This is a very intriguing high fantasy paranormal young adult novel! It full of romance, magic, and an intense story line.

Thank you for the arc, unfortunately I did not finish it, I just wasn't the right audience for this book.

If you love fantasy, you will love this series. An excellent teen coming-of-age & coming-into-power series that every teenage girl will love.

My heart is still bleeding. It is still too soon to write a review, yet I want to capture my initial thoughts and feelings before they fade.

And having let the story simmer a bit, I still wouldn't change my initial reaction.

This story…is amazing. Powerful. Heart-wrenching. The characters were leap off the page, dripping with raw emotions and life. I loved the author's voice.

It was so good, until we got to the end. Great twist. But I hated the ending. There is no hint of a sequel, but leaving as the author did, there must be one. And if there is one, I'm not entirely sure I would want to read it. Although, based on what some parts could be interpreted as and hinted at, there could still be hope. But I'd not want to get my hopes up. Ack! But that said, it was well executed.

The story is fast paced, told in first person present tense, and sometimes the scene changes were confusing and jarring. The advanced reader copy I received was a kindle version and it was a mess. No paragraphs and all, so that might have added to some of the confusion at who was speaking and when.

I would definitely recommend it.

Nym is an Elemental, which for a female is unheard of just about. They are all usually male and if a female is born they are usually sentenced to death. Nym sort of stands out though because of her white hair that shines!

Nym has spent her life so far as a slave. She is about to be solf for the fifteenth time. Nym has been hiding since her parents died when she was five. She thinks that her curse of being able to control the elements was the cause of not only her parents deaths but many others over the years.

The new person that has bought Nym wants to use her against the Faelen, to keep them from an oncoming war. Nym is turned over to a trainer that is going to try and teach her how to control her powers. Nym finds herself in the midst of polictics and lots of secrets. Nym knows one thing for sure though, she does not want to be responsible for anyone else's death.

The ending of this story will leave your mouth wide open. I was not prepared for the cliffhanger that we get in this one, so beware!! Mary Weber knows how to make her readers long for more immediately that;s for sure!

Heard a lot about this series. I've had this book sitting around for a while now and finally got to it. However, I wasn't impressed and the book ended up being a DNF.

Nym is a slave girl. She's back up for auction and her 15th owner. But when a man was being horrid to a little girl slave, she lost it. Her elemental power was released and,now they've all seen it. Not only did she kill the man and the innocent girl, but when she woke up she didn't know where she was and who her new owner was.

To make it worse, the owner will have her learn to use and control her powers. Nym will be an asset to her. But Nym is just not the best character. Too short tempered, doesn't listen, and just not a character i could stand to read anymore.
