Set during late October, 'Tell Me What You Did' follows Poe Webb who hosts her own true crime podcast, where people can anonymously confess their crimes. However, one guest confesses to something very sinister relating to Poe's family, and she finds herself drawn down a dark path to uncovering his identity while also protecting her and her family's safety from the dangerous guest.
A perfectly spooky novel that I couldn't put down, and the short, suspensful chapters kept me saying: "just one more!"
4.5 stars! (0.5 stars added for Grimm the cat, and Bailey the dog <3)

The first half of this book was actually insane. I reached the halfway mark in a day. The buildup, the dialogue, the plot, the podcast were all beautifully woven together.
Things began to go downhill post 50% mark, when this transformed into a boring, crime drama(?). The story lost all its anxious lustre, the anticipation of what happens next. I felt my interest dropping consistently. Plus it was way too long for its own good.
Overall, I initially had a lot of fun with this, but it turned out to be underwhelming as a whole. Regardless, it has some great moments.

"She gets people to confess their crimes for a living. He knows she's hiding a terrible secret. It's time for the truth to come out…
Poe Webb, host of a popular true crime podcast, invites people to anonymously confess crimes they've committed to her audience....
But when a strange and oddly familiar man appears on her show, Poe is forced to take a second look. Not only because he claims to be her mother's murderer from years ago, but because Poe knows something no one else does. Her mother's murderer is dead. Poe killed him."
This is the best thriller that I have read in a long time! The premise felt very original and I didn't see any of the twists coming. It is well written and well paced. The anxiety and tension leap from the pages. The ending is so satisfying! I highly recommend this title!

I loved the concept of this book and it was easy to like Poe. However I found this could have been about 100 pages less, and the pacing was a little off.
I found it to be an interesting take on murder and the digital age. It also opens the door for the thought of are true crime podcasts really ethical? Helpful or harmful?

Poe Webb is the host of a popular true-crime podcast. She invites people to confess crimes they have committed to her audience anonymously. Poe follows a strict set of rules for confessions, thus making sure she has total control of each interview. However, one day a strange man appears on her show exerting control over Poe this time. He claims to be her mother’s murderer. The only problem is Poe killed her mother’s murderer. So, who is this strange man who wants to control Poe and her show?
This was my first book by Carter Wilson, and it definitely won’t be my last! I really enjoyed Poe’s character. I enjoyed how the story unfolded, jumping between the present time and an interview with Poe’s mother’s claimed killer. It was fast-paced and easy to read. There was also a creepy factor to it that kept me reading to find out what happened next. I highly recommend it to those that enjoys thrillers with a little bit of a spooky feel! I give it 4.5/5 stars.

“Tell Me What You Did” is a fast paced, action packed, edge of your seat thriller that will keep you guessing till the very last page. I couldn’t put this book down. Such a cool concept and a great revenge story. Thriller fans will love this one.

I was 10% in and the book was already creeping me out. If you like suspense, flawed but strong, determined female characters, you will enjoy this.
The story goes back and forth between a short timeline, Halloween and two weeks before and keeps you at the edge of your seat. I appreciate that everything all ties in at the end.

Was a slow start for me but once I got into it I was hooked. Very edgy and gripping story about secrets and the revealing of them. Brave characters were very well developed and I felt the tension til the end. We'll done!! Recommend.

Poe lives in Vermont and hosts a true crime podcast, called Tell Me What You Did. Anonymous callers tell their story. Meanwhile, Poe is coming to terms with her mother’s murder when Poe was just 13. The story lagged a bit midway through the book, but picked up to a satisfying ending. Recommended.

This one was good. It was a different take on a thriller that kept you engaged till the end . I like the premise of the story and the podcast element and Poe was such a good character
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me review this book

This book caught my attention and held it all the way through. The concept of Poe hosting her own true crime podcast and then becoming a guest on her own show was intriguing in itself and I like the way that it started towards the end and worked its way backwards because that kept me engaged to want to find out what led up to that interview. The description used for Hindley's character in the book was very creepy so the point where you could actually imagine what he looked like too which I thought was a nice touch. Although we find out halfway threw the book what Poe did through the interview, the way the book is written you still want to keep reading to see where the story is going to go, who these characters are, can you really trust everyone and how it is going to end. Speaking of endings, I didn't see it going the way it went and it didn't quite have the same steam the rest of the book carried but I still enjoyed the book overall and I thought it was a good thriller/mystery read. This is my first book by Carter Wilson and probably won't be my last.

I enjoyed this new a refreshing storyline something I haven’t read before. It was exciting. I liked the main character Poe she was such touch, strong character and I loved it. I also enjoyed seeing the relationship between her and her dad such a sweet caring touch. I would of liked maybe a bit more of a twist or maybe a bit more of the backstory but I liked it.

This book starts with a bang, and the suspense never lets up!
Poe Webb hosts a true crime podcast called Tell Me What You Did, where guests anonymously confess their crimes. While she enforces strict rules—never guaranteeing protection from law enforcement—she does promise a taste of fame. Though we don’t hear many of these confessions directly, it’s clear the allure of anonymity makes it hard for people to resist revealing their darkest secrets.
Poe’s career choice is deeply personal, shaped by the unsolved murder of her mother on Halloween night when she was just 13. If you think she’s waiting for her mother’s killer to confess on the show, you’d be wrong. Poe believes she already knows who did it. She harbors a dark secret of her own, until one of her guests, Ian, decides it’s time for her to confront it…
The story unfolds through Poe's perspective across two timelines. In one, we follow her initial interview with Ian for the podcast, setting the stage for what’s to come. The other takes us to Halloween night, when Poe and Ian finally meet face-to-face, and Ian forces her to confront her past.
If I had to describe this book in one word, it would be *creepy*. True crime podcasts have long been a part of our culture, but Poe's focus on interviewing people who have evaded justice adds an extra layer of unease. Poe herself is deeply unsettling. She’s methodical, which becomes evident as she outlines the steps she took to hunt down Leo, whom she believes killed her mother. Though she is a murderer, I found myself empathizing with her at times, which led me to a moral dilemma: how is she different from Leo? And how does trauma factor into it? Carter Wilson also explores the aftermath and the trauma victims must learn to live with. Poe has her vices, but so does her father, though his are less obvious. Alice, a character from a previous book, shares her experiences with Poe and offers advice. It’s clear that, even years after her life-altering events, she still bears visible and invisible scars that continue to haunt her.
Among books inspired by the world of podcasts, this one stands out. It’s suspenseful to the point of nail-biting and tackles themes that linger in your mind long after you’ve finished. I highly, highly recommend giving it a read!

Tell me what you did. She’s a confessional podcaster. But she is the one with the biggest confess. This is a pretty good book

Carter Wilson always has such unique and clever stories that are just so addictive. If you love true crime and podcasts, you will love Tell Me What You Did. This would be a brilliant audiobook, with chapters from the podcast through the story.
Poe Webb, named after that Poe, hosts a podcast that is now starting to get noticed. She invites her guests to confess to their crimes on air. It is all pretty forgettable stuff until a man comes on and claims to have killed her own mother years earlier. But how could he, Poe saw the killer, and she knows he is dead….of course, Poe makes some mistakes and silly decisions but it wouldn’t be a great story without that now would it.
This is one scary read. The fear that Poe and her father feel comes off the pages, the fact that they don’t feel same in their own homes. This man is after them, and won’t stop until he gets what he wants. It is very dark and intense and I couldn’t get enough of it. I loved the connection to one of the authors earlier books, Mister Tenders Girl. Loved seeing Alice turn up again. A lovely surprise.
Thanks so much to Poisoned Pen Press for my advanced copy of this book to read in NetGalley. Publishes on January 14th, 2025

My heart is pounding, my brain is jumbled and I can barely speak! Dark, creepy, scary and chilling to the bone! This one was a bit too frightening for this nighttime reader. If you enjoy true crime podcasts with maniacal characters, this story will be very gratifying!

I really liked this one. It's different than anything I've read before and had me hooked from the very beginning. The suspense was insane; I've never held my breath for so long while reading! I loved the point of view and how we got to experience it all as if we WERE Poe.

That was quite the wild ride. 30-year-old Poe Webb is a podcaster where people come on and confess their crimes. Poe has plenty of secrets of her own. When Poe was a child, she saw a man stab her mother. She waited years but exacted vengeance. Now years later someone comes on the podcast saying he is the killer.
Lots of suspense going on. Told in multiple time lines-past, present and future. Great book that keeps you in the edge of your seat.

I was hooked right away!! I loved the podcast format in a lot of the chapters. This one had tons of suspense. I do feel like it could’ve been shorter as certain parts were repetitive and drawn out.
