The illustrations in this book are phenomenal! Also this book tries hard to not be on trend, but it tempts kids to keep reading even if they aren't supposed to (think Don't Push This Button). I can already hear my nieces laughing at the narrator and having so much fun reading this book. They will especially love the little dog in the story! Thank you Netgalley for a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
Such a cute book about how it's NOT FOR YOU! Twist at the end is really fun. I enjoyed the illustrations along with the writing. Definitely for littles ages 3+
An absolutely charming book with exquisite illustrations that will keep young and old readers in stitches, especially with the surprise ending. Loved it!
This is a very cute picture book that will appeal to older kids who may have loved "NEVER Touch a Dinosaur!" and other similar books. Adults will enjoy the book as the fictional author leads the reader through what the book is NOT about, and kids will enjoy pointing out the ninjas, aliens, and monsters that are clearly in the book to the adults they read it with.
Cute and quirky. My five year old daughter loves when books break the fourth wall. She especially loves when they tell her not to open the page or read the book. The illustrations were vivid.
The illustrations are imaginative but the concept has already been done. Not my favorite picture book but I"m sure it would entertain.
This Book Is Not For You by Howard Pearlstein and Susanna Covelli is absolutely adorable!
Covelli's illustrations of the magical happenings behind the author's back are vivid and endearing, as are the dog's reactions to them. As the book progresses, the book gets more congested with the characters that are not supposed to be there, with wonderful results.
The conclusion, with the author's admission of the intended recipient of the book, is heartwarming in both text and illustrations.
This IS definitely the book for all ages to enjoy.
I am delighted to have received an ARC of #ThisBookIsNotForYou from #FamiliusBooks and #NetGalley.
What do kids like? Humor, aliens, cute animals ... You'll find none of these in this book. It's not for kids, so why would any of those things be in it? The author makes this point quite clear. But there's something lurking just out of sight.
I think this book has a good concept, but for some reason, the execution just doesn't come across right. I like the ending, silly as it is, and the illustrations made me smile. This book might have needed more than just one joke, though.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC. All opinions are my own.
This is a super cute children's book. I especially liked the ending. The illustrations are beautiful and super fun without feeling like a neon sign!!
I don't know that the messaging is one that every parent will be behind. This book heavily relies on sarcasm from an adult and sarcasm is sometimes hard for kids to understand and can be perceived as lying.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an e ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This Book Is Not for You is a cute book about all the things that kids like to read about in books, just not in this book. The ending is even cuter.
Thank you NetGalley for this arc.
A wonderfully-illustrated version of its type, but… This is one of the "hey ma, it's talking to me!" books, as the narrator appears front and centre every spread, telling the potential young reader that this is not a book for them. If they want weirdly gross, like a princess picking her snot from her nose and eating it, or if they want ninjas, or hippos doing the hula-hoop, whatever they expect they will not get. And of course, behind the ignorant narrator character is just that. That's actually not too bad, but the lameness of the final punchline is such that – even with such a gloss, sheen and level of detail in the visuals – this is very much a one-and-done read. It's not exactly got a plot, or a twist, or a fun reason to be looked at a second time. A worthwhile entry on the 'to borrow' pile, but no more.
*Squid Choice* Squid wasn't super into this book until we got to the part of who the book WAS for. He enjoyed the ending a lot.
I was a little more entertained than he was with this one and I really appreciated the art style. The ending was super cute and I do feel that most little ones would enjoy this.
"See I know all about children. And books. And kids’ books. And one thing i know is that kids like funny books. Norhing funny here."
"This book is not for you" is a childrens humour book thats filled with contraditions. Who can say no to a book with such an oblivious narrator, and the cutest terrier ever?
The illustrator should get so much credit for this book. The drawings are some of the best I’ve seen in a long time. They have such a varied style throughout the story, and where some wouldn’t be able to connect them all together in a coherent way, Susanna Covelli has been able to do so.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I received an advanced copy of this book courtesy of NetGalley for review purposes. The plot of this book is cute and the illustrations are beautiful. It will be a great read aloud for lower elementary students.
Thank you to NetGalley and Familius for the ARC of This Book is Not For You!
The illustrations in this book are amazing! The story is simple and cute but the illustrations are definitely the highlight of the book. Both my 4 and 7 year old boys enjoyed it.
This Book is Not for You is fun and silly with excellent illustrations! Despite the title, it would be perfect for kids!
A book full of contradictions, a hilarious quick read where the narrator says all sorts of things whilst the opposite is happening in the background.
Full of aliens, monsters, zombies and ninja, it was an instant hit with my 4 and 6 year old children who absolutely loved it. So much so, that they asked me to read it again immediately. The illustrations were really well done and really brought the story to life.
This is a fantastic book I know I’ll be buying when it releases on the 20th August to add to our collection.
Thank you NetGalley and Familius Publishing for the free eARC in return for my honest review.
Are you looking for a read aloud? This book is definitely for you! No matter what the narrator says, this book has it all! Children in class, library storytime, and even just reading at home will be calling out and laughing at the narrator’s utter lack of awareness! The illustrations are so much fun as well and it never hurts to include a pet!
This Book Is Not For You is a super cute and funny children’s book. But while the book is humorous and engaging what really sets it apart is the absolutely stunning artwork by the illustrator Susanna Cavelli. Her beautiful artwork really puts this children’s book above many others I have read. Any kid with sense of humor and vivid imagination will love this book.
**Thanks to the author, illustrator, and publisher for the e-ARC I received via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.**
I loved this! It was such a cute and fun story.
I loved the art and it matched so well with how the book was narrated.
The story was so fun and inclusive. I loved how the author broke the fourth wall.
And most of all i loved the ending! Never saw that coming but it was so funny!
Great work!!
