A very quick and entertaining read! I absolutely love the illustrations in this story! A type of eye catching that I believe most kids will enjoy!
I am thankful to have gotten the eARC for free from Netgalley and Familius Publishing so I can leave my voluntary and honest review.
The title grabbed my attention and I had to read it to find out who the book was for! This is a really cute book with wonderful illustrations.
It’s a contradictory book saying all the things it’s not while displaying exactly the opposite. Young kids will find it hysterical! Especially with the twist ending that shows who the book is actually for.
I highly recommend this for early elementary teachers and librarians to have on hand.
My rating system since GoodReads doesn’t have partial stars and I rarely round up.
⭐️ Hated it
⭐️⭐️ Had a lot of trouble, prose issues, really not my cup of tea (potentially DNF’d or thought about it)
⭐️⭐️⭐️ Meh, it was an ok read but nothing special
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Really enjoyed it! Would recommend to others
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Outstanding! Will circle back and read again
The conceit of this children's book is that the main character, an author, is writing a book that is not for children. He lists the many things that his book will not include, such as ninjas, whimsical animals, and Santa Claus. Of course, as he rattles off each thing you will not find in the book he is writing, the pages are filled with gorgeous watercolor illustrations. The pictures are really the stars of the books and are what young readers will clamor over.
The idea of the book reminded me very much of the classic There's a Monster at the End of This Book. But the ending punchline of this newer book may be even cuter than Grover.

The title grabbed me on this one and I just had to see what it was all about.
An older man tells us why this book is not for kids and who it is actually for.
"You're probably one of those whippersnappers who likes cute animals doing silly things."
Well I'm certainly not a whippersnapper, but I do love a cute dog and here we have some sort of terrier, Scottish terrier, I think, but I'm not positive.
For everything it says it doesn't have it actually does, which will probably get real whippersnappers chuckling. Overall, I say this would be cute and fun for 5-7 year olds.
The illustrations by Susanna Covelli were very fitting to the story.
This Review Is Not For You!
This is a very cute book. The story is quick and easy to read, but the illustrations are stunning and are what will really draw the reader in! I would recommend this for younger kids, but my 9 year old (who thinks he's too old for picure books) still enjoyed it.
Thank you to Netgalley and Familius Books for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review. These thoughts are all my own.
Great illustrations! This book may not be for you, but a lot of little people will love it! I loved this fun book.
If you want to find out WHO this book is for, read on for the surprise ending. Very fun to read along and see all the words coming to life on the page.
The illustrations are truly captivating and drew my 3 year old right in. There was so much attention to detail it was very impressive.
The font is smaller than I’d like for a children’s book as children read it so bigger bolder letters are better but, like the author said, this book is not for them. They really followed through even with the tiny font.
This book was a hit with my 4 and 6 year old boys. Contrary to the cute title it was indeed just for them.
The illustrations were so fun and detailed. My kids had a blast specifically finding the silly shenanigans the dog was up to on each page.
A fun book encouraging the reader to leave, now, since this book is not for you? Then, well, who is it for? That is the surprise ending! A book full of colorful illustrations, whimsical text, and a story that will engage those of us who love doing things even more when we are told we cannot do them! Enjoyable read, well done.
I think a lot of children will enjoy this book. The wit and humor are very child-like. The illustrations are very bold and detailed.
I appreciate the publisher and NetGalley for giving me an ARC.
This was delightful to read. I loved that the old man addressed the reader throughout the book. The story itself was funny and ended with an adorable twist that genuinely made me smile.
The absolute nightlight of the book is the illustrations. They are absolutely remarkable. Bright, vibrant, intricate illustrations draw the reader in. Even if the story wasn’t solid (which it was), I would recommend this book based on the illustrations alone.
I’d recommend the story for younger elementary age, but honestly the illustrations are so captivating that all ages will enjoy.
