As a true crime podcast enthusiast, the fact that the main character is a true crime podcast host really made me want to read it. Poe has a podcast in which she allows people to confess to crimes they have committed. Eventually, someone connected to her past comes along and the thriller begins. Honestly, this book creeped me out, and I'm not usually one to get creeped out. This only made me want to read more. I would highly recommend it. Thank you for providing me with this ARC.

I loved the podcast element in Tell Me What You Did, it was very unique and the book had me hooked quickly. Unfortunately about halfway into it, I was bored. The story itself got really repetitive and very predictable. The big reveal was very obvious if you read any thriller/murder mystery. The writing was strong, but overall there just need to be more to the story or it needed to be shorter.

This was my first read by Carter Wilson, and definitely not my last - this book was fantastic cover to cover.

The way the book flip flops between present tense and a future interview between Poe (our protagonist) and the man claiming to be her mother's murderer made me unable to put down the book after any certain chapters. You'd think you're good to put the book down for the moment, and the next chapter is interview-style, dropping more information you crave.

Just Wilson describing the man who is tormenting Poe is enough to send shivers down anyone's spine - the laugh, his appearance, I'll be seeing this guy in my nightmares for sure. I think that in itself speaks of how well this book is written.

Ultimately I can't give too much information on this book as that will spoil a lot of it, just believe me when I say it's good, and it should definitely go on your TBR!

And after the little blurb about Alice, Mister Tender's Girl is 100% on my TBR! I can't wait to read that one!

Tell Me What You Did is a successful true crime podcast hosted by Poe Webb, on which guests confess to crimes on every level, from trivial petty grievances to felonies that have run out the statute of limitations. Poe’s latest guest turns the tables on her, as he claims to know what dark secret is weighing on her own conscience. Wilson’s villain is cold and calculating, but so is his portrayal of Poe. This is a dark, twisty thriller that explores how one may justify truly awful actions when seeking justice.

Carter Wilson’s Tell Me What You Did is an intense, gripping thriller that hooked me from the first page and refused to let go. With a unique premise and relentless pacing, this book dives into the darkest corners of the human mind, weaving suspense, secrets, and a haunting sense of unease into every chapter.

The story centers on Poe, the host of a podcast where people anonymously confess their crimes. When someone with ties to her own past turns the tables, her life spirals into chaos. Wilson masterfully balances Poe’s unraveling personal life with a chilling antagonist who stands out as one of the creepiest villains I’ve encountered in recent fiction. The way the narrative unfolds, jumping between past and present, ratchets up the tension and keeps you guessing until the shocking conclusion.

Poe is a deeply flawed but relatable character. Her intelligence and resilience shine, but her vulnerability—especially through her connection with her dog, Bailey—adds layers of depth. At times, even Poe’s own actions feel unsettling, making her journey all the more compelling.

This is a thriller that doesn’t just entertain—it lingers. The writing is taut, vivid, and often downright chilling. I caught myself double-checking doors and closets after late-night reading sessions. Fans of psychological suspense will find much to love here, and the unique podcast angle brings a fresh twist to the genre.

Thank you to NetGalley, Carter Wilson, and Poisoned Pen Press for the ARC of this unputdownable book. If you’re a fan of dark, atmospheric thrillers with plenty of twists, Tell Me What You Did is one to add to your list.

Many thanks to Netgalley for providing me a copy of this book.
I really enjoyed this book! I loved Poe as the narrator and I was happy to see the ending it had as I wasn't sure it would be a satisfying one. The twist was kinda expected but that did not stop me from reading. I am off to check out more books by this author!

Tell Me What You Did by Carter Wilson is a chilling psychological thriller that explores the dangerous intersection of truth, guilt, and the secrets we keep hidden from even ourselves. Poe Webb, the host of a popular true crime podcast, is a master at helping people confess their crimes anonymously, allowing them to unburden themselves while granting them instant notoriety. But when a mysterious man appears on her show claiming to be the murderer of Poe's mother—a man Poe knows to be dead—her carefully constructed world begins to unravel.

Wilson builds a tense and twisty narrative as Poe, a woman who has spent her career listening to others' confessions, is forced to confront the terrifying reality that her own dark secret has been lurking just beneath the surface. As the podcast world collides with Poe’s personal trauma, the lines between her show and real life blur, forcing her to face the consequences of the crime she herself committed years ago.

The story is fast-paced, filled with psychological tension and unpredictable twists that keep readers on edge. Poe is a compelling protagonist, both sympathetic and deeply flawed, struggling to reconcile the woman she is with the darkness of her past. The introduction of the mysterious man, who seems to know more about Poe than he should, adds a layer of haunting complexity to the plot, drawing readers into a cat-and-mouse game of secrets and lies.

Carter Wilson expertly crafts a narrative where the search for truth becomes a perilous journey, and the past has a way of resurfacing when least expected. Tell Me What You Did is a gripping exploration of memory, guilt, and the way we deceive ourselves in order to survive. With its shocking revelations and high-stakes suspense, it’s a thriller that will keep you guessing until the very end.

For fans of psychological thrillers and character-driven suspense, Tell Me What You Did is a must-read. Wilson has crafted a twisty, dark tale that questions the nature of confession and the price of unburdening oneself—especially when the truth is more dangerous than anyone could have imagined.

Wow. Just WOW. This book has it all! From the very first page, I was hooked—completely unable to tear myself away from the gritty, dark world of Poe Webb and her unforgettable podcast. The concept is so fresh and original: inviting criminals to confess their sins on air? Genius!!! Add in the fact that Poe’s life is built on secrets and lies, and you’ve got a story that’s not just thrilling but utterly mind-bending.

The twists in this book are pure brilliance. When a guest on Poe's show claims to have murdered her mother—knowing that Poe herself killed the real murderer—it’s a setup for one of the most intense, high-stakes thrillers I’ve ever read. The pacing is lightning-fast, the suspense builds perfectly, and the dual timelines expertly pull you deeper into Poe’s chilling, complex world.

Poe is a standout character—sharp, flawed, and incredibly compelling. I loved being in her head, even as her reality unraveled. And the formatting! The back-and-forth between past events and the present-day confessions was masterfully done, keeping the tension high and the pages turning.

If you’re a fan of true crime podcasts, psychological suspense, or books that challenge your idea of morality, this is the one! Easily one of my top reads of the year—Poe Webb is a character I won’t soon forget. Dark, twisted, and impossible to put down! Highly recommend!

🇬🇧 This book started off really strong—I devoured the first half in two days! The writing was great, the podcast element was an interesting touch, and the tension in the first chapters had me completely hooked. However, when I reached the halfway point, I felt the plot slowed down and became repetitive. It turned into more of a crime drama than a thriller, and to be honest, I started to get bored. The twists also weren’t surprising—if you’ve read a few thrillers, you’ll probably guess the plot twist by chapter 20 like I did (there are 100 chapters…). The characters, in general, had underdeveloped arcs, and I felt like I didn’t really get to know any of them. Despite these critiques, the writing still kept me engaged with the story. In summary: overall, I liked the book, enjoyed the podcast element, but found it repetitive and predictable. If you're a fan of thrillers with podcasts, this book is for you!

Poe Webb hosts a popular podcast, where she invites people to confess their crimes to the world, anonymously, however bad. But one person comes on her show with a claim that shakes her to her core: that he’s the man who murdered her mother 17 years ago while she watched helplessly. But Poe doesn’t want to believe him, because if that’s true, then she murdered an innocent man as revenge. As the man’s demands ramp up, it’s clear he won’t stop until he gets to Poe herself in a final confrontation.

This book was an amazing ride from start to finish. The suspense was just dialed up to 11 and didn’t let go until the end. I couldn’t stop reading. I was so hooked. From the central mystery of the caller’s identity to what was going to happen to Poe and her “entourage,” through this whole mess, I was hooked as each new turn came and went. The pages flew by.

I had sort of guessed part of the twist, but the sign of a good book is that it keeps your interest because you have to see how the rest of it will play out, and I NEEDED to know how things were going to go. And if I was right, because I wasn’t even sure. So I definitely didn’t mind that I had guessed. The book wasn’t spoiled at all. It was just a little bump on the way.

And Poe was 100 percent worth rooting for. She was deeply damaged and just trying to make it through. That made me feel more connected to her because she wasn’t some perfect heroine. She was a “normal” woman who had problems and dealt with them poorly like the rest of us sometimes do. I mean, hers were obviously exaggerated for entertainment purposes, but the idea is there.

Overall, this is a great mystery/thriller for anyone who is a fan of the genre. Pick this one up ASAP!

I was disappointed with this one. I just couldn't get into it as it was too slow for me and I ended up DNF'ing it at 28%. Thanks to the publisher and netgalley for the gifted copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. I won't leave a bad review on my accounts because I don't feel I can do that if I don't read the whole book!

Hello everyone my name is Poe Webb and my podcast is the top ranked crime podcast in the country where, I invite the public to come on and confess their crimes with no idea of each guest's crime until they tell me.
For 17 years, I've been holding on for a secret that nobody knows and I think soon the whole world will. 17 years ago, I witnessed my mother's murder and now it is all coming back to me and WHY??? Because a person admitting to being my mother's killer is currently on my podcast but it can't be because he's dead and you know how I know he's dead? Because I killed him!!!!
I get people to confess their crimes and he knows I'm hiding a terrible secret and for the first time I have to be the subject of my own show.

What a terrifying rollercoaster the book was!!! It's my first time reading a book that is intense with creepy and toxic characters. Poe's character is what you call morally gray so there's many ups and downs in her character throughout the book. As for the killer, OMG I wanted to kill him he's seriously damaged and ugly and reading what he did made my stomach ache.
The plot twist at the end wasn't expected at all, I had my theories but none of them were true which was good otherwise I would be disappointed.
All in all it was a thrilling read and it would make an incredible movie.

This was a unique thriller that I would recommend! The concept of a podcast where people anonymously confess is a great idea for a book and it kept me entertained. The middle of the book seemed to drag on a bit, but overall a great read! Thanks to netgalley for the arc.

The premise of this book was fun. Poe is a witty, fierce female protagonist who runs a true crime podcast where guests can anonymously confess to crimes. This serves as some sort of therapy/penance for her past trauma of witnessing her mother’s murder as a teenager. When a guest calls to confess to her mother’s murder, she knows something is off… because she already found her mother’s killer. And she killed him. This book was fast paced and easy to read. I liked Poe’s narration, but I found her decisions frustrating at times. She was quick to shut out her boyfriend and father, who both want to help, and often chooses to drink too much even when she knows she’s in danger. Regardless, the cat and mouse between Poe and her villain is fun, and there was a good twist I didn’t see coming. I give it 4 stars. Thanks to Netgalley and the author for an advanced digital copy in exchange for an honest review.
