestly!

Book Review: Tell Me What You Did by Carter Wilson
Tell Me What You Did by Carter Wilson is a gripping psychological thriller that keeps you hooked from start to finish. The story follows Poe Webb, the host of a wildly popular true crime podcast where people can anonymously confess their darkest secrets. But things take a chilling turn when someone from Poe’s past reveals they know a dangerous secret she’s been hiding. Suddenly, the confessions feel a little too close to home, and Poe’s carefully constructed life begins to unravel.
Wilson does an incredible job blending suspense with emotional depth. Poe is such a complex character—she’s tough and determined, yet clearly haunted by her past. The podcast angle makes the story feel modern and unique, especially with how the anonymous confessions build tension throughout the book. Each reveal feels like a puzzle piece, making you question who can really be trusted.
The pacing is perfect, with short, intense chapters that keep you flipping pages. The twists? Mind-blowing. Just when you think you’ve figured things out, Wilson throws in another curveball. The ending, especially, left me speechless—it was both satisfying and emotionally heavy.
If you’re a fan of true crime, dark secrets, and psychological thrillers that keep you guessing, Tell Me What You Did is a must-read. It’s haunting, addictive, and impossible to put down.

This book was amazing. I was hooked from the first few pages and couldnt put it down. Highly recommend.

Carter Wilson hooks you in right from the start. The alternating chapters between past and present kept me on the edge of my seat, almost frustratingly so, as I kept turning the pages. I couldn't read this book quickly enough. The morally ambiguous character of Poe keeps you intrigued while constantly making you question whether you should side with her. Although some aspects of the book felt a bit slow or predictable, Wilson's writing style kept me engaged until the very end. I would highly recommend this book, especially for readers looking for a quick yet captivating read. While it may not be the most jaw-dropping thriller I've ever encountered, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Eerie, gritty, misty and bleak. The vibes were just what I needed to keep me slightly freaked out throughout the whole book, exactly what you want from this kind of story!
Poe, the protagonist, runs a “confess your crimes”-style true crime podcast, is haunted by past trauma and, soon one of her podcast guests becomes her new foe. He is the perfectly portrayed villain - deranged, creepy and down-right awful.
Beyond that, there were just a few things that fell short for me. I would’ve liked to get to know Poe better. Though I can totally understand why she was written that way, I felt as though there was more of a focus on her being morally gray for the sake of it, rather than her character development. Additionally, I have to admit that I saw the big reveal coming fairly early on in the storyline. I found myself wondering why Poe had not. Also, there was a lull in the story where there didn’t need to be when Poe moved away and decided on the livestream.
However, I thoroughly enjoyed the short chapters switching between podcast transcripts and traditional play-by-play of events. It made the book fly by!
Thank you so much to NetGalley, the author and Poisoned Pen Press for the arc. All opinions are my own.

I was glued from the start and read it in one sitting.
It truly gets into your head as good psychological novels do.
Thank you to the publisher for the opportunity to read this advanced copy. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This book touches on seeking justice and saving yourself, sometimes the lines are blurred. I haven't read anything quite like this. At times, I felt as if I had privy to someone's confession that I wished I hadn't known. This spikes some moral differences, such as if someone kills a bad person is that okay compared to murdering an innocent person, which ignites a morally gray area.
When Poe becomes very successful on her Podcast "Tell Me What You Did" by taking anonymous apologies or confessions when they wronged someone, she never expects her mother's killer to confess to her. She knows this cannot be the killer because she hunted him down in N.Y. and killed him herself. Is the truth going to come out about her crime?
With her loving father, her sweet dog Bailey, and boyfriend Kip, she seeks justice while drawing this guy into the limelight with the help of her fans. This is one of the best books written and even has a character Alice that was actually portrayed in one of his other books. Brilliantly connected!
A fast-paced story, you will not forget. It is hard to build trust and know who Poe could talk to. Her sleuthing and decision making drove me nuts. When it started I thought this was going to be too gruesome for my taste, but it set the stage for her anger and why she did what she did.
Thanks NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for this incredible ARC in exchange for my review.

I rarely read 5 stars, can’t put ‘em down thrillers anymore cause I find a lot boring, but man this one hooked me. Easily a favorite thriller I’ve read in the last few years and I was shaken with how much I liked this one from the get go. Poe is a podcaster inviting criminals to share their crimes and the set up is perfect until a man comes on claiming to have killed her mother.
Poe has a lot of secrets surrounding her mother’s death and this guy wants to drag her secrets out in the open for the world to share and he isn’t taking no for an answer. One thing I loved about this book was that you knew how the harm would play out, you get that as the story goes, but you’re guessing who the victims and the criminal is. Is he who he says he is, is he not? What’s his motive, his reasoning, his goal. This is what keeps you hooked as you read from start to finish!
I don’t know how to say more without spoiling so I’ll just say go check this one out, I think most people will enjoy this one!

I was definitely on the edge of my seat reading this. The author 100% crafted a creepy villain in Ian Hindley.
Poe is a challenge, as she's a tough nut to crack. Kind of a loner honestly, she's battling her demons and ghosts and she's doing it with her vices; alcohol, coffee, and this obsession with confessions. Maybe because she has a confession of her own that she's never spoken?
Pacing was back and forth. On one hand I was patiently waiting for this story to unravel as the author feeds us each day leading up to October 31, interspersed with chapters with Poe's forced confession on Oct 31 with Ian Hindley acting as the interviewer. It was nail biting and yet somehow slow at the same time. The reader starts to try and put things together and Poe's paranoia about who to trust starts to bleed from the pages and into your mind, starting to suspect anyone and everyone who could be involved. Ultimately, I'm glad that the ending was realistic, as I hate when there is this hero moment that's kind of crazy in order to force a happy ending. This ending is happy but also deserving. I enjoyed it, will definitely read more by this author!
