Description
With dynamic illustrations by Susanna Covelli that hilariously contradict the story, This Book Is Not for You is told hilariously by Howard Pearlstein in the voice of an oblivious narrator who explains why this book is not for you
Are you a kid?
Are you reading this book?
If so, drop it like a hot potato.
Seriously, skipper.
This book is not for you.
Packed with everything a kid could never want—nothing funny, gross, cool, cute, or silly—this picture book is really not for you. There definitely aren’t any monsters or ninjas, and you can forget about aliens. You probably won’t even like this story. But you’re going to read it anyway, aren’t you?
The narrator, a curmudgeonly man with an impressive mustache, is delightfully unaware of the funny, gross, cool, cute, and silly things happening around him and his anxious dog (who is very aware). Whenever the narrator speaks, monsters, aliens, and all the things that a kid would like jump off the page. So if this book is not for you, who is it for? (The answer is absolutely not at the end.)

This Review Is Not For You!
This is a very cute book. The story is quick and easy to read, but the illustrations are stunning and are what will really draw the reader in! I would recommend this for younger kids, but my 9 year old (who thinks he's too old for picure books) still enjoyed it.
Thank you to Netgalley and Familius Books for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review. These thoughts are all my own.
This was delightful to read. I loved that the old man addressed the reader throughout the book. The story itself was funny and ended with an adorable twist that genuinely made me smile.
The absolute nightlight of the book is the illustrations. They are absolutely remarkable. Bright, vibrant, intricate illustrations draw the reader in. Even if the story wasn’t solid (which it was), I would recommend this book based on the illustrations alone.
I’d recommend the story for younger elementary age, but honestly the illustrations are so captivating that all ages will enjoy.
A fun book encouraging the reader to leave, now, since this book is not for you? Then, well, who is it for? That is the surprise ending! A book full of colorful illustrations, whimsical text, and a story that will engage those of us who love doing things even more when we are told we cannot do them! Enjoyable read, well done.
So much funny in this book! If you like books for kids that are silly and over the top, this book is absolutely for you. (With a fun twist at the end for who the book is supposedly for) This will have kids young and old giggling, and exploring the detailed illustrations.
I am thankful to have gotten the eARC for free from Netgalley and Familius Publishing so I can leave my voluntary and honest review.
The title grabbed my attention and I had to read it to find out who the book was for! This is a really cute book with wonderful illustrations.
It’s a contradictory book saying all the things it’s not while displaying exactly the opposite. Young kids will find it hysterical! Especially with the twist ending that shows who the book is actually for.
I highly recommend this for early elementary teachers and librarians to have on hand.
My rating system since GoodReads doesn’t have partial stars and I rarely round up.
⭐️ Hated it
⭐️⭐️ Had a lot of trouble, prose issues, really not my cup of tea (potentially DNF’d or thought about it)
⭐️⭐️⭐️ Meh, it was an ok read but nothing special
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Really enjoyed it! Would recommend to others
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Outstanding! Will circle back and read again
The conceit of this children's book is that the main character, an author, is writing a book that is not for children. He lists the many things that his book will not include, such as ninjas, whimsical animals, and Santa Claus. Of course, as he rattles off each thing you will not find in the book he is writing, the pages are filled with gorgeous watercolor illustrations. The pictures are really the stars of the books and are what young readers will clamor over.
The idea of the book reminded me very much of the classic There's a Monster at the End of This Book. But the ending punchline of this newer book may be even cuter than Grover.
This book is just a plain ole' good time. It's silly and fun! The illustrations are great and I think a child would have a fun time reading it.

This Children's book is fantastic!! The Illustrations are incredible. The story is very cute. My kids really enjoyed all the things this book was not for but the end they were just laughing and laughing! They just keep saying Dogs don't eat books that is so silly. We will be purchasing this book to keep in our book rotation when it is released in August!
Thank you to the publisher FamiliusBooks, Howard Pearlstein & netGalley for Advance Copy Read (ACR) IN EXCHANGE FOR MY HONEST REVIEW🤍
WOW - these illustrations are insanely good! The story is cute, funny and would have my kids engaged throughout. I keep thinking about those illustrations though - so beautiful.
This is a Funny Children's Book I read to my twin boys. I found the pictures in this book so great, and this book is so funny even my teenage daughter read it to my boys when they wanted it read to them again. She enjoyed it too. I really loved the ending. I will be getting this book when it comes out. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.

This book won’t include any monsters, cute animals or silly stuff.
The narrating man is oblivious to what is going on around him with all the silliness, gross, cute, monsters and zombies while his dog is well aware. The twist at the end definitely will make you smile.
This book was absolutely adorable and my kids laughed and enjoyed looking at all the beautiful illustrations!
Easy and quick read for those little ones.

This book will be an excellent book for young readers. I plan to incorporate it into my Storytimes in my role as Childrens Librarian at a public library. The story is adorable and has an excellent ending readers will love. I enjoyed the illustrations so much throughout the book, I was totally wrapped up in the jokes and the art. I can't wait to share this with my patrons.
A book full of contradictions, a hilarious quick read where the narrator says all sorts of things whilst the opposite is happening in the background.
Full of aliens, monsters, zombies and ninja, it was an instant hit with my 4 and 6 year old children who absolutely loved it. So much so, that they asked me to read it again immediately. The illustrations were really well done and really brought the story to life.
This is a fantastic book I know I’ll be buying when it releases on the 20th August to add to our collection.
Thank you NetGalley and Familius Publishing for the free eARC in return for my honest review.
This is a very cute picture book that will appeal to older kids who may have loved "NEVER Touch a Dinosaur!" and other similar books. Adults will enjoy the book as the fictional author leads the reader through what the book is NOT about, and kids will enjoy pointing out the ninjas, aliens, and monsters that are clearly in the book to the adults they read it with.
An absolutely charming book with exquisite illustrations that will keep young and old readers in stitches, especially with the surprise ending. Loved it!
Hilarious for the adults and the kids! Amazing artwork paired with great storytelling makes for a great book, I found myself really taking time to inspect the pictures to see what was happening and the snarky storyteller is sure to win you over. What a great book to enjoy with your family. Thanks NETGALLEY for the ARC!
Eek this book is so much fun!! You know when you tell kids NOT to do something and they do it anyways. Well, this is exactly what this book does. This Book is Not for You tempts the curious to continue to read to find out why it’s not for them. The illustrations are fun and gross at the same time. Perfect for those kids that love aliens and monsters. It even has a bit of alliteration naming off animals doing activities. The ending is perfect and unexpected just like this book. I will most definitely read this to my speech kids and I know it will out a smile on their face just like mine
🧌 This is a peculiar book because it claims it isn’t meant for kids. The narrator insists that it contains nothing of interest to young readers – no monsters, no aliens, no zombies, nothing! Plus, there is no grossness, humor, or anything cool! The book seems to be very boring, right?
👽 But here is the twist! The amazing illustrations disprove that this is a mundane book because each page is bursting with all the things the narrator said would not be there! There are monsters, aliens, and zombies (and more!) on each page! And apparently, the narrator’s little dog is the only one who can see them!
🧟♂️ The illustrations are truly what make this book fantastic!!
👻 At the end of the book the narrator finally tells us who this book is for, and it was a surprising and fun revelation!
🛸 Kids will love this book!
Thank you @Netgalley and @FamiliusBooks for a copy of this book, which I have read and reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
This Book Is Not For You by Howard Pearlstein and Susanna Covelli is absolutely adorable!
Covelli's illustrations of the magical happenings behind the author's back are vivid and endearing, as are the dog's reactions to them. As the book progresses, the book gets more congested with the characters that are not supposed to be there, with wonderful results.
The conclusion, with the author's admission of the intended recipient of the book, is heartwarming in both text and illustrations.
This IS definitely the book for all ages to enjoy.
I am delighted to have received an ARC of #ThisBookIsNotForYou from #FamiliusBooks and #NetGalley.
