In this gripping thriller, we follow Poe Webb, the host of a popular true crime podcast who invites people to anonymously confess crimes they've committed to her audience. Things take a turn for the worst when one of her guests confesses murdering her mother when she was a teenager.

This book was creepy! While the reveals were relatively unsurprising, the tension built up point by point until I could not put the book down and had to keep reading until the end. I really loved the character of Poe. Despite her flaws, she is strong and intelligent, and I could not help rooting for her. Her relationship with her father was beautifully developed, and he also felt authentic.

A recommended read for fans of Mister Tender's Girl. and Listen for the Lie.

Thank you to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for providing me with a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Fast, thrilling, cunning, revenge seeking and creepy. I could go on but let’s just say.. READ IT! You will not be disappointed.

At age 13 Poe witnesses the most horrific thing imaginable. Nine years later she goes looking for revenge. Now, present day, the past is coming back to turn her life upside down. Poe is the host of a true crime podcast inviting people to confess their crimes for the world to hear. Her latest guest is eager to confess his crime, he claims he’s the one who murdered her mother. He can’t be…she killed him. Didn’t she?

Poe along with her sidekick Bailey and her kick-ass dad are an absolute force to be reckoned with. The chase never lets up and will have you gasping till the end.

Tell Me What You Did was my first of Carter Wilson’s books. Not to be my last for sure. Definitely an author to keep an eye on.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review.

I have never read a thriller quite like this before. The short chapters kept me even more hooked to turn the pages which was a bonus on that. The storyline was incredibly chilling. Wilson's writing is sharp and incisive, creating a tense atmosphere that builds steadily as the plot unfolds. This was a great thriller. One-part first-person narrative and one-part podcast interview format. When you think you have the plot figured out it would go in another direction. I liked the main character Poe. She was flawed in many ways but she didn’t back down from taking charge. If you're a crime junkie, obsessed with podcasts and serial killer stories, this one will keep you on the edge of your seat. This is my first book by this author but I will definitely be checking out his previous books. Thanks to Carter Wilson, Netgalley and Poison Press for an e-arc in exchange for my thoughts.

The concept for this book is amazing, a podcaster who invites people on her show to confess to a crime? Count me in! I felt like I was right there with Poe through the entire book and could see what was actually happening. The writing style pulled me in and I had to keep reading to find out what was going to happen. This is a great read!

Poe doesn't expect her podcast to take off but when she interviews someone who claims to be her mother's killer, she is stunned. She thought the murderer was dead. In fact she knows it because she killed him. Wow, what a brilliant book this was! I was gasping as I read, with the cat and mouse chase so cleverly written. If you're a thriller lover, this one needs to be on your radar.

Hmmmm...the promise of a thriller grabbed me but it quickly became clear this is not the case. Poe Webb hosts a wildly popular true crime podcast and due to guests making confessions, she understandably has a list of rules. One guest looks vaguely familiar and tells Poe he is her mother's killer. But Poe knows that's impossible. Or is it?

Excellent concept but I despised the characters so much I didn't even desire to know the ending and am glad not to have a Poe in my life. I like some darkness in books but this is a step too far. This non-thriller was a DNF for me but I can see how it would appeal to others' tastes.

This is a standalone book but there are some references to his previous book, Mister Tender's Girl & an appearance of the FMC from that book. As this was my first book from this author I didn't know about any of that and again, you do not need to read that one to understand his latest novel. But I will def be checking out his backlist because Tell Me What You Did was amazing! This intense psychological thriller centers on Poe, a true crime podcaster. I happen to love books focused on a podcast crime solver and this was no exception. The twist, Poe's podcast provides a platform for those that have a confession to make. These confessors want to share their story with Poe & her audience. Maybe they just want to unburden themselves or maybe they like being able to relive one of their darkest moments with an audience. Poe never knows what to expect with her guests. But what happens when one of her guests seems to know about her darkest secrets?
Those secrets she kept buried from everyone are threatening to come out. This had me on the edge of my seat and I loved how unpredictable it was. Thank you to NetGalley, Poisoned Pen Press, & Carter Wilson for this eARC.

I was a huge fan of the layout of this book! Poe was such an engaging and flawed protagonist and it was so easy to put yourself inside of her mind. There were enough twists and turns to make me keep hanging on to every word. Great novel!

I can’t stop thinking about this book! Tell Me What You Did is everything I love in a thriller—secrets, tension, and best of all, a podcast at the heart of the story. Carter Wilson pulled me in from page one and kept me hooked until the very last twist.

The podcast element was woven in so perfectly, adding layers of suspense and giving the story a modern, fresh vibe. The characters felt real, especially as their pasts unraveled in unexpected ways. I couldn’t tell who was telling the truth, which made the ride even more thrilling.

If you love thrillers with podcasts (like I do), you HAVE to pick this one up. It’s fast-paced, twisty, and impossible to put down. Definitely 5 stars!

Thank you so much to Netgalley, Carter Wilson, and Poisoned Pen Press for the #ARC in return for an honest review!!

This was intensely so good that I am still thinking about it. It has been quite some time since I have been so entertained by a thriller or mystery book. Grab this book ASAP! Short blurb: Poe was only 13 years old when she saw her mom being murdered right in front of her. When she got older, she created a true crime inspired podcast where people anonymously tell her about the crimes they committed. But one day, she sees a familiar face who's stating to be the one that killed her mom. But Poe killed her mother's killer years ago.... right?

What did I enjoy/what to expect?
👍🏻I felt so invested in Poe and her life/the plot. I couldn't stop reading and seeing where this would go.
👍🏻unreliable narrators
👍🏻short chapters
👍🏻Podcast elements (the idea of this podcast is fascinating)
👍🏻serial killer vibes
👍🏻Psychological thriller aspects
👍🏻CREEPY VIBES.... I got literal chills reading about Ian Hindley. Monsters are real and Wilson did such a good job with the descriptions and feelings.
👍🏻atmospheric, thrilling, haunting, and suspenseful

What could have been better?
👎🏼I think the twist was predictable (which was a bit disappointing) but I do not think it took away much from this book tbh yes you have to suspend some belief when reading this (in regard to the criminal justice system)

First of all I have to say thank you for giving me the opportunity to be an advanced reader for this book.
I think I forgot how to breathe throughout most of this story. This thriller had me at the edge of my seat and made every moment away from it impossible to stop thinking about what would be happening next. This was my first book by Carter Wilson and it will definitely not be my last! I love the writing, the way tension builds to a point where I simply hold my breath for too long and a protagonist that captivates you from the get go. This was an original gripping thriller and I think anyone with a love for true crime and revenge will eat this one up!
Now I need to get my hands on “Mister Tender’s Girl”

** I received an ARC copy of this book in return for an honest review **
I was so excited for this concept when I read about it and it did not let me down.
I will admit at the start it was a little slow, and I do not like how pushy Kip was (but that's personal) but I was very much along for the heart pounding ride.

Tell Me What You Did - Carter Wilson
Pub Date - 1/28/25
Rating - 3/5
Summary - Poe Webb, the host of a true crime podcast, invites her listeners to come on her show to confess to their crimes. She doesn't tell her listeners the real name of the confessor, unless he/she wants to share that information voluntarily. She gets a strange call from a man who claims that he killed her mother years ago. Poe knows this isn't true because years ago, she murdered her mom's killer. Who is this man, and could Poe have killed the wrong person?

Thoughts - Thank you Netgalley and Poisoned Pen Press for this ARC in exchange for my honest review. Goodness, this book had me in a chokehold during the first part! It was so action packed that I wanted to get through it ASAP. The short chapters and chapter cliffhangers make you want to keep reading and start the next chapter. After the first part, the plot seemed to drag on. There were many parts that could have been completely taken out of the book because they added absolutely nothing to the overall plot of the book. I felt like if this story was condensed, it would have had a much higher rating from me. Also, the novel is more of a mystery vs a thriller. The "big reveal" at the end was....meh. I wasn't shocked by it at all. Overall, not a bad story.

4.5 stars!

Carter Wilson was one of the first authors I read when starting my bookstagram account. His novel, Mister Tender's Girl, was one of my favorite reads of 2018. There's a scene in that book that still haunts me to this day. That being said, I haven't really caught up with this author's works in recent years. I was told by MANY of my bookstagram followers that I needed to read TELL ME WHAT YOU DID, and I am so happy I listened!

Poe Webb hosts a very popular podcast where she gets people to confess their darkest secrets and crimes, but she’s hiding one of her own. When a man appears on her true crime podcast claiming to be her mother’s killer, Poe is shaken—but she knows he’s lying. Because her mother’s murderer is already dead, and Poe is the one who killed him.

This book is utter suspenseful perfection! I was hooked from the very beginning and there's no slow down throughout the story. This book is the anti-slow burn, that's for sure. I am literally telling all my IRL friends that they need to read this when it comes out early 2025 because it's going to be a big hit for readers. I did take a half star off the rating because the timeline jumps, although appropriate for keeping up with suspense, it left me a bit confused while trying to follow, so I had to make sure and check for the timeline jumps. Otherwise, this book is a total landslide win for me! You MUST put this book on your TBR now!

Poe Webb (yes named after Edgar Allen Poe) runs the top ranked podcast. She invites people to come on to her podcast and confess what crimes they have committed to her audience. Some are scary, some are creepy, but mostly it is people who are unburdening themselves from something that happened long ago that they can no longer be arrested for.

Poe, like the callers on her show, has secrets of her own. One day, she gets an odd request from a caller and memories and secrets from her past come flooding back. This book is completely unhinged. This is a dark and gritty psychological thriller that can be devoured nonstop. The back and forth between podcast transcripts and what is happening in real life as she tries to come clean with her secrets and stay safe, will make this one of the best psychological thrillers of 2025. Promise.

Thank you to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the ARC

Plot: When Carter was a child, she witnessed her mom’s murder. She later went on to murder who she believed was her mom’s murderer. Now, as an adult, she has a true crime podcast where people confess their crimes. But when a guest appears and claims to be her mom’s murderer (and knows undisclosed details about the murder), it becomes clear that she may be in danger

Review: I loved the premise of this. This was an easy popcorn thriller with short chapters, and I never felt confused or overwhelmed. The writing was okay - maybe more YA at times than I prefer. I liked the ending - I appreciated that there wasn’t an off-the-wall ridiculous twist - it felt like the reveal made sense. I didn’t particularly like any of the characters, and their interactions seemed a bit odd at times. Overall, I think anyone who enjoys cat and mouse thrillers (eg No Exit) would like this

Thank you NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for sending this eARC for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

Poe has a successful podcast where guests come on to confess to a crime they committed. Poe was also a witness to a brutal crime as a child, the murder of her mother. She also has a secret that she does not want known. Her latest guest confesses to the murder of her mother, but how can that be when she believes the true killer is already dead?

This is a cat and mouse thriller where the more Poe learns, the more she has to reveal about herself.

If you enjoyed Listen for the Lie, you will love Tell Me What You Did!

Poe is a podcast host who invites people to come on her show and confess their crimes. This concept alone had me hooked. But then an unthinkable guest joins the pod, someone who claims to be responsible for a tragic event in Poe's past. Is he telling the truth, or is he just a troll?

The integration of podcast scripts into the narrative was absolutely seamless. There was zero repetition, and every segment added depth to the plot. This book is completely addicting. I did not want to put it down. I loved the morally gray FMC and how thoroughly flushed out the plot was. My only "critique" was the ending. It fell a little flat and was just a bit too tidy. I was hoping for a final twist or gut punch, but I do appreciate there weren't any loose ends.

This book is smart, fast-paced, and exactly what I want in a psychological thriller. Thank you, NetGalley and the publisher, for the opportunity to read an advanced copy!
