This is everything a cat-and-mouse thriller should be.
I'm a sucker for social media era thrillers. Things surrounding reality shows, podcasts, and things of that nature. This book has an incredible story interspersed with snippets of a podcast between the main character and her nemesis. For once, I actually figured out the "twist" and it did not detract from what was going on here at all.
Written in such a way that you absolutely can't stop reading until you know what happens, I highly highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a tense, anxiety-ridden ride between heroine and villain.
5/5 stars. I'd give it more if I could.
Not sure I feel about this yet. A lot of built up tension where the ending fell a bit flat for me. However, still such a good read overall!
Poe is the host of a true-crime podcast where people call and anonymously confess their crimes. When a man calls and claims to be the man who murdered Poe's mother years ago, Poe's reality comes crashing down because she murdered her mother's killer years ago... or so she thought.
Fasten your seatbelts ladies and gentlemen as Carter Wilson takes you on a ride through Poe's eyes. This book is fast-paced, complex and down right CREEPY! Any true crime lover will enjoy the twists and turns this book puts you through. When you think you have it figured out - you haven't! I read this book in two days but would have finished it so much faster if it wasn't back to school time (I'm a teacher).
Overall, I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the thriller/crime genre. As an avid thriller/crime reader AND true crime podcast listener myself, I knew from the minute I read the description that I was going to love this book.
Thank you so much to Poisoned Pen Press and Net Galley for this Advanced Readers Copy in exchange for my honest review.
This was fantastic. I really enjoyed reading it and didn’t want to put it down. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this ARC!
Poe makes her living by getting people to tell her about their darkest secrets on her podcast. This is a considerable risk, given her suspect past – which includes murder.
While she’s managed to fly under the radar for years, her most recent guest has threatened to upend her entire life, as he somehow knows what she has been hiding. What will happen to Poe when the truth finally comes out?
This was a compelling read. Author Carter Wilson does a great job of building tension by using flashbacks that reveal pieces of Poe’s past. Poe as a protagonist is incredibly flawed, which is realistic given the trauma she has experienced. Her battle with alcohol isn’t sugarcoated; there is not an easy fix for the problems she can’t drink away, and her inability to stay sober adds to the stress of the plot.
While the story is suspenseful, the way it is all tied together feels anticlimactic. However, that has more to do with how well Wilson created the buildup of tension; the book's conclusion is therefore overshadowed.
Overall, Tell Me What You Did is an entertaining read and would make a great choice for a book group. It should also be noted that Wilson gives a nod to one of his earlier works (Mr. Tender’s Girl) throughout, so if you enjoyed this one, that would be a good choice to read next.
Thanks to Poisoned Pen and NetGalley for the ARC. I had previously read one of Wilson's books and enjoyed it, but WOW this one was an excellent heart pounding ride. Highly recommend.
Wilson is a new author for me and let me tell you, I'm a permanent fan now! This was absolutely amazing! The thrill, the suspense, the mystery, it was all there. I couldn't stop turning the pages. I needed more and I needed to know what was going to happen. This is the perfect example of an absolutely gripping thriller. I'm a huge fan and I can't wait to see what Wilson gives us next!
Phenomenal.. this is my absolute favourite read this entire year, this book blew me away!!
I went into this one blind and I was so pleasantly surprised! Our female protagonist, Poe, is complex, flawed an anti hero who I absolutely adore and stand behind no matter what. Her character was so loveable I want to be best friends with this person!
If you prefer context to the plot keep reading!
The story follows a podcast presented by Poe and produced with the help of her boyfriend Kip. (Before you eye roll and yawn at the podcast concept.. this was done in a way that was so beyond unique it had my jaw to the floor).
Poe invites guests to her podcast and says 5 simple words before giving them the floor.. “tell me what you did”. The guests proceed to confess their sins, their crimes and whatever details they need to get off their chest. The podcast is a huge success until she gets one terrifying guest who may be linked to Poes past in a way that is unpredictable, terrifying and insane.
I could not stop reading, the pacing was perfection. The chapters are divided into the events leading up to a live stream, and the dialogue between Poe and an unhinged organizer of a live interview.
I was not bored for a single second, I devoured every single word, thought, conversation. I wanted all the details, every ounce of the history, present and future surrounding these characters.
An absolute MUST READ!

So while I did enjoy this book, and I would continue to read any new books of this authors, I felt like it did drag a little at certain points. Or rather, not that it dragged but every scene was just stretched out a little too much. It felt like a book that was made just a little bit too long. And that a little bit of almost every chapter couldve been taken out so that each one packed more of a punch.
The main character was also pretty unlikeable in her interactions with almost everyone and her consistent denial over.. well, everything, just made for a super frustrating read. That being said, I do really like the authors writing and I still found it to be a great premise. I would still rate this book a 3.5 out of 5 (rounded up to 4)
Here is my confession…
I do love a good revenge story. However, I’m not thrilled with the whole “Podcast” format when delivered in book form.
In stating such, this story follows Poe Web, a popular podcaster, who has a show that is based on confessions. In comes Ian Hindley , who ‘confesses’ to committing crimes involving Poe’s family, specifically her mother. And we’re off…
A game of cat and mouse and terror ensues. The chapters are short, the pace fast, and the storyline rather refreshing, given I’m not much for the whole podcast format, that says a lot.
I could not give more than 3 stars for two reasons: 1. Though this story is edgy, it’s also very dark and bleak. 2. I felt the ending was really dragged out, and could have been wrapped up in fewer pages.
Not a bad read.
Thank you NetGalley and the Publisher for this eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
6/10
It was decent. Nothing really blew my mind but it wasn't bad. I like that the chapters are short and fast paced. The premise is very interesting - I always enjoy stuff with podcasts. I think that the final reveal is a bit anticlimactic and came out of nowhere.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an early reader copy.
This book had me on the edge of my seat. The characters are wonderful and I loved the entire plot of the book. It has a cat and mouse feel to it. I highly recommend it!!
This was a thriller that checked all the boxes for me! I love anything to do with the podcast trope so this was perfect for me. I also love the revenge aspect of this book, it feels satisfying. I thought the true crime podcast having strangers confess to crimes was a very unique idea for this book and the author did an amazing job. I absolutely recommend!
Thank you, Net Galley & Poisoned Pen Press, for the ARC of Tell Me What You Did in exchange for an honest review
Tell Me What You Did follows Poe Web, host of popular True Crime podcast who gives the opportunity to real criminals to commit their crimes. Things get turned upside for Poe and we follow her journey through this twisty, crazy, creepy story.
If you're looking for a book that will have you hooked and on edge, definitely check this one out, you will not be disappointed.
4.5 stars
WOW!!! Read this book in 2 days, couldn’t put it down!
Absolutely thrilling. The book is a “ripper”- a book so thrilling you’re nearly ripping the pages off as you turn them.
The author wishes the reader to feel the story is “unlike any they’ve read before and leave with a sense of satisfaction about the protagonists ultimate fate. This was exactly how I felt
I love a good revenge thriller and this book checked all my boxes! Poe Webb is a true crime podcast host. Her podcast highlights those with a common need, a confession to make. The next call in on her podcast is Ian Hindley, a man claiming to know more about Poe’s past than her own family. I don’t want to spoil anything, but definitely recommend this creepy thriller! I had a hard time putting this down! Thanks to Poisoned Pen Press, Net Galley, and Carter Wilson for the ARC!
4 stars-A little bit of a slow start and then it just took off. Poe (of Edgar Allen fame) is a podcaster whose show is based on confessions. A guest named Ian Hindley (a combo of the names of the famous English killers the Moors) comes onto her show. He confesses to murdering her mother when she was a teenager. He taunts her into doing a livestream where she will talk about being a witness to the murder.) This book takes the fear of being stalked to a whole new level! I am glad I was reading it during the daytime! And for those who are worried, small spoiler, but one I would want to know, Bailey the black lab is unhurt in the book. Thank you Carter Wilson for sparing her! This is my second Carter Wilson book. I really enjoy how he is able to increase the tension of the plot and to throw little twists in. Overall, I definitely recommend this one. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the arc.

Thank you Netgalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the opportunity to get early access to this gem !!!
The story starts quickly jumping straight into one of Poe Webbs crime podcasts, where she anonymously interviews strangers from the general public through the internet and asks them to confess their crimes.
As the story continues the chapters follow a now and then type of timeline, where Poe is interviewed by a man in the style of her own podcasts and current timeline building up to the events before the interview took place.
WOW…just wow 🤩 everything about this book from the moment you read the first chapter to the last it has you biting your nails and on the edge of your seat waiting to find out. I LOVE LOVEE LOVEEE the true crime references such as the Moors murders it really adds such character and realism to the book i have never seen this in a thriller before (amazingly done may I add such an intriguing plot).
Carter Wilson has such an intriguing way of writing and weaving in those little details all through the book. Short chapters so easy to read and follow, really enjoyed this book🤭🤭
The only reason this book loses the .75 stars is because It could have been capped at about 300 pages the end bit probably didn’t need to get dragged out as much as it did and I wish there was a more sinister or thrilling ending to the book!
Wow!!! 🤩
I rarely give out 5 stars in my reviews but Tell me what you did is a solid 5 star in my opinion. The storyline was different and so refreshing. I read a lot and find many of the books to really have the same storylines (the maid, the babysitter, etc.), so I was completely hooked with a new theme.
The entire book was a game of cat and mouse and I honestly only guessed one part which wasn’t the ending. It was a gripping page turner that will hook you in the first chapter and keep you hooked until the last.
The writing style was well done and the characters were so realistic. Readers can put themselves in Poe’s position and question what they would have done.
I love a revenge thriller and this book was just that. Suspenseful in all the right places!
Thank you to NetGalley, author Carter Wilson and Poisoned Pen Publishing for the ARC and opportunity to review this book. I am 100% adding this author to my must read list!
5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This suspenseful masterpiece written by Carter Wilson is gripping and thrilling in all the good ways.
I literally finished this book in one night, I was so engrossed that I kept checking my windows and doorway because that's how good the book was in pulling you into the story. I felt the unease and paranoia that the characters of the book were feeling and I honestly have not read a good thriller like this in a really long time.
The storytelling was also rather unique with a combination of flashbacks and present day events through a live podcast. I like how the book did not make the lead characters trauma their demise but rather something to draw power from which is also very refreshing.
Publication date is 14 January 2025. Don't forget to preorder!
